  • I feel the beginning of the vid where Seamus Murpy has the young woman reciting the lines is absolutely brilliant. Notice how she just starts reciting the lines as if they meant nothing to her. Until she recites "I cannot go on as I am." Then (Boom!) it hits her. She starts realizing the depth & weight of the words she recited. Eyes look downcast then turn away from the camera as she realizes the profundity of what she just recited. Like a sudden understanding. Very moving. I still get chills.

  • chills...

  • She sounds like Joanna Newson in the beginning of this song.

  • such a beautiful song, but when she turns to the camera at the end, turns my knees to jelly every time.

  • i am very much satisfied, thank you polly

  • This is the best song on the album, without question. It's one of the best songs I've heard in a loooong time.

  • @tbrogan8009 totally agree

  • I always heard the name PJ Harvey and wanted to hear her songs but never had a chance. With discovering new artists I need to listen to a CD a few times to somewhat understand the artist and start to like them. That wasnt the case with PJ.

I heard this song 1 time and it got stuck in my head instantly, I had to play it on repeat for the rest of the evening. Wow!

  • what song is being sampled in the background?

  • @theSOUNDinterpreter "Kassem Miro" by Said El Kurdi.

  • @controlesexism thank you.

  • Let England Shake. PJ Harvey: the prophet.. What will she predict next??

  • So so so so beautiful in everything ! & Superb choice of pictures to go with it ! Thanks !

  • Absolutely incredible. Thank you Polly Jean.

  • Gives me shivers everytime I listen to it...

  • This song is perfect.

  • I love polly and her music but I do miss her sexual side.

  • @super1114 There is something extremely appealing and attractive about her, isn't there. It's quite hard to put a finger on. Obviously her talent and intelligence is a big part of that.

I wonder what went wrong with her and Nick Cave (well, I don't really want to know), most interesting couple ever!

  • really, she's just so much better than virtually every other songwriter in contemporary popular music

    endlessly interesting, thanks Polly

  • thankyou polly

  • My personal opinion is that this album is excellent and it seems to have received much acclaim from the musical press. I only hope that PJ carries on being so creative and continues to evolve, as only truly great artists do.

  • How can ANYONE say this album is crappy? I know and love deeply all the music Polly Jean gave us and it is all such a rare and precious gift. This is a wonderful album. And I just can't stop listening to it.... (except when only Dee Dee's 1234 is what might fill the air!)

  • i guess if you dont like 0;30- 0:50 your listening to the wrong music, cus thats the best bit!

  • @ssslcus82 i thought that part was the best part that crazy indiginous amazingness and when it comes back leaves my chest feeling like it has an icepick driven through it leaving me in breathless awwwee.

  • this album and particularily this collaboration with seamus murphy is the best thing thats happened to me this year. Her lyrics are weighted poetry, the music is unconventional but gets sweeter to the ears each time and the video is a meloncholic yet fizzing image of england.... if this seems pretentious to you then fair enough but i feel sorry for you that you cant feel its beauty.

  • "I live and die through England ... refrain ... It leaves a sadness ... Remedies ... refrain ... Never were within my reach ... I ...

  • this song makes me want drugs ... I long for the cold

  • " I yam what I yam" words of Support, Popeye

  • Oh God how do I hate this pretentious bitch. What's up with her partial mouth paralysis at 0:30? Appalling

  • @montecarlostar

Strange??? One of her other songs seems to be in your favourites on your profile?????

  • @MrLeechy01 I used to love PJ until she released this pretentious, crappy album. It's not that avant garde scares me, believe me IT DOESN'T. I am a big fan of Diamanda Galas, Ron Geesin and Evangelista, so NOTHING can scare me. But at this point PJ has completely lost her direction, she just wants to be weirder and weirder for the sake of being weird. And that is not being an artist, that is being pretentious and arrogant.

  • @montecarlostar

Hi - This album has nothing to do with being avant garde. The songs are fairly conventional, with beautiful melodies and wonderful lyrics. What is so weird about it?

  • @damkring If this was conventional music it would have some airplay. How can someone on their right mind think 0:30 - 0:50 is something conventional? May be conventional for Yoko Ono or Björk. But regardless of that, it is crap.

  • @montecarlostar you are the one who is sounding pretentious and arrogant to me ;-P

  • @montecarlostar this album was not the weirdest music she has done by a long shot. actually more accessible than most. rid of me was a million times more experimental and raw than this. to bring you my love was much weirder than this. so was uh huh her. she does something different on each album. she hasn't gotten any more or less "weird" at all. really I mean, have you seen her performances in the cat-suits from 90s? this is weirder than that? you don't know what you are talking about.

  • @montecarlostar Shut it fuckwit. This women has more talent in her little finger than you or even any of your offspring could hope to muster.

  • Incredible work.

  • there is time to kill, today

  • love this.....love this video so much.....

  • I CNT STOP WATCHING THIS!!! THE FOLK SONG IN THE BACKGROUND IS AMAZING THUMBS UP IF U AGREE!

  • i HAVE BEEN HITTING THE REPLAY BUTTON, ON AND ON

  • LOVE THE GODDESS, LONG LIVE POLLY

  • This is the video I've been waiting for! "England" is absolutely my favorite song on the whole album. Oh man, at around 1:59, I get chills every time.

    Brilliant.

  • Amazing Polly!

  • my goddess 20 years later and she keeps innovating and taking our breaths away. i love you pj harvey xxx

  • I like

  • @Flippaarn i love

  • so well seen / so p j / so .. .great . thank you.. the end of the song is just ...so..

(saw her at Olympia, and was so astonished, and moved as I were in 1995 in my town here in France -(Lyon)

  • my favorite so far

  • love this record so much! but still dont get the videos....... i prefer to see her just playing in front of the camera....or just walking somewhere..... anyway,....just my opinion.

  • That lady at 3:00 can hug me instead of her puppies. :D

  • everyday life scenes have always been better in bringing tears to one's eyes...
