  • The state should not have the power to decide what substances people can or cannot take, it's against our basic rights as a human being and quite frankly I find it insulting. Ann Widdecombe is a fucking retard.

  • Come on Anne, we all know you secretly smoke crack.

  • Why does anne widdecombe think that she can win an argument just by using condescending rhetoric and arrogant mis-informed opinion rather then fact?

  • The choice to use drugs or not use them is strictly an individual choice or decision & people will take drugs whether or not it is legalized. Drug dealers make extraordinary profits and keep strife going in the streets in the act of peddling these illegal goods. The argument for legalization has some merit. However,a society only has lots of people who resort to drugs and alcohol when the society itself does not live up to decent standards...i.e. it is a "warring" society and one "unenlightened"!

  • the guy isn't naive u r.

  • Stupid fat bitch go back to 1950s with your authoritan attitude!

  • did it just get frosty here?

  • lol what a stupid keeping up apperances bitch.

  • if heroin was legal i would not use it

  • wow that woman is in parliament? jesus no wonder there are so many arbitrary and outdated laws

  • this woman is a fuckhead.

This is what is wrong with the world

  • She sounds like a nonsensical chicken clucking when she talks.

  • He didn't destroy her in the slightest. Her points aren't perfect, but neither are his. Personally, I can't stand both of the sides. I hate the ignorant conservatives and I hate the naive hippies. Both of the sides are equally retarded.

  • @Dimak666 I am glad you found a way to feel superior to both sides without actually helping the debate. The truth is not always in the middle.

  • @tonybeir Not always, but in this case it is.

  • @Dimak666 You're a dumbass for thinking the man was a "naive HIPPIE". I can't take you seriously.

  • @tehparol I don't want you to take me seriously. You're not a serious man.

  • anne widdecombe irritates me so much

  • What this bitch doesn't understand is that a healthy portion of the populace will always want to experiment with drugs in order to "see what's out there", and partly because the fucking lame adults of this world have created a fucking shitshow of a world where ownership (of stupid shit) confers rank on people, and it doesn't pay to be smarter, to have better education systems etc... because all that will do is create tension in peoples' minds b/c of the inability to induce positive change.

  • Did you know that Taliban is anti heroin and when we started killing them off the heroin market grew.

People hate it when bring logic to the table^^

  • DO YOU WANT TO LEGALISE HEROIN

DO YOU WANT TO LEGALISE HEROIN

DO YOU WANT TO LEGALISE HEROIN

    YES

  • I lived in Brazil for some time and there taking drugs was and is very dangerous, but it wasn't because of the actual drugs but because of the people that you got involved with. No doubt in my mind that it will be legalized.

  • "Common sense say..." followed by a series of hypotheses of what 'would' happen or 'could' happen, which is always the worst case scenario.

Why does anyone still ask Anne Widdicombe what she thinks?

  • He hits a home run at 7:45

  • So legalising soft drugs would make people swith to hard drugs AND soft drugs? Her logic is impeccable.

Great that this debate is on primetime television.

  • Clearly the old lady doesn't know what she's talking about. She made no sense whatsoever. Everything she said was either illogical or unsupported and/or contradicted by research. The gateway theory has been debunked long ago, quit harping on it already. Frankly, I think she's quite mad. She was so illogical, that I am compelled to suspect that she is on some drug trafficker's pay-roll. The violent trafficker's are the only ones benefiting from prohibition right now. Be wise, legalise!

  • 3:09 - "The state is going to be making available to everybody, their first experience of heroin" - Yes. That's right. Basically we're won't be compounding troubled people problems further by sending them to prison for simply altering their conscienceness in a way that's harmful ONLY to themselves. It's called freedom of choice. Of course, being a Tory, you're against that idea, aren't you Anne?

  • 7:58 - "What you're niaively assuming is: legalise it and all the gangster fade away." - There's nothing niaive about that, Anne! It's exactly what would happen.

Dealers charge heavily for putting their necks on the line. If everybody could legally grow cannabis in their attic, shed or greenhouse, there'd be no easy profit for dealers.

"Complete nonsense" would be to assume that gansters would remain in an industry that they're not profitting from!!

  • 7:08 - "Cannabis Psychosis". Another complete myth. Studies have shown there's a direct corrolation between cannabis users and people who at some point in there life suffered from mental health problems (depression, stress etc). People who bandy this statistic as proof of an adverse effect of the herb are forgetting that it's also a known fact that people with mental health problems are more likely to try cannabis. Hence the origin of the correlation! Mental illness is a CAUSE, NOT an effect!

  • 2:48 - Ann says "We also KNOW that a certain percentage of people go through the gateway from soft to hard drugs". It's so frustrating when a trend of thought becomes accepted as fact such as the "gateway theory"!

I know A LOT of people who regularly use cannabis and have never touched anything stronger (except alcohol, obviously; but that's not a "real drug" is it?). It's in the region of about 50 people. Only ONE has had an addiction problem and he never touched a joint before-hand!!

  • Such ignorant and hypocritical individuals. As the International community has celebrated the war on drugs. The UN needs to consider enforcing the legal use of marijuana a international recognized narcotic; regarding the UN charters and the breach of peace it produces.

  • a drugs debate with Ann Widecombe? How can someone who doesn't understand being a druggie comment on it. It's like asking a mexican to comment on being english, it's ridiculous. Of course people will be tempted to experiment with drugs if they feel miserable and trapped in their life, which means we should'nt be letting these illegal aliens through our doors who are flooding our streets with drugs. The government are doing this to own children this moronic labour government

  • There is no "war on drugs". Alcohol, tobacco, caffeine etc are all legal.

There is, however, a war on personal freedom.

  • That is an extremely perceptive comment my friend.

Thomas Jefferson wrote: "Were the government to prescribe to us our diet & MEDICINE, our bodies would be in the same bondage as our souls are now".

Abraham Lincoln: "A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded".

  • " Abraham Lincoln: "A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded".

Abraham Lincoln: I like nothing beter than to sit on my porch, play my German accordeon and smoke a pipe of my Indian hemp.

  • @tigerone1970 That has no bearing on U.K law.

  • @toweronepower,

Who cares if it has bearing on British law? Mythmaking is the same no matter what or who does it. Do you know the UK has FIVE towns called Hempstead?

There is a hint for you.

  • This video needs more attention.

    Legalize.

If you're a prohibitionist, that means you support the crime and violence created by the black market.

  • Those who support continuing "drug war" prohibition are one of three types:-

    1. Cops & Prison Guards. The cop unions know an end to the WoD would cut the crime rate massively. Unemployed cops on welfare, or hire slick PR for a dirty fight lying to the people?

    2. The drug cartels. Dont think the drug cartels can't fund prohibitionist politicians via 3rd parties.

    3. Those who haven't researched the truth yet, or those suckered by the fear based propaganda & lies of one of the above two groups.

  • "the bar will be removed..." 2 seconds after they talked about the WHO study showing NO correlation between harshness of drug laws and rates of usage. People in support of prohibition are EXTREMELY selective in what they CHOOSE to hear. It's fucking frustrating when there's so much emotion involved in a theme. Debating drug legalisation is very much like discussing politics and religion.

  • the frustration is compounded by the fact that the people in charge are the ones who are for prohibition

  • The prevelence of drug harms is a product of the policy base that exists now. Widicombe suggests Rowles is 'mad' - whereas the madness is maintaining the policy that serves to produce the very harms it sets out to solve. Widicombe needs to learn some simple rules of debate, repeating as she did her assertions and opinions doesnt make them more 'factual'. Fmr UK Drugs Advisor, Julian Critchley's informed view on what is broken is where the drug policy debate needs to head.

  • That guy just utterly destroyed her.

I wonder how long this retarded prohibition is going to last..

  • People are driven to drugs because of politicians like this. Mo is a gateway to hard drugs!

  • How is alcohol not a gateway "drug"? How many drunken fools have been a t a party and said , Hell yeah gimmie a bump of that cocaine it looks fun. IM drunk what the hell.

  • Steve - great! (from Richard Thompson)

  • kevin booths american drug war is a good documentary on this subject. the govt already supplys heroin to ppl hrew pills

  • u can see that documentary free on here

  • Repeal all Drug laws.

  • Look at this lady. Listen to her. Is this what you want for our future? This has been going on since Reagan. Why can't people rise up and put a stop to it? I like to respect people. I try to whenever possible. Sometimes, however, people have to be told their standing is not what they think it ought to be. Just because you're old and wealthy does not mean you're right.

  • Education is the answer. Legalize it and let people enjoy themselves!

  • Legalize drugs! Drug addicts then won´t have to rob people on the streets of your city, rob your cars and prostitute themselfs so they can buy a meth or something!

  • Liked how Steve Rolles stayed cool and responded with solid arguments to the polemic of Mrs. Widdecombe. No question, who won the debate.

  • If there was not a extraordinary hunger for drugs, there would be no problem. The US needs to focus on those who are hungry and NOT on those who supply.

  • This just like Sky News. Very disappointing for Al Jazeera (which should be representing drug producing countries). Maybe it is just the usual absurd taboo about drug legislation that disallows reasoned debate? I don't know but one star from me I'm afraid.

  • This woman believes the Police Propaganda, and refuses to listen to the facts. She also believes, as Tim Leary pointed out long ago, that drugs are far more powerful than they actually are.

  • Legalize it!
