Starting at 3:55 it is important for all cellists to note here when you see from this great camera angle that Tortelier's thumb behind the neck of the cello is very loose. He is not gripping the cello tightly at all, but letting the weight from his arm do the work. Overusing the thumb is the great danger many cellists face and the pain can be unbearable. Also note how he keeps the thumb behind his second (middle) finger at all times. What a great example that is right there for all to see.

that was wonderful, he's a wonderful teacher but if i were the student, i'd be a bit disappointed that i couldnt play that end. because i'd have really loved the end the most, and would have wanted to play it to tortelier.
