I don't think there's ever been a guy who was as un-phased by taking punches as Tie Domi... it was like the more you hit him, the bigger his smile got. Kinda creepy really...
@Calebltp Rypien is tough no doubt.... but he has FAR from proven himself yet..... hes got MANY more years before he deserves to be mentioned in the same paragraph as Tie.
@seehound619 Granted, Rypien hasn't been around that long but in his short time he has has more highlight reel fights than anyone in the league. Plus, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who could tell you he lost any one of them even though some of the fights were some of the biggest size mismatches you'll ever see. Domi was a legend and Rypien is not yet but Rypien's name does belong somewhere in the same paragraph as Domi if we are talking about smaller tough guys in the NHL.
@Calebltp yeahe... he rarely loses.... and DOmi was known for the same thing.... size mismatches.... Probert..... Twist.....Crowder.....etc etc etc..... how bout Aaron Asham??? hes a tough smaller dude as well.
@seehound619 I'm not a big fan of Asham and at 210lbs he's not that small. On that note, I think a bit too much emphasis is put on the fact that Domi was only 5'10. He played at around 210-215lbs so really he wasn't small at all. I don't know if anyone here ever fought 200+ lb shorter guys but they are some of the toughest guys around. Power comes from weight and force behind the punch especially if it's compacted weight... power doesn't come from height (see Boris Valabik or Hal Gill).
@Calebltp agree to disagree re: Asham......far as height goes.......to me its not so much an issue of punching power... but disadvantage in REACH that makes the shorter guys impressive....nice to have a decent discussion for once... its a refreshing change.
Tie might be listed in some places as 5'10 with skates though but really he isn't. I am 5'10 and I was taller then him, I was in the same eating place with him way back in the late 80's or early 90's. He had huge tree trunk legs though.
@Calebltp I agree bro, you only gotta look at Jordin Tootoo (5'8 - 200) how often does he lose a fight? not very often, and whether you love the guy or hate him you gotta admit he is very fucking good at his job.
good fight, draw

That's the way it should be. Let the players settle it. The game is weak now.

Great fight in my eyes.
Domi landed more better/bigger shots.
Domi early, Vial late.
But Domi landed couple of big lefts also later of the fight.
EDGE T.Domi.
