Whoever made this program is a legend! I have been trying to get my MKVs to work for the past 2 hours. Tried activating DIVX, no luck. Tried Tversity and it said my files were corrupted. But this server does the job!
i've been using this for a long time, i even streamed 20 gb Avatar file..., and i could fast forward mkv files
but now for some reason the f-n thing doesnt work, errors show up on almost all mkvs, never mind forwarding or rewinding at all...Connected by glink gigabit switch, on a CAT6 cable
Never mind, I see you have to share the lowest folder that contains the video file specifically. Even with regular broadband 1080p stutters like a mofo though. Anyone else have this problem?
@knevil753 I'm streaming from a relatively new laptop actually. Oddly enough, when I disabled subtitles it doesn't stutter. I guess that tiny extra task somehow puts it over the top.
used lan cable with same IP on ps3 and computer, I can watch pictures avi. files listen to the music and lot more but I cant see mkv. file... I have hangover, avatar3d and 300 (all 1080p BR rip) and I cant see these files on ps3 media server, please help :)
and if you are using wireless g HD media will not stream atall... you would need to run it through with cables or make sure everything is running wireless N.. phat ps3's only have wireless g
So I used to have mkv files play seamlessly on my Xbox360 with both Tversity and PS3 Media Server. Unfortunately, these servers are so cryptic that unless you are a programming wizard, don't bother. I have spent 100+ hours trying to configure these beasts and it still doesn't work very well. Forget this stuff, don't tell me I'm stupid. The technology just isn't there yet. Maybe in 10 years or so, they will finally figure out how to do this technology without all the networking fuckups.
@SoulVotik I totally agree, one day everythin is working flawlessly, the next day for no reason at all (no changes made to the system or the program) it's not working. I can't even begin to tell u how many countless hours this process has taken me, ultimatley even leading me to this page. It's a flawed technology, it might not take 10 years but they shure as hell should have it cleared up by PS4...
@michaelobua I was having a few problems with this on some MKV's I turned of subtitle support in the ps3 video settings and now everything works fine... also make sure you have ffdshow installed
@michaelobua I finally broke down and bought an HDMI tv and hooked it up to my laptop. Everything is great now! No TVersity or PS3 media server ever again!
@SoulVotik Problem for me is i only have 1 laptop, and my workspace where i do my typing and such is too far from my tv for a hdmi to be a viable solution for me =/... On another note, i seem to have set up my network and my media server settings to a perfection now. MKVs 720p works flawlessly! But I really had to go try & error.. I don't think theres a universal solution that will work for all setups.. =/
@michaelobua You have a very valid point. I had forgotten to mention that with this kind of setup, you need to have your laptop next to your TV at all times. To combat this distance problem I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard. I can do all my clicking and typing from the comfort of my couch. You don't end up needing a long HDMI cable.
The other thing is you will find that the media server will find some way to not work for you soon. Don't get frustrated all over again.
okay, a full admittance of newb-ness with PMS right off the bat, but i am having problems with my mkv files on it.... i have been using vuze to stream to my ps3 (which most know won't even play mkv files until after a long re-encoding) until i found this awesomeness. it starts to play them, but then starts to get really jumpy or stop all together, depending on file size. questions: does this have to do more with my bandwidth? or something in settings i can tweak? any help would be great!
@Gmahny2021 i never had to do any tweaking. make sure to install the proper codecs on your pc too. do you have enough ram to stream this stuff? it takes up a lot.
You don't need to download anything PS3 can STREAM and MKV directly as long as it has supported codecs. The program this guys talking about is legit but you don't need it to stream it. I can stream MKVs try it if its not working then its either your routers bandwidth or one of the codecs in your MKV isn't supported
damn I usually use PS3MS to stream movies, but for some reason it wont play my MKV file! i used it and says file is corrupted (which isn't on my computer) someone please help!!
Works for me, but a lot of mt HD content (specially 1080p) lags a lot. Do you have this problem too? Is it because of the PS3 or because I'm streaming from too far away?
@AdiLAfricaNMaN we all have that problem. if you try to fast forward the buffering takes a very long time. we wont have that problem in the near future
This is the best software I found so far. Works great on both my OS X and Win 7 machines. MKV streaming and copying/saving with encoder onto the PS3 itself.
@knevil753 ye I tried it it plays all my stuff pretty well except the 720p movies that were in .mp4 format they were really slow streaming but the mkv,mts2 and avchd ran smooth
thanks man this is the info i have been searching the web for for a long time. i have both a ps3 and xbox360 and when i play mkv without converting to avi the mkv files play like muff garbage. thanks man
any one who makes a bluray(mkv) to vob is an idiot as they are degrading their quality down to crappy dvd quality. what is the whole point then? this shit is useless
Dude, I need help. I got a 4gb movie (mkv file) and when I tried to copy it to my ps33, the file doesnt say how big it is, so it endlessly copies something. It went over 5gb and doesnt stop and I dont know what it is copying. When I went to the info. of the file, next to the size heading, it just had a dash?
Hi i think i found the solution increase the transfe buffer, i did that and it seemed to work, also change audio settings from dbs, hopefully it works for u

@jawbraker15 I have the same problem. I tryed with my notebook and my PC. Both machines have DualCore Processors, but not really the newest ones :P . The Notebook hast Win7 and the PC WinXP. @gozxdesastros dualcore processor should be fine. I agree that you should check your cables. cat5 at the minimum w a decent router. if your mkv file can play on your computer (with the correct codecs) then it should play on your ps3 no problem
@jawbraker15 make sure your computer is not under a lot of processing stress. dloding things in the background, running antivirus software and multiple programs open at startup can be affecting your streaming. run MSCONFIG, click the startup tab and turn some unnecessary things off... you should be fine.

The mkvs are then placed into individual folders and have different options such as language and subtitles. Hope this helps.
I need help with MKV files. I have searched countlessly for an answer to my problem. Ok, I have an MKV file that I can change subtitles with if I use VLC Media Player, and Audio. But I dont have a choice with when I stream it using the PS3 media server. I am using the transcoded folder. I extracted the subtitles, and there is a .idx, and .sub file. I converted the .sub to .srt but still nothing! I would like to view the video with japanese audio and english subs. Please help. Thank you.
Let's assume that people using this program have atleast a dual core computer running xp at the minimum... There should be no lag for 1080p movies at sizes up to 12gb. The buffer might take anywhere from 10sec to a minuite to start. So far I have had no problems running any .mkv file at perfect frame rates. 720p movies are quick on buffer load time and take up less space than 1080p movies. I'm content with 720 and normally dload 1080p movies for recent action flicks.
This programs encodes MKV while it is streaming, you need a 2/4 core cpu and a perfect network connection to watch a 720p/1080p video. It mostly LAGS..
It supports subtitles, thats good. Small file doesn't make problems but big file is not possible..
