  • Götz von Berlichingen. That is all.

  • I usually watch videos twice just for the sake of picking up on some mysterious weird happening. In most vlogbrothers videos, especially Hank's, there is a bookshelf in the background. I find that I very much enjoy reading the book titles on those books! Sorrry, Hank, but you have been up-staged (or whatever) by your own bookshelf.

  • Wait wait wait, Star Wars books?

  • @shadowofthecandle Go to Wikipedia and type in 'List of Star Wars books'. There are only a couple of them. :P

  • @red16mage Are the books based on the movies? Vice versa?

  • @shadowofthecandle I personally haven't read any of them. Some of them are based off the movies, I think. Plus a BUNCH of Expanded Universe books. I don't know the exact number, but I believe that there are over 300 Star Wars books; it's quite ridiculous. More are being written, too.

  • I'm sorry, please don't hate me, I feel I should say this, and yes I am just saying random things in hope that I wont have to say it, but I fear I'm going to say it in 3... 2.,.. 1.... I've never seen Star Wars, please don't kill me!

  • Hank has two copies of paper towns, what a nice brother.

  • how come hands solo didnt have his hand cut of even though his name refers to only having a solo hand?

  • Notice that obi wan ignores the jedi law of hand karma?

  • This reminds me of when a sycorax cut off David Tennant's hand....

  • THE LINE "LUKE, I AM YOUR FATHER" IS NEVER SAID. IT IS "NO, I AM YOUR FATHER" I FEEL THE NEED TO SHOUT THIS IS AN ALL CAPS RAGE EVEN THOUGH IM NOT RAGING BLEH

  • Luke I am your FATHER

  • @descendant0fdragons actually, the line was "No, I am your father." Big difference.

  • So the reason Luke and Daddy Vader reconnect is because their hands get chopped off and they realize that they're really the same, they both have wirey hands... this is an interesting new perspective on the whole series. Thanks Hank.

  • Seriously makes me wonder if george lucas has issues with masturbation

  • Ah star wars, the franchise I shall never understand, probably because my mother made me see the phantom menace as a kid.

  • One of my friend's middle name is Anakin. True fact.

  • I took a lightsaber to the wrist?

  • @PykohYT I use to hate arrow to the knee jokes, then I took a saber to the wrist.

  • The Star Wars franchise needs more wristguards. Just sayin'

  • i would survive a hand removal as long as i keep my right hand

  • 00:19 I can't believe Hank made such a rookie editing mistake.

  • The jerk in a bar was a she.

  • Hands in Star Wars are kind of like... oranges in The Godfather?

  • As a star wars fan I must say that you are missing two more hands that are cut off in episode 5. If you counted C3PO getting his arm removed in episode 4 you should count the part of episode 5 where C3PO is completely dismembered adding two more hands to your count.

  • I fear for what little sanity this man may have. It's fantastic.

  • @starryhappiness Welcome to Nerdfighteria!

  • So, my brother, my best friend (who also happens to be my brother's girlfriend) had a Star Wars marathon this weekend. And I made them aware of this whole thing, and thus through the movies we kept counting hands... 'Twas fun :)

  • you should really say "spoiler alert" man :(

  • @kevinmac631 Star Wars was released in 1977....if you haven't seen it yet.....you should die

  • @kevinmac631 Star wars has been out for the longest time.It was the first movie I've ever saw.So you have a problem if you haven't seen it.Good then it is coming back in 3d.

  • @ThatPotterTribute7 Ye i'm only 15 so I havn't got around to seeing them i'll definitely watch them in 3d

  • @kevinmac631 Thats sad.Im 13 and I only haven't seen one and thats the third one.

  • @ThatPotterTribute7 That depends on your understanding of the term "sad". I've seen two and enjoyed them. 7/10 i really don't see their huge appeal. but thats just my opinion :)

  • @kevinmac631 Once you see all of them, they tie together and thats where a lot of the appeal is.

  • @Denbow98 O.K. That makes a lot of sense because I always felt it would be something i would enjoy :)

  • on the weird side of youtube again...

  • why is this video uploaded twice?

  • You have two copies of Paper Towns behind you, one of which is only one unidentified book away from The Book Thief. Good book choice (though I highly doubt you would have chose not to have two copies of a book written by your brother on your bookshelf)

  • interesting fact, there were supposed to be 9 star wars movies. but gorge lucas never got to making the final trilogy, a sequel trilogy to the original.

  • @DejoMasters Well, look how long it took him to make the second (or first, however you want to look at it) trilogy. He's still drawing breath, so he's still got a bit of time.

  • Obi-Wan chops off 5 hands and retains both of his during his entire life. Boss.

  • @Benjofresh But he DOES lose his head, so... I guess that makes him about even, huh?

  • wow and people call me a nerd...like seriously people in my school I JUST HAVE GOOD MEMORY AND REMEMBER WHAT THE TEACHER TALKS ABOUT

  • I feel like I'm the only person who actually enjoyed Phantom Menace. :X

  • You missed one in Attack of the clones. Zam Wessel loses a hand from Obi Wan

  • I am much more of an old republic fan.

  • If only I could find a clone of you so I could get married to your awesomeness because I need to marry somebody like you. :3

  • Comment removed

  • The Phantom Menace was the only GOOD movie of the prequel trilogy. Why? IT DIDN'T HAVE HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN.

  • @DisreputableCharles I agree. But also because it had Liam Neeson

  • Your nerdiness is über cute.

  • note to self: if killing someone, dont dehandatate

  • OMg, you think the prequels are movies too!?!?!?!? :LJ Oh, and, Jango Fett gets a hand cut off by Mace Windu. And @thecrazyloonyone has a point, too. So, a total of 16 get cut off in the movies. ;LJ

  • This video is amazing but is missing 2 more severed hands in the movies. C3PO looses both of his hands in the Empire Strikes Back when he sees the Storm Trooper and ends up in pieces. that makes it an even 15 hands.

  • I have the urge to go watch all of the movies to look for these hand severing scenes :P

  • so the moral of this story is: don't chop off someone's hand 'cuz you will loose one if you do

  • i won an argument with my boyfriend using this video :D NERDFIGHTERS!!

  • HAHA I FIGURED OUT WHO JOHN IS!!!!!! EPICNESS ACHEIVED!!!!

  • Right I have something to admit... I haven't seen one star wars film ^^

  • omg i feel sorry for the woman that gets married to you if there is ever one. wow, sorry , had to say that coz i get a nervous break down listening to you.

  • @miarena111 Dude, he's been married for five years, which means he had been married for three by the time he posted this video. Her name is the Katherine, and she is just as weird-awesome as he is. They actually play video games on his gaming channel hankgames, which you should check out if you would like to witness the epicosity of their relationship firsthand.

  • @Throrindor omg LOL, thank you

  • @miarena111 The funny thing is, he's already married. And his wife is just as nerdy as he is. I would bet that she probably helped him with this very video.

  • You say that Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was terrible but you'll still end up seeing it when it come out in 3D in theaters on Feb. 10th...

  • darth vader has really gotta stop havin his hands cut off, eventually theyll stop givin them to him

  • this was uploaded on my birthday.

  • I thought General Grievous had 6 hands. Hmmm.... I must watch the movie again.

  • @iluvpie48 whooops. Four hands. Sorry.

  • jävla kuksugare

  • Just goes 2 show ya.....NEVER mess with the Dark Side......

  • I WILL TIE YOUR HANDS DOWN

  • you look like erik from drake and josh

  • you have too much time on your hands :P lol

  • Sounds like most people who cut off someone's hand later get their own hand cut off, but Obi-Wan never lost a hand even though he cut off many. But he did cut Darth Maul in half and then was later cut in half himself...so if you cut someone in half, that trumps the hands I guess.

  • Hank, this is just too good.

  • My family crest has a severed hand on it. :P

  • @Wafflepal that's so cool, i didn't know people still had those :O :D

  • So So many spoilers

  • @Zero12387 If you haven't seen StarWars by now... You deserve to hear these spoilers.

  • @SpoilerAlert87 i've seen it.

  • Is it me or is this actually a really good idea for a drinking game? Of course you don't need to drink alcohol for hand spotting to be fun but I'm sure it'd help :). I wonder if there are any other films which have such a big tally for loss of limbs.

  • @SirIntegra42 *cough cough* Kill Bill *cough cough*

  • @ghandiwon True, especially with volume 1. I'm not sure it'd work as well as a drinking game though as within about twenty minutes you'd just be completely pissed :).

  • @SirIntegra42 Still, Star Wars has spawned some of the quickest drinking games. We played one planning to go through the original trilogy in one night based on just the mentions of the Force, Light Sabers appearing, and when people are dressed based on good/evil (good-white bad-black) alone. Needless to say we did not get very far.

  • Nice collections of handsssssssss you have there.....WTF BOOM!!!!

  • I had a star wars marathon with a few of my friends this past weekend and we made it a point to count the number of cut off hands. It was quite fun :)

  • pess 7 " lick em all

  • Okay, so Star Wars has a lot of hand off-chopping, but what about other franchises? Peter Pettigrew (in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) cuts his own hand off to bring back Voldemort, and the Doctor (in the very first Doctor Who episode that is all David Tennant as the Doctor, squee!) has his hand cut off by a Sicorax in The Christmas Invasion. So there you have it, two more severed hands! You're welcome.

  • @Thisismyusername1010 WOO! Dr. Who FTW!

  • @Thisismyusername1010

    DT best doctor ever!!! <3

  • @nytephoenix25 Agree! :D

  • Was anyone else really hoping for a Doctor Who Handy/10.5 reference in here? Hank and John need more of the Doctor in their lives.

  • omg lol at 2:06

  • omg lol at 2:07

  • Cocain Isnt Susposed To Be Used For Videos

  • @runescapeHACKtester9 And apparently neither is puncuation in comments...

  • @BenGriffithsReviews ...COUGH noob COUGH :D

  • @runescapeHACKtester9 So I'm new or inexperienced at video games? Ooh, that's a burn.

  • @BenGriffithsReviews I Didnt Say Mista Newb So Stop Wastin My Time :D

  • i like doctor who's hand in the christmas invasion...

  • Press 8 to hear someone speak faster than the sound...should have been a sonic bom there somewhere...I gues...

  • press 0 every half second looks really wrong

  • In Star Wars, a hand getting chopped off equals epic.

In Doctor Who, a hand getting chopped off equals the silliest plot device in the history of the show.

  • I love you Hank!!!!

  • Oh my goodness, is that Polaroid film behind you? Jealous.

  • This is totally random and off topic, but i couldn't help but notice the book "the book theif" over your left shoulder. I just wanted to point out that that book is amazing, and definitely my favorite book of all time (sorry John) but yeah. I couldn't resist pointing that out.

  • No *fewer* than five times. Grammar Hank, please. You tell us it sounds silly when we get these things wrong; you should follow the rules, too.

  • I really like The Phantom Menace, but I think it's only because I watched it a lot when I was little and I have lots of memories of it. It is pretty terrible, however...

  • if you have a son, i will date him.

  • @x2sh0rt4ux he has, but he's only a 1 year old.

  • what's funny is that in all of the star wars movies, there is no blood when their hands are cut off. hrmm... WAIT! maybe they all started off as robots!

  • @thatonenerd22 Light sabers are extremely hot so they cauterize the would.

  • I am currently writing an essay on the hand removal in Beowulf and Irish folklore(among other things). I'm considering using this valuable knowledge Hank has provided in my essay, which is supposed to be the last big one before my bachelor thesis. When thinking about this, I have concluded that 'once a nerdfighter... '... exactly.

  • I appreciate the inclusion of the prequels. I know it might not seem like it, but they're old enough that some of us grew up with those movies.

  • Ever since watching this video I've thought about 1) the apparent hand-for-a-hand rule, and 2) all the hands chopped off by Obi-Wan.

Anybody else bothered by the fact that, while he lops off at least three hands, his remain completely intact? I mean, what makes him so special??

  • @g2theIrishPianist But consider the fact that he is kind of decapitated even though he like evaporates half way through.

  • @SarcasticSploosh Yeah, but he *let* that happen. I don't think Anakin and those jerks in the bars consciously let Obi-Wan lop off their hands.

  • @g2theIrishPianist True, True. Although in a way he is paying back his limb removal debt. Though now that I think about it someone needs to remove a limb from the sand person who ripped off C3PO's arm.

  • @SarcasticSploosh Hmph... I still think he should've lost at least one hand in there somewhere. Though I'm with you about the sand person.

  • @g2theIrishPianist Well either way he became more powerful than Darth could have ever imagined. And thank you there needs o be some kind of carma petition for that sand person's limb removal.

  • thats a lovely set of hands u hae there... shame if something wer to happen to em...

  • @onytay75 ssssssssssssss

  • @onytay75 OMG.

    I am Dave! Yognaut. ;)

  • @onytay75 YESH! YOGSCAST FTW XD

  • @onytay75 sssSSSSsssssSSSSSssssSSSS... BOOOOM!

  • U look like a Simpson's character XD

  • "shortly before being killed completely"

Dooku was partially killed before? How does that work? O-o

  • @wolf92193 I think he means as opposed to just leaving Dooku handless and alive.

  • Hank you missed one! In episode 2, if you recall, Jango fett gets his hand cut of by Mace Windu shortly before dying!!!! (This would also explain why he gets his hand cut off in the next movie)

  • @disneyZorrofan1 well spotted

  • @disneyZorrofan1 You are forgetting he said "there are more in minor battle scenes."

  • @disneyZorrofan1 he did say he was only counting major characters at the start... but that doesn't explain why he counted the wampa (giant snow beast for those who don't know, and those of you don't know, you should!) in empire strikes back but not Jango Fett... hmmn thats... not strange at all

  • @disneyZorrofan1 Does Jango count as a major character, though? I'm not trying to hate on Jango (believe me, my brother's a major fan of the Fetts, I know better than to hate on Jango or Boba), but he's only in the one movie.

  • @g2theIrishPianist Well, personally, I think that if we count that snow monster thingy from the 5th movie without a name, we can certainly include Jango :)

  • @disneyZorrofan1 Good point, very good point.

  • @g2theIrishPianist In the whole story, he's not a major character, but in that one movie he is.

  • @disneyZorrofan1 no his gun is hit out of his hand because when hes on the floor you see *BOTH* hands

  • @disneyZorrofan1 Mace actually cut his blaster, not his hand. I will go back and watch the scene again though.

  • @disneyZorrofan1 as much as i hate to rain on the 111 thumbs for your comment, you're wrong. he doesn't get his hand chopped off by Mace Windu. if you look closely enough, you'll see the lightsaber hits his gun, not his hand. also, when his body hits the floor, he has both his hands attached.

    still, DFTBA.

  • @littlemegamonkey I'm not really basing my evidence on what we can see with the naked eye, but my brother owned an action figure of jango fett from episode 2, and his hand was attached by a magnet so you could cut it off. So, if it's incorrect, the toymaking company made an error. (I was so excited to see your reply because I had no idea I had any thumbs up. I'm one of those people this never happens to :) DFTBA

  • @disneyZorrofan1 oh, I always thought he just looses the blaster

  • i think i need to see these movies now.

  • karma, dude

  • Episode 1 did suck on the whole, the only coolness of that movie was Darth Maul. Can I get a hell yeah?

  • @m00nEater hell yeah XD

  • I'm sure someone has mentioned it, but...

    YOU MISSED ONE!!!

Jango get his right hand cut off before losing his head. Never shoot at Mace Windu.

  • i have a friend who SWEARS there's another severed hand that Hank missed...

  • This guy needs to get laid...

  • what's with hands being chopped of

    must be prop hands

    some only have one hand

    :pcgodwin's child

  • The Doctor lost a hand in episode 1 of season 2 of Doctor Who.

    Does that make it awesome?

    'Cause....I kinda think it does.

  • @iSeaSweeneyTodd I'd like to see a jedi grow their hand back :D

  • @iSeaSweeneyTodd Season 2 of the new series. Don't forget the first 8 Doctors. But I agree, it is awesome. :)

  • @bgphantom3 Yeah that's what I meant. That's what everyone calls it now so I figured, why not?

  • @iSeaSweeneyTodd I'm sorry for being nitpicky I just grew up on the old series. (retroactively though). BUt why not indeed.

  • OMG HANK! Where were you in class yesterday when we had an arguement whether or not Tattooine had 2 or 3 suns!?

  • omg its...its....A SUPER NERD

  • man, i didnt know any hands were cut off during star wars

  • interesting i have a star wars fanatic(my father) and doubt he knows this :) will have to send him a link!

  • any one else realize that the book "beowulf" is upside down? and none others are? besides what looks like to be manga siting side ways... Any one?

  • @vanman988 Psychology my friend, psychology.

  • autocaptions think that DFTBA is "dat dat" ....?

  • prequels are not starwars movies. :(

  • @BeyondBirthday826 um..yes they are..

  • @fearthegeeklord no!!! they aren't nearly as good as episodes IIIV. V, and VI !!!!! sorry. :(

  • @BeyondBirthday826 so? They still count.

  • @fearthegeeklord well.. not in my head. so w.e. :P

  • @BeyondBirthday826 you fail.
