  • I'm a girl and I HATE pink and I LOVE blue, it's such a pretty color. When I was a little kid though, I always called red, pink, and purple "girl colors", and yellow, green, and blue "boy colors". I don't think that anymore.

  • im a girl and i hate pink...

  • okay guys first of all there was an experiment done and it was a room painted half blue and half pink and a group of young children boys and girls were experimented and boys went to the blue and girls went to the pink. interesting?

  • An actual reason is because pink is psychologically a more calming and nurturing colour.... Mental hospitals have pink colour schemes in order to help subdue the patients. It's like playing upbeat pop music in McDonald's so that people scarf their food down at a faster rate and buy more. Since pink is calm = not an action driven colour = female. Blue is calming as well, but it's more of a depressant than a subduing, or adrenaline-suppressing colour.

  • My favorite color is blue. Guess I didn't get the memo.

Great video btw. Very interesting information and I hope you did well on this project.

  • Great video! You should look up on youtube "Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood". Its about the effects of consumerism on children (which you did mention in your video). I spent my Friday night a few weeks ago watching it haha! Also another good video to watch is "Killing Us Softly 4 (2010)" is about the effects of advertising on femininity. There is two parts to that video so make sure you watch both!

    They definitely made me think!

  • @itsTiffanny Thanks for the comment Tiffanny! I'll totally check those out this weekend :)

  • Love this video! Hope you got a good grade :)

  • Great freakin' video! So interesting... loved it! By the way, I HAVE owned pink clothing. As for my FAVORITE color? Red - hands down.

  • @HaulBlog Awesome! Thanks for watching!

  • Lol I wear pink

  • @DJRenben Nice :)

  • Awesome video, Michelle :)

This has got me thinking now. haha.

  • @Bamitsashley92 Thanks for watching Ashley!

  • Fantastic! And much more interesting than just writing a paper. I'm sure your professor will appreciate that too, with all the other papers he/she most likely has to read.

  • @lizglagowski I hope so! Thanks for watching!<3

  • You just taught me so much more than high school ever did (;

  • @KatieGrady1997 hahaha yay! No matter where you learn, it's all good, yay learning!

  • This was fascinating! :D

  • @thatonebrandonkid Thanks Brandizzle!

  • I like aqua and teal. But the whole pink and blue thing is pretty dang annoying. Especially when expecting a new baby. They ask do you know the sex? Nope, well then you won't know what clothes to get it! How silly right? Great video at any rate :)

  • @tulleuchen Agreed, silly! Thanks for watching :)

  • This was really great, and I learnt some new stuff as well. Thank you, Michelle!

  • @Camilleypow Thanks for watching Camille! :)

  • Your glasses isn't blue :D

  • It's 'cause of Hitler we associate those colours, doesn't it? Because before that, the colours were reversed.

I for one love my pink skinny jeans, yet I am a perfectly heterosexual male. TAKE THAT GENDER CONSTRUCTS! And fuck you, Hitler. You were a cabbage.

  • @TheGearsKeepTurning ^THE BEST

  • @TheGearsKeepTurning Hitler was cabbage is the best insult I have heard in a long time.

  • ..I'm a girl.. i love blue. generally can't stand pink. Personally I think it's due solely to cultural/ societal and personal preference.

  • @unimaginablyawesome Perfectly understandable :) I think that's generally more common than media makes us believe :)

  • this is interesting :) my cousins were adopted but raised in Ethiopia, they both bought pink bikes and their boys so I think its just how society raised us..

  • @Lizzy8997 Your cousins sound cool! Thanks for watching Lizzy :)

  • Great video!

  • @nicciweasley Thanks Nicci!

  • Very well put together video.

  • @modernoverdrive Thank you!

  • I wanted to be apart of this social experiment!

  • @JARRETTHOLT2 Let's make it happen :)

  • Well put together presentation !!

  • @harobikes3three3 Thanks Mark!

  • Salmon Shirts RULE! But seriously great piece you made here Michelle!

  • @MichaelMidnight Thanks for being a part of it Michael! #TeamSalmon!

  • Great video Michelle, its perfect for anytime I get in a debate on this subject! :D

  • When Adorian started talking about blue I was hoping it would end in a full group number of "I'm blue".

  • @thefrenchifresh I'm blue da ba dee da ba die? :D

    I

  • Great video :)

  • @swimsynch Thanks for watching Klaudia! :)

  • When I was in Kindergarten, pink was my favorite color. Then when I told that to the class there was this little snobish girl who said snottilly, "Pink is a girls color." From then on it kind of ruined it for me.

  • @TheSparrowFable That's so silly! I can related, I always loved the color purple but in middle school I overheard some boys talking about how purple was "a gay color" and I took it literally so I avoided it. In high school I decided screw that! That was dumb! So now my everything is purple haha :)

  • It's all in society is what I think, just know any REAL man has one pink shirt. xD

  • @EveryDayVlogger Yep! That's what I was trying to show with the kids in the "Tough guys wear pink" shirts. I liked that fad :)

  • Sent by... not Adorian or anything... ^_^

  • I was under the impression Hitler was involved in a lot of the socialization we unknowingly go through today

  • @naveregnide He was, back before the Hitler day baby boys were marked with pink, and girls with blue. Hitler would mark gay babies with pink so they were easier to kill. After that, of course, society decided to make the color pink also symbolize woman, because gays and woman aren't as important as streight men. (NOT my opinion, I think everyone is equal.) But yeah, after that the colors switched and now blue is for boys, and pink for girls.

  • @naveregnide Pretty much! I feel so weird Googling anything about him and Nazi things, but it's so powerful how much that time changed the world.

  • because flowers are pink

  • @Fernanda1124 Sure flowers are pink, but here are plenty of yellow, white, red, blue, and orange flowers too :)

I get what you're saying though, we think of flowers as pink and that they're girly, but that flowers are girly is pretty constructed too.

  • individuals know recently as "Two Spirit" who embrace both roles and create a third or even fourth gender. It's all very interesting how narrow our expectations of people can be. Awesome video by the way :)

  • @MartaMation Thanks Marta! You've given me a lot to look into more now :)

  • I strongly believe that gender is almost entirely a social construct. I identify as solely female, thus, I wear tighter jeans, shirts, certain styles that have been assigned to my gender role. I don't remember the woman who said this, but she claimed that we are gender performers, acting in the roles we are assigned/choose. I have also come to believe there are more than two genders. It's absurd to assume that people should only have 2 roles to choose from. Native American societies often have..

  • @MartaMation I like your thinking :)

  • Wow, reaaaaally good video Michelle. Damn.

  • @AdorianDeck Thanks for being a part of it Adorian! :)

  • Super interesting idea you've got here, Michelle :) Great video.

  • @ForgottenFilmmaker Thanks so much for watching!

  • wow that was really cool. would you say that gender neutrality is yellow though? I would also find it interesting to learn about that. imagine getting your first haircut when you are 6!

  • @kmfiske13 Wild! I really enjoying finding images of the way people used to dress their kids, things are so different now. Yellow is great too, if I had more time I would totally go more into that. Thanks for watching Katelynn<3

  • as babies my mom would dress us in any colors but my sisters and i would always wear bracelets so that people would know we were girls

  • @LasrinDync Ooh that's interesting! Cute!

  • did you know that the reason the virgin mary was so often depicted in blue was because blue ink was very expensive and valuable? and so artists of that time wanted to portray her wearing blue clothing because it was the most precious ink! cray! also, this was really well done :)

  • @theLeiler Cray-cray! Doesn't it have to do with the color from the inside of shells? I read something about how royal blue is because only royalty could afford it, that and purple. I never associated it with religious paintings though, thanks! :)

  • i have never even thought about this. that is strange to think about though. i love adorians response the the question about blue. he loves the color #027BC1 :). this was an amazing video Michelle i really enjoyed it

  • @justkiley I absolutely love how you found the hex code haha yes! And thanks<3
