Ric Flair actually recruited Magnum, and helped to convince him to come over from Mid-South wresling to JIm Crockett Promotions back in the 80's.The easier traveling and more money were the big selling points that Flair used when he helped to convince magnum, rock n roll express, and others to come to JCP when he would go into other territories to defend his world title like Bill Watt's territory, which was terrible when it came to traveling on the road back and forth to matches..
I'll always remember the "I Quit" match that Magnum had with Tully Blanchard.Wrestlers like that was a big reason why Jim Crockett Promotions was so popular during that time. They simply had the best stable of wreslers during that period,as Mid-Atlantic wrestling was the best.
Magnum was scheduled to get a run with the NWA belt after Starrcade '86. He would have been a star on par with Sting and Lex Luger into the 90's if he didn't have that accident.
@TBirdSCIL Magnum was going to win the belt. But that Magnum P.I. gimick would of ran it out and Flair would have got the belt back. Only three gimmicks had a long run RIC FLAIR,HULK HOGAN, and the ROAD WARRIORS

just think ...what if david von erich had live...mangum didnt have the care wreck...the matches that would have been...von erich and flair...flair and magnum...oh man we were cheated...you could have even thrown harly race in there for maybe 84 and 85...just close your eyes and let your mind take you there..would have been great
Magnum seems like a really cool guy. It's refreshing to see a wrestler from his era who's not broke or bitter or, worse, dead. He was on pace to be one of the most popular performers of all time. At least he's come out the other end of tragedy with all his marbles, a family and a career. Good for him!
ho w one accident changed wrestling history. terry allen had already been given his map of taking the championship from ric flair. maybe he would've had a long run maybe not.i believe he would ve he had established feuds already with nikita ric flair jimmy garvin wahoo of course all the horsemen so he could have carried it.
Magnum walks. He would appear on TV with Dusty after the accident and did color commentary for a while. He had his right arm, I believe, in a sling for a while. I don't believe he got full use of it back. But he's walking and looks to be doing well.
Thanks for posting. This brings back memories for me. I was in college in North Carolina, all the way from So. Calif. I had never been exposed to NWA Wrestling until I got to college. I use to watch it every Saturday afternoon and Magnum was my favorite. I will never forget the "I quit Match" with Tully Blanchard.
He is the biggest "IF" in wrestling. A great worker who was so over it wasn't even funny, people honestly loved Magnum. He could have held the belt in NWA, WWF or AWA, maybe taking turn in each. Imagine the feuds he could have had with Piper, Hogan, Lawler, the Harts and Kerry Von Erich. A great face, he could have been a great heel too. If he hadn't had that accident, he would be retiring with Ric Flair or running an angle in TNA.
He does have a great outlook on life, God Bless Magnum TA.
:O) That's awesome. Magnum is a total badass as he is the one single wrestler who kept the mullet from the 1980s. Not Ricky Morton, not George South, not anyone but Magnum TA!!!!
Terry use to come into the Hooters on Independece Blvd in Charlotte all the time. The old school wrestlers are some of the kindest, down to earth people you will ever meet.
I find it interesting that Magnum mentioned Randy Orton as a guy he would love to face. That could have been a big feud. MVP when he was US champ said he would have loved to face Magnum.
Magnum was a early version of what Steve Austin would become. The badass good guy who had a edge to him unlike the do-gooder Cena.
Terry is a good guy. I used to work on his Lightning a few years back, and my father actually worked on the car that he wrecked. Havent seen you around in a while Terry, hope you are doing well!
Magnum was one of the greatest talents in his day. As far as his mic work, today's wrestlers should look at promos by guys like him and Arn Anderson to see what an intense promo should be.
what is it that the WWE is waiting for to put this LEGEND on they're precious hall of fame? is long overdue. Magnum U R still the MAN! while we are on it, what about an action figure too?
I have wondered that myself. It is hard to say. With Luger and Windham coming into the territory I am not so sure he would have ever won the NWA title. I am sure the WWF would have made an offer to go up there and Hogan was locked in as champ. It's too bad but he seems like he got on with his life pretty well.
the truth is, Magnum was being groomed 2 become NWA World Champion, he was originally set 2 face Flair @ Starrcade 86 instead of Nikita Koloff, that is, until the accident
Is it me....or was I amongst many wrestling fans that wanted to jump thru the tv set, when Magnum TA got jumped on in the locker room by the Four Horsemen during Magnum's interview? Lol. I also remember Magnum in the Mid-South(Bill Watts) territory as well. Such memories....Terry Allen, one of my favorites back in the day. God Bless!
magnum ta rules we love you and miss you in the ring

I saw Magnum in his last match in 1986 when he wrestled Jimmy Garvin at the "Big Brown Box" in Greenville SC.

He was blamed for driving too fast on a wet road. The cops determined that wasn't true. At least he's alive.
