@AdmiralBarackbar Check out his album " The Joys of Losing Weight" if you haven't already.. 21 untitled tracks very similar to this, my favourite album of all times
This is amazing, I like both of beiruts albums, and this one is equally fascinating on two whole different levels, acoustics are beuatiful and the synthesizer is amazing
After my recent revisiting of Beirut, I tried coming back to this song, because I remember hating the "March of the Zapotec/Holland EP," and nothing has really changed. It's a misstep for Condon. The less-than-interesting electronic beat doesn't match well with his vocals.
@Firstriver333 From Wikipedia: "Realpeople is Zach Condon's electronic side-project. De todas formas que sea eso o no, suena bien como titulo y les da un cierto aire bohemio al grupo! Escucha tambien elephant gun es buenisima!
I have studied the lyrics from this song and I firmly believe that the man wanted to play cards but no-one was interested, but this man was desperate for some Poker,so he walked over two miles to where the Prostitutes were. He approached the first one and asked "how much do you charge for Poker?" to which she replied "are you asking me to wear a Strap on?" the confused man answered "are you scared your pants will fall down without the a strap on?" She then called her friend Frenchie over.
Can someone explain to me what realpeople and "my night with the prostitue from Marseille" are? Which one is the title? I know this is by beirut.. right?
@misskirbyyy it's a double album, the first disc is called march of the zapotec and the second disc is called realpeople holland. itunes loves to fuck it up though. If you're familiar with how packaging of double vinyl albums works it's just gonna show that first one on the front, so they incorrectly say this song is on zapotec instead of realpeople

Poseurs. I thought Beirut was one of the real bands out there. A Sunday Smile is so much better than this; it's in a different league. Shame on you, Beirut. Do you hear that weird deep voice starting at about 1:45? I mean, aside from the electronic crap, that insane voice is ridiculous. Is this a joke? This is awful.
@gnarCR it is more like this old techno stuff. That is sort of why Condon split the cd between Beirut and Realpeople. Artists like to experiment this isn't exactly a new direction it is an old one he revisited...
@thejoshcohenshow Thats probably true unfortunately. I was happy for a while, thinking that beirut has alot of fans, too bad people are missing out on this :(
i interpret this song as a young naiive man, maybe zach maybe not, with a prostitute during one lonely night, and this one particular prostitute caught his attention, and he falls in love with her and he's thinking of all these things he sees in her eyes while they're in bed, and he tries to get her to stay longer etc etc
@scarylegodudes I thought this song was from the Realpeople part of the EP. I think most people put this song under Beirut's name incorrectly. Not to be a hipster or anything.

to me, the prostitute is love. And that love is sort of a fantastical and magical idea, but you let yourself believe that it's real. And even when you start to realize that it won't work out after all, you still cling to it, wanting to believe in it. You want to believe so badly that you blindly believe, without requiring any form of validation what so ever. You just wanted this love to be real and to workout, so you believe.
@Rawrz0rz1 Think you kind of have it, but some thats a little over the top really. Just think he's describing the love they were making for the night was almost believable as if it was real, or actually meant something.
