Hey do you guys remember back between late 80s and early 90s, there was another three kingdom game that came out before this one? It way before 吞食天地 I and II. In the game, you could use 張飛, 劉備, or 關羽 to WALK (or sometimes ride a horse) vertically upwards to fight and kill people If anybody knows the name of the game, please let me know, thanks !!! If you have seen or played it, do you know its name?
So let's see, having watched it a couple of times: Shang Fei => Zhang Fei Chen Yen Zhe => Cheng Yuan Zhi Teng Mau => Deng Mao (something like Chong Chau) => Zhang Jiao Wie Siong => Hua Xiong Lie Chui => Li Jue Khe Chi => Guo Si (?) Sung Jen => Sun Jian Li Pu => Lu Bu Thung Chok => Dong Zhuo (something like Tung Jin) => Dong Min (?) Si Yong => Xu Rong (?) Lie Joo => Li Ru
Wow, impressive. I doubt anyone will dispute any one of these.
Where does Sun Jian show up? Is he an enemy? That wouldn't make any sense, but you can't really rule anything out for a manga like this. (And where the hell is Yuan Shao, anyway?)
Awesome, I've seen this before but never played. I notice it uses some oddball spelling of names though; I can guess who the characters are supposed to be in Three Kingdoms, but yow.
Pretty simple, two attack buttons, one for left and one for right, and a "Tactics" (special attack) button. And hordes and hordes of the same bloodthirsty foes.
BTW, Warriors of Fate is the sequel. Or at least it was before Capcom decided to trash the entire plot and make up a story out of whole cloth. Still not sure why they did this, especially such a total botch job. I mean, c'mon, "Akkila-Orkhan??"
I guess WOF's horrible localization was probably a combination of the original devs thinking Americans wouldn't "get" ROTK, and Capcom USA not wanting to pay Shueisha and the artist for the license again
I doubt it was a licensing issue, mainly because the sequel *is* called Tenchi Wo Kurau 2 (and definitely follows up on the events of DW). I'm guessing unwillingness to foist Chinese history on Western audiences again. Ironically, the result was a clean-cut, two-sided simplification of said history...which is pretty much what ROTK was.
Based on the manga Tenchi Wo Kurau, by Hiroshi Motomiya (which I've been able to find *nothing at all* on...can anyone help?).
This was one of Capcom's first really big gambles, not only because of the obscure subject matter, but the *gore*. This has got to be the bloodiest pre-ugly square sticker game ever. Never mind "I'VE KILLED THE GENERAL!" proudly emblazoned on the bottom at the end of each stage.

He's not an enemy, he shows up for like a random attack (some kind of powerup, I think?)

btw, did you know it was the same Hiroshi Motomiya who founded Moto Kikaku (the same guys who created the Strider Hiryu manga)?

No, I did not.
(Didn't know there was a Strider manga either. Interesting...)
hawaiidkw 3 years ago
regarding Strider's manga, that's where the story for the NES version comes from.

Destiny of an Emperor came out first.
And, uh, I think there was at least one Romance of the Three Kingdoms game on the market by the time this thing showed up...
