DO NOT PUT THE MIXTURE DIRECTLY INTO THE SPEAKER CONE. YOU COULD BE ELECTROCUTED!! Please remember to put the water-containing fluid in a non conductive container. Simply lining the speaker cone in plastic wrap should suffice. To generate a tone all you need is Audacity. It's a free wave editor program for windows and i believe it supports Mac and even Linux. This program can generate simple pure sine waves at any frequency. I found the best results are in the 10-200 Hz range.
It's nothing more than a 50/50 mixture of cornstarch and water. Flour can work as a substitute for cornstarch though not as well. A larger diameter speaker will produce more visible effects. Sine waves at high power can cause hearing damage because there is more energy being carried by the wave than if the wave were sawtooth or an audio track. However, for this experiment you need not exceed 70 dB, which is below the hearing damage threshold. It may be annoying, but it's safe below 90 db.
Just try with songs that have low frequency sounds(bass guitars, bass drums, etc.)instead of a constant sine wave which will most probably make yours ears really weird(they tend to hurt and feel like there was a sudden change in pressure, kinda like diving too fast) before you get any results.
It's easy to do if you have a sub-woofer, just put the container on the hole/speaker and mess around with some songs(techno and hip hop worked well for me), then stick your finger in while playing the music.
When I did it they didn't cover the whole surface but they did form on the part on top of the speaker.
its a non newtonian liquid it looks like liquid but if you were to poke it very hard or hit it it would feel like a solid, also if you have enough of it you can run on it, but if you stop you will sink.
Hint: Its a dilutant meaning that if you add pressure it will act like a solid and that is what the vibrations are doing, they are adding a pressure (somewhat)
This is a true thing that happens! It's not a chain letter! It's kinda scary at first but it really works!! Paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F1 and your crushe's name will appear on the screen!!! It's so weird!
