You are on a DR350? You didn't buy a KLR 650 did you? If you did, don't. The DR650 is a much better bike, if you want a 650. Lighter, lower center of gravity, more reliable. And IMO looks better.
"this is cool" .. of course it is :D ... for a beginner you should have gone a bit faster ... going that slow in dirt and not knowing how bike will react on cerain bumps, slides, sand, rocks ... could have resulted in crash ... but its really easy to ride when you get into it
Some people don't realize how big a difference is between dirt and street riding. When someone asks my opinion about getting a street bike I have always recommended to learn how to ride a dirt bike first off road because dirt is a lot more forgiving then pavement. And I personally learned to ride a dirt bike first and had several years experience off road before I made the decision to buy a street bike.
Remember when going through stuff like that, you don't have to stand straight up, just get kind of hunched up and get your ass towards the rear of the bike, and do not let off the gas when going through sand or any deep type of terrain.
@luisRRR69 hey man i ride a yfz 450 quad.. i want to get into motorcross though!! i know a quad is much different from a dirbike im 5'8 and weigh 180 pounds would a 250f or a 450f be better for me this would be my first motorcross bike if i get one if u could help me out thanks!!
nice job for your first time. but if your interested in getting on the dirt get a DIRT bike not a dual sport. the gearing will be better and you won't have a ton of extra weight. and try to look up more towards your riders so you see whats coming so you can avoid it instead of a split second before you hit it.
On days that I want to go ride but it's raining i've watched some video's on the net of other people riding and yeah the guys on their 250's and 450's look so cool roosting out of a burm, but that isn't what most of us started out liking about dirt bikes. It was about being out with your buds trail riding and exploring and pushing each other to get up a hill or something like that. Can't wait to do some more trail riding and just having fun like this.

damn everybody quit complaining, obviously its his first time on the dirt, why dont u try giving pointers to help him out instead puting him down. I know dam well that u wernt perfect when u first rode on the dirt. STOP being so rude if you dont like it dont watch it.

OMG u call that trail bike riding??? i could fukin walk faster than that... and no wonder ur shitting urself, LOOK UP and u might be able to see wats goin on!!!
post another video id like to see how youve improved.
i find it harder to look at the ground when i ride if you were to keep looking at the ground and an animal walked out in front of you i guarantee youd hit it. good job
Hey Atlas you should take a look at a BMW R1200GS Adventure. MMMMmmm very sexy bike and it's damned near indestructible. As well its quite inexpensive considering its a BMW. .I have seem them priced at $20,490 and less for an older one. Those are the bikes used in Long Way Round/Long Way Down and Race to Dacar.
It is hard to pick just one prettiest place....BUT I was fortunate enough to see the Nasrid Palace in the Al Hambra AT NIGHT. They are SPECTACULAR at night and since the rest of the Al Hambra is closed, there are no large crowds to deal with....
This is going to make you a better rider in many ways, specially when you ride on the road, I have had so many close calls on the road/track, thanks to my dirt bike ridding experience I've been able to saved it.
Good work. You are on the verge of opening up a whole new, extremely fun world. And you are living in one of the best parts of the country for it. Have fun!
I was really focused on what was in front of me so I had my head tilted down a bit more than I usually do. I'm usually looking up the road while on the Ninja. I will have to come up a fix for that angle when I'm riding off road. I'll keep the Ninja until I leave for South America next year. I'll sell it for gas money.

For what Atlas is doing in terms of highway travel, a KLR is much more comfortable. But you're right, in the dirt a DR650 beats it all day.

It's too big of a bike. I like small and nimble bikes. They are amazing machines, but they're not for me. I'd love to get a F800GS though.

a rejetted carb i can hit about 115 (completely spooled out though)
it can ride comfortably at 70-80 though.
i have an assumption those mods from the previous owner didnt change much, so even stock would be powerful enough
