  • I pressed the wrong button, the 'dislike' button-sorry!!!!

  • Great vid. love it. But can Terry Hall look more dis-interested?? big fan of the Cure as well....who came first? Robert Smith or Terry Hall?

  • God it just brings tears to your eyes, it's so good you can actually feel and hear the raw talent and work that went into making just like alot of the 80's music and there is a marked difference beween then and now, there were different styles then instead of this manufactured crap we have today.

  • I don't think the word genius is too strong a word to describe the person(s) who wrote this song.

  • The absolute BEST!

  • My God! I haven't seen that video in over 25 years! Love it! Thanks!

  • I can't decide who's version I like better. Their both terrific.

  • The better of the two? Are you deaf? Woof! That was Aweful. And I'm a Specials fan....

  • What the hell??!! Fabulous!

  • June Kingstone on drums, bless her !

  • respect mr hall...love this tune..

  • ..great 80 s song...

  • This is the official peoples version of this song...yes yes yeah!

  • Oh, this is most excellent! Loved the Go Gos version but this takes it to the next level. Love the darkness of this one.

  • 1980's - when you could wear white trainers and leathers :-) Miss the 80's.

  • How can the Fun Boy Three possibly sound so tender as to make me tearful? And I'm a fully grown man. Awesome.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this!

  • classic song!

  • the song is about terry and jane's affair. that's how the go go's got the song...

  • Love the Go Go's, but this is SOOOOO much better. His deadpan delivery of these lyrics is PERFECT.

  • I prefer the Go-Go's version, but this is excellent too. In fact, the music and lyrics to 'Our Lips Are Sealed' are so clever and so infectious, I've liked just about every version of it I've ever heard. (Admittedly, there are a couple of exceptions). It's that strong a song.

  • A great song from the 80's - i was so amazing that i hear this song in the german tv series "Tatort" Thanks for this pleasure what make me happen ; ))

  • loving this all over again, such a harsh message is why it still works - NSPCC

  • My God, haven't heard this for years and had forgotten how absolutely magnificent it is. Terry Hall, what a frickin genius. Added to favourites, on repeat!

  • no offense to the GO-GOs but this version was much better than theirs. Very haunting from beginning to end and it just grabs you. So happy that you uploaded this as it was hard to find a decent video or one that the sound had been removed because of stupid copywrite permissions. Thank you very much!

  • that singer inspired by Robert Smith of The Cure.

  • @Gothiczartan nope The famous Hall Hair do predated Smiths

  • The story goes that Terry Hall (from the Specials and Funboy Three) and Jane Wiedlin got all hot and heavy back in the day and he ended up sending her a letter telling her about his sitch…his girlfriend in London. Jane, being creative AND pragmatic, used some lines from the letter to create this song which his band covered a couple of years later.

  • @SenhorBundy - The Go-Go's released it first in 1981 and then Fun Boy Three released it in 1982.

  • good sound

  • a cracking song glad i was made to remember it thank you youtube and thank you everyone

  • Which came first? This or the Go-Gos version?

  • Staples-Hall And Golding WERE-ARE cool as fuck...Im 46 and Love this now as I did then

  • @ricie65 Totally agree!!!!! Do you have the 12'' of this song in particular? I used to play it to all my friends who came over (I kept all my vinyls). The 2 other versions are just awesome, and the same can be said of all FB3's 12'', especially The Telephone Always Rings w the The Swinging Laurels. Btw, Terry plays all piano & pan pipes parts on that last one.

I have to say I'm a huge fan of The Specials & pretty much of everything Terry has done.

  • @ricie65 Fuck yeah!!!

  • Love this track, brings back fond memories

  • Musical BRILLIANCE

  • 1080p! Lol. How can it be when it wasn't recorded in HD?

  • a great version

  • Thank you for uploading this video, I enjoyed it a lot, brought back many memories! And Gary Numan used to get some stick for not smiling on stage......!!!

  • fantastic....abs.joerg krause...fuck stuttgart 21...

  • So, was this basically a spinoff of The Specials? (That guy's the Specials' lead singer, right)?

  • @lurch321 Not really. The Specials were a big band and that's without counting the usual collaborators (Rhoda Dakar, Rico Rodriguez, etc...) & they have reunited in recent years.Terry Hall, lead singer's the most famous cos he's the one who's worked the most during the long split. He originally left with 2 other Specials, Neville & Lynval & formed FunBoy3. Then he got bored & formed The Colourfield, then got bored & formed Terry, Blair & Anoushka, then got bored & went on to do solo albums (cont.)

  • @lurch321 That was during the 80s. Was always lead singer in all bands, wrote some songs for The Specials & wrote the rest of the songs for his solo work & other bands (sometimes co-wrote). But it's not a spinoff, cos Specials is the only ska band in all mentionned. So in 90s, he started solo carreer, did lots of collaborations with lots of people, was also in Vegas, w D. Stewart, w Dub Pistols etc. He's currently in Terry Hall & Mushtaq, and w Specials. Made lots of albums & is very much loved

  • @lurch321 * I meant he wrote all of the songs for his solo work & his other bands though some was co-written. The Specials beeing the exception: he wrote only a few for them.

Btw, he has a real cult following by many ppl, incl. me.

  • LOL! Absolutely brilliant! That '80s look of pure, cold, "I suffer," "I see all," "I know all" apathy staring glassy-eyed through eye make-up. I remember that look so well. To dance with that cool look on your face was just the way to be in the club scene back then. Boy, does that bring back some great memories.

  • Go Terry! I woulda hit on Jane too!

  • I love both versions…but I had such a thing for Fun Boy 3 and Bananarama that I think this version trumps the Go-go's. IMHO

  • Ddint care too much for it when I first heard it, thought who are these folks ripping off the Go Go's, now that I knoe the story, and have heard their other songs, I like better now

  • Christ-a-mighty...Terry Hall was so fried when he made this video.

  • Oh! I didn't know that! I met Belinda and Terry once at the Whiskey a Go Go. The Go Gos had finished their set, and Belinda and Terry were walking past me in the Balcony. I told Belinda I really enjoyed the Go Gos' performance. I offered to help them get gigs in New England, but she said the Go Gos didn't have the money to make the trip. Then she pointed to Terry and said, "He has a band too." I asked what band, and he said, "The Specials."

  • love it!!!

  • No, Fun Boy 3 did it first. One of the guys was friends (actually I think more than friends) with Belinda Carlisle, lead singer of the Go Go's, who did a great version of the song which became a big hit.

  • @Qrayon Actually this song was recorded first by the Go Go's. It was co-written by Jane Wiedlin (guitarist with the Go-Go's) and Terry Hall (lead singer of Fun Boy 3). The Go Go's released it in 1981. Fun Boy 3 released about a year later.

  • I just listened to this song recently but heard about it for years. Dang, it has got to be one of the best covers ever done.

  • @chinocracy Though the Go Go's version came out a year early, this song was written by Terry Hall and Jane Wiedlin - so therefor it is not a cover, only a different version. And the better of the two.

  • @Michaeldair This one's more somber, and its tone better fits the lyrical content. It's not bad, but I do like the cheery pop feel of the original version. I also do like how the portion sung by Jane Wiedlin in the Go-Go's version stands out more.

  • @TsugaruClan And the "pop" feel of that entire Go-Go's album was not thing more than the tarting up of an all Girl Punk band. If you heard their earlier efforts (single releases or live performance) you would find they had a rougher edgier garage sound. THis version, as you rightly point out, fits the content better. And since FB3 didn't need to dressed up for marketing, this version is more likely approaching the intended sentiment.

  • @Michaeldair Are you saying Terry Hall wrote this song and gave the gogos permission to release it before FB3 did. Im not avin a pop it just doesnt make sense.

  • @palermothegoalgod (our lips are sealed)

  • @palermothegoalgod weird like the Prince/Sinead O'Connor thing.
