The Kzer Za are the lesser of two evils, I mean if I was the leader of a space race like them the choices I'd present to those who I vanquished would be: submit or die, instead of submit or live in peace imprisoned in your homeworld. (They even got a new planet for the Syreen, I mean what kind of villain cares for the people they pwnd?)
Games have since moved onto a higher budget and have become hollywood style; cranked out with dazzling 3D, but this game remains ageless. The Ur-Quan, to this day, still remain the most terrifying villains I have ever experienced in any game. Move over Gannon.
Honestly, the game industry should just return to what it once was, there were more original games then, when the studios were smaller and had less to work with.
The story of the Ur-Quans and the Dnyarri is one of the most terrible and wonderful parts of SC II; it raises serious ethical questions and paints the Kzer-Za as not being evil at all, considering what their race endured. They, at least, are willing to let other races live in peace (albeit slave-shielded).. The Kohr-Ah are the real bad guys here, taking self-preservation to much too far of an extreme.
@HaystackCaldoon Unresolved enslavement issues, lol.....same as a guy cheating on every woman he's ever been with because one chick did him wrong. What happened to games like this....
as civvilizations dcays this,...........is the inevitable consequence, pasion, life,it all decays, rots and dies, from the gradaul inefable decay of fruit or vegetables, upthe ladder of life to cancer and disease in humans, all caused by so called"civilization, whatwas itthe human captain said in the beggening?they once had pasion, they thought thier sheer hatred wouldrip down the slave shield, over time, they forgot what it ment tohate the ur qaun
0:40. That line right there, just by the way the Ur-quan say it, is probably the most badass line in all of the Ur-quan dialogue is not most or all of the dialogue in SC2.
I bet that after the war, all the remaining Ur-Quan (both Kohr-Ah and Kzer-Za) were gathere up and then genetically modified into sub-sentience to serve the New Alliance of Free Stars for all eternity as mindless slaves and as a reminder for all the other traumatized conqueror-species out there...
And why they shouldn't be capable of joining a league in peace after their defeat? Not everyone of them has the same opinion, they just have a dictatorshp where they have to obey.
Also the Dnyaari commited an incredible crime against their spieces - splitting and mutating their people, causing a fratricidal war...
Btw if you come to them after the Kohr-Ah victory, they will be not hostile to you until the attack on Sa-Matra which they are forced to defend the Kohr-Ah owned Sa-Matra, they'll actually strongly advise you to escape the Kohr-Ah and to find a safe place to nurture the human race, they even express their wish that your race will live.
@m1omg It was pretty fucking scary, they'd be imploring you to flee and get are far away as possible. And all the alien species and their places and homeworlds on the starmap would just started disappearing, after the Kohr-Ah just indiscimately commits genocide against all others not being them, shit was tense.
here's an interesting log from Ultronomicon, the UI can fully understand the reason why Ur-Quan started to be paranoid and started to imprison or enslave all other spieces, naturally agressive characters, weakness to mind control, 2500 years of mind slavery...being forced to kill their only friends...here's an interesting log from the Ur-Quan Masters wiki, Ultronomicon:
"1Paul Reiche III, describing the Ur-Quan, stated, "My own take on [them] came from my relationships with people who had experienced significant childhood abuse and how those traumas produced distinctly odd behaviors in adults. [Their] doctrines were the overtly crazy but internally reasonable responses to their treatment by the Dynarri, and the pain they had to endure to win their freedom from slavery."
The Ur-Quan story is really incredibly sad, and the music and voice fits it.
Actually, now that I take a closer look, what the Dynyarri did to the Ur-Quan is not all that dissimilar from what the Japanese did to the Chinese at Unit 731. Or what the Germans did to the Jews at Auschwitz. There are some obvious differences, but the basic backstories are the same.
I can fully understand the reason why Ur-Quan started to be paranoid and started to imprison or enslave all other spieces, naturally agressive characters, weakness to mind control, 2500 years of mind slavery...being forced to kill their only friends...then they had to free themselves through extreme suffering...
Btw, the extremely evil force that the Ur-Quan is feeling is the Dnyarri on board of your vessel, the only sentient member of that diabolical conscience-less race in that time.
God, the Ur-Quan were so traumatised by this cruel heartless race that they felt its presence even if there was just 1 of them on your ship and with its psychic powers jammed by the Taalo shield.
This is the best game ever! They really should remake this game and keep the same kind of voices and soundtrack. It's a masterpiece! I even feel like playing the game again right now.
You have to admit though they did come up with some pretty unique voices. The Ur-Quan Kzer-Za have this odd resonance that I don't know how to duplicate in my sound editors. I especially like the part where he says "We will give you no more warnings." The way that sounds is awesome.
The game was way better without the voices, imo. Left more to imagination, more of the excellent music, and less trying-to-sound-evil/weird newdoings. Insanely good game overall tho :)
Very true, especially if you played the game before hearing the voices. It isn't as good nice with those voices.
Also, the game says that the text we read is only translation from the main computer of the ship. That would mean the voices should either be un-understandable or the voice of a computer (the same for every race)
Yeah, they should have let that voice actor do the Kzer-Za to, in a similar voice but with a different tone.
I think this one strained to make his voice heavy enough. (And is that even neccesary? I think as long as the Kzer's sound IMPERIOUS, they don't neccesarily need to have James Earl Jones voices myself...)
I wonder what happened to the two Ur-Quan races after SC2.
(Like what ACTUALLY happened to them. Not what SC3 came up with.)
Actually I always kind of imagined they either fought to the death or the Chmmr used their own slaveshields on them. I don't think they'd ever ally with anyone...
Actually, With the threat of the Sa-Matra eliminated, the combined forces of the expanded New Alliance of Free Stars defeated the Kzer-Za and the Kohr-Ah.Following the war, all Battle Thralls were freed, and Ur-Quan fleets reduced to subsistence levels. The Kzer-Za represented the now united Ur-Quan in all negotiations. The Ur-Quan were admitted as probationary members of the League of Sentient Races. They participate in this mission to prove their loyalty to the League. (SC3 is right)
Well, they're psychically-gifted translators (albeit, not sentient anymore). So, they may just "transform" our perception of their speech.
We have to take into account that the ship computer does it quite well... either that, or it somehow found fitting to give the Yehat a scottish accent. ^^
