To unlock Mr. X and Shiva - load the game, at the first screen showing Bomberman Games type in sorrgame4 (it will not show on the screen). If you get the code in correctly you will see "all enabled" and the bottom of the screen and you will hear Axel's shout.

In NUmber 3 if you beat the first levl without diing whit Axel and lose all your lives later you can be shiva. You can also unlock Ro by not kill him when you fight the clown but you have to lose all of your lives to be him

I think it's mostly because these characters were not designed to play through the game. That's why you don't see the trademark flips and throws.

you go to the second level, not the one ontop of buildings but the one in the streets, and you go  up at some point rather than right, it helps if you move across the screen slowly or you'll miss the alternate route

The disco stage is a hidden path. My laptop is on the fritz so I cannot remember EXACTLY where it is, but at one point there is a stairway into a club in the background, then you clear the enemies off and (like the bar in the first level) the path splits to either go forward or up, go up and there it is.

I want to say it is the second level if you go straight on the first level and fight the bartender, but again, my laptop is down and so I can't check.
