i said hello to them at a ulu gig by...i can't remember, maybe shamen in their jesus loves amerika phase?...and doing my best not to blurt out something embarrassing from being next to bilinda.
Awesome. Remember listening to this on my Sony Pebble years ago on a flight to NYC. My boy, aged just 10, asked for a listen cos he could hear it sat next to me. Blew his mind, he was converted there and then. Spread the word people, although the yoof of today just don't, or won't. get it. Innit.
@caspapin funny guy. Why is it wrong that a christian find peace and/or enjoy MBV as well? You know what: don't bring your ignorant hate anywhere near this band, you're corrupting it.
Just to correct previous posts, there is no difference between the glider ep 12" and the loveless versions of "soon" except the very beginning (the quiet, tinny drum machine sound) overlaps the end of those wierd sounds at the end of "what you want" on the loveless version. The glider version starts clean. Length/loops/bars etc. are all the identical. The glider 7" version is shorter, just two verses (2nd and 4th) and shorter length loop at the end. (Sorry, I went nuts a few years back.)
If there's a way to end it on a great note, it's "Soon". I thought the singer was beautiful and sexy in an innocent way. The way she moves her hips was just an expression, not as a sexy pose. A great way to end My Bloody Valentine's career. Bravo!
bwahaha... you're whole point was to be condescending. now you're trying to take the high road? Go beat up a disabled person or something. I'm sure that would make a person like you feel better. jerk.
When this album came out I never heard of it. Was listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the rest of the MTV force fed "alternative" music. I later discovered this album around 97 or so and it's still one of my favorites. I don't own one album from any of the "Seattle" bands anymore.
@mlammin: The whole album LOVELESS - on which "Soon" is the last track - is a timeless masterpiece - in the 90s i used to get up up with the CD in the morning and even listened to it while showering, maybe i should try again !
Record company + very expensive album to produce that took too long to make + record company head stressing because he's losing money + the album flops commercially + "Quick we gotta sign a band that will make us money!" = Oasis.
Every Oasis fan in the world needs to thank MBV because without them, Oasis would never have been signed.
Ha ha! I hate to ruin a good story, but it's not quite that simple. First of all, there's a lot of dispute over how much MBV and Creation actually spent on the album. Also, both Kevin and Alan McGee aren't too quick dispel any reported myths/lies. Furthermore, Creation made a deal with Sony before Oasis came along (or became famous).
Colm actually played on only 3 tracks of the album (he had been through a lot of personal problems then), and Kevin later confirmed it was indeed a drum machine in this song.
I hear ya. I haven't grown tired of Loveless after more than 15 yrs of heavy rotation. I seriously can listen to this every single day and just keep coming back for more. It's just magical. Truly one of the greatest albums ever.
There is a gorillaz song that did that to me. "Tomorrow comes today" kinda has the whole put you under it's spell sound to it as well, especially when it's late at night and you are tired.
Too good, just too good. MBV are utterly untouchable.

They begin differently and the Glider version has a coda in the end with kind of a different song.

Too jazzy for what? I heard "Soon" described as "the vaguest piece of music I've every heard" but never as "jazzy".
gamelanplan 3 years ago
OK, in my defence, when I wrote that I was:
(a) a bit drunk.
(b) fresh from watching the final episode of UK sitcom 'The Inbetweeners', which utilises that phrase in a particularly humorous way.
