Being a musician, i hope you all know that none of these chord progressions shouldn't be classified as ripped. There are hundreds of songs that have the same chord progression in the same exact key. It's not a big deal, and as long as the lyrics are different, who cares?

@Dudemanyeahman213 Thats not necessarily true. I mean sure, the verse is Am D G C but the prechorus with the lyric "She said I might not be seeing him soon" contains chords that John just made up. I mean sure they are real chords but Mayer has said in interviews that he didnt traditionally learn most of the chords thats he used, he just put his finger in places that sounded like they fit together. This one of the FEW songs John has that utilizes traditional chord fingerings

Hey i'm a big Mayer fan, way bigger than Radiohead. But seeing as he have played Karma Police and then going into Victoria or the other way around at this concerts, pretty much asures us that got inspired by that. He is a big Radiohead fan too, he covered Kid A, and did it well! I think it's alright he used the same chords, it is very much his own song :)

Very often, the videos will go on for 7 to 8 minutes. I know what I'm talking about. Take into account that i've been playing guitar and piano for a total of 11 years. I'm not stupid.

@philkapune I agree that the musical idea used for the verse could be considered somewhat similar. It's the same rhythm, tempo, key and starts with the same two chords, but in my opinion that doesn't matter as long as everything else is so different.

My point is that it's not plagiarism if you use the same chord progression, and only that, but when you on top of that uses the same melody/riff, it definitely is plagiarism, and even if you use different chords, but the same melody:)

Of course the actual chords vary but the actual structure of the progression is the same. People don't really invent chord progressions, they just experiment with how to play them and change them up a bit.
