Great stuff! Watchmen are based on old Charlton Comics characters that D.C. bought and were turned into existing D.C. characters (blue beetle, captain atom etc...) then Alan Moore wrote Watchmen using the original characters as inspiration for his own univere.

And Watchmen is the same, it was published by DC but it's an Elseworld. You cannot put any of its character in the DC Universe, so they cannot be considerer regular DC characters like Superman or Batman

Everywhere I look people seem to overlook the fact that MUGEN simply means 'limiteless' or 'unlimited' in Japanese. 無限.

I don't think the periods stand for anything either, as in Japan people often put periods between letters simply to emphasize it or make it stand out. People names, brands, etc. M.U.G.E.N. . I think the answer of 'we forgot what it means' is just a Japanese way of changing the subject/sounds kewl
