  • God Bless Father Rodriguez for providing us with the Church's official position on this issue. I am a UTEP student, and as such, wish to regretfully inform you that there is a strong pro-gay movement on campus. Our educational institutes are trying to normalize the grave sin of homosexuality by providing pro-gays with the resources to further their message under the guise of "Equal rights" May the Blessed Virgin provide us the graces needed to defeat these immoral groups.

  • Also the beginning part of the catechism regarding homosexuality said "basing itself on sacred scripture...". Do you mind listing ALL of the scriptures the catechism is referring to? Thanks.

  • @TruAgape123+JMJ+ #1 You are asking for scriptural passages, citations. This method of proof-texting is a horrible way to read and understand the Bible. #2 You are asking for ALL the passages. That is not possible. If one understands revelation and the mystery of God, you would know that man can never list ALL of God's teaching on any subject. We first have to provide an explanation on the Bible itself, which is not that simple. We will continue this response consecutively. Ad Iesum per Mariam.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #2 It has to be understood that the Bible is not a dictionary, encyclopedia or other type of "reference book" with a quick passage that can just be looked up to get an answer. Too many people use the Bible this way and it is called "proof texting" which most often results in the Word of God being taken out of context and misused. Rather, the Bible is the very revelation of God to man, it is the living word of God.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #3 Its most perfect expression is therefore found in the very person of Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity and the Incarnate Word of God. A proper reading of the Bible must take this all important reality into account. For example, (1) Jesus Christ gives the full understanding to the Old Testament.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #4(2) Moreover, the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ is the Church and our Lord continues to speak to us and teach us in each century, even today, through His Church. He only has one Church, not many, and that is the same Church He founded - the one, holy, apostolic Catholic Church. Thus, we will only properly understand the Bible if we read it in harmony with the universal and constant teaching of the Church.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #5 (3) It is the Holy Ghost, Third Person of the Trinity, who inspired the Scriptures. He is the ultimate author. Thus, He too is the only valid interpreter and one must pray to Him and be in union with Him in order to understand the Scriptures correctly. (4) To really understand any passage in the Bible, one has to read not just the verse, but the surrounding text, chapter(s), even the entire book and better yet, all 73 books of the Bible.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #6 Numerous other passages shed light on each part of the Scripture. Just like you could never know a human being if you just took quotes they said here and there, but you really have to get to know the whole person to really know them. Husband and wife do not choose to marry because of a few quotes the other said, rather it is because they have a desire to know the person in their entirety.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #7 So it must be with the Bible as well, after all the person we are getting to know is Jesus Christ, God Himself. (5) For many individuals it is not easy to imbibe, breathe and know the entirety of the Bible. Special grace from God is required for this.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #8 The great saints, Fathers of the Church and Doctors of the Church (e.g. St. Augustine, St. Jerome, St. Thomas Aquinas and others) are those who have understood the Bible most completely on account of the grace God has given them. Thus, we must learn from them as well. (6) In conclusion, it is never a matter of me just picking up a Bible and reading this or that verse to get an answer.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #9 Rather, my goal must be to know Jesus Christ (and so I am working hard at that in all areas of my life), I must be praying to the Holy Ghost, and then I read the Bible in harmony with the Catholic Church and under the guidance of the great Fathers, Doctors, and Saints of the Church. That addresses point #1 in the opening sentence. As for point #2, it is not possible to list ALL passages because man does not know the mind of God.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #10 To think any human can make an exhaustive list of ALL God's teaching on any matter is to fail to recognize the infinite and eternal wisdom of God. Because it is the word of God, the Scriptures will always help us penetrate deeper into truths and mysteries of God, but never exhaust them.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #11 All we can do is list some passages in which we clearly recognize that God is teaching us with regards to human sexuality and by extension, that homosexual acts are gravely immoral, disordered, and intrinsically evil. Yet again, we direct all readers to the above paragraph with regards to how the Scriptures must be read and understood, otherwise it is all too easy to misinterpret the sacred word of God.

  • @TruAgape123 Response #12 We will send the list and further readings to your inbox in the form of a pdf file because there is no room for it here,(and we'll send it to anyone interested who contacts us), but we encourage you to read the Bible in its entirety and also the Fathers, Doctors and Saints of the Church in order to find many more passages which manifest God's eternal, immutable, true and loving Law regarding the gift of human sexuality that He has bestowed upon us.

  • If only we had more holy priests like this!

  • Thank you,Fr. Michael Rodriguez, and may God bless you.

  • As a recovering male homosexual, I was deeply moved by the bit concerning lack of a fatherly figure. My father never hurt me or did anything - but that's precisely the point! He was very distant, boring, lame, uninvolved, and now that I think of it my mother was there all the time. Only through converting from lifelong atheism to the Church, and meeting a great older heterosexual man who has been a model for me, have I slowly started to come out of my shell. Bless you, Reverend Father!

  • I pray for you Father, You have given me 1000 gifts, you are my teacher and, I do love you and never, never will forget you and your teachings, your are so wonderful, truly one of a kind.

  • You have many people praying for you, Father. I'm sorry for what is going on in the El Paso Diocese.

  • IT IS SO ENCOURAGING AND REFRESHING TO HEAR SUCH A BRAVE GOD FEARING PRIEST SPEAK SO PLAINLY AND WITH SUCH FORTITUDE AND LOVE TO DEFEND CHRIST AND HIS SACRAMENT OF HOLY MATRIMONY AGAINST AN INCREASINGLY INTOLERANT SOCIETY WHICH SEEMS TO FOLLOW THE MOTTO OF "DO WHATEVER THOU WANTS"! THANK YOU FATHER!MAY GOD AND HIS MOTHER MARY PROTECT AND BLESS YOU ALWAYS .

    AMEN.

  • Thank you so very much for this!!! Thanks be to God for this wonderful priest who is not afraid to defend the truth, because he loves Our Lord and His Church. Latin! Wonderful, we need to hear the official Language of the Church, especially in the traditional Latin Mass. Thank you Fr, Rodriguez, and may God protect you always.

  • Thanks Fr. Rodriguez, for speaking the truth. You are a lighthouse in the fog of our times.

May God bless you, and encourage all shepherds to lead us with love on the way of truth.
