@ak74u2 Because the negative voltage travels through the flashlight body, into the heatsink, through the aixiz module, into the diode's body and case pin.

The diode's case pin is a direct link to the batteries - terminal. By bridging it over to the negative pin, you're supplying the diode with the - voltage.

If you're using a flex drive you'd want a single 18650 battery.

when they say it will destroy your eyes. obviously that will happen if you look into the diode. but does that count if you shining it in the distance? for example at night i shine it down the road if i look at the long beam ill go blind?

@stip27 if the laser is pointed directly at the eye yes you will. The laser light is designed such that it doesn't spread out like a normal light. The basis behind the experiment of shining a laser off a mirror on the moon and the beam returns back to earth and is readable. A journey of half a million miles.

@birdwing98 I just purchased a pair from Phillips Safety for $100 they cover from 190nm-532nm with an optical density of 5+....to me the are a decent looking style and great price they also take care of the high wave length that i work with at work as well 10600nm. look up phillips-safety . com for safety glasses. i am waiting on my parts to come in to start this laser build.
