Great Track! Its on the new Balance 020 DJ Mix album by Deetron. Most of the 2 hour 2CD Compilation is bang up to date Progressevie House/Techno/Electro music and this track closes the first CD. I couldn't believe it when I found out this track is over 25 years old!! Can't say I remember Savage Progress although I did like The Thompson Twins. I missed out on them at the time!!
Being from Chicago I have loved house music since 85. We aren't claiming that SP is from Chicago. DJs like Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles, Ron Trent, Lil Louis, DJ Rush and many other Chicago DJs played this song in the clubs of Chicago in the mid/late 80's. Many new DJs that spin classics will STILL play it now. DJs "pull" certain songs from different genres and "deem" them as house because of their sound. It's actually a compliment. This is one of my favorite songs. House is about obscurity.
They came indeed from UK and not from USA and they gained some success in the clubs of Belgium or Germany for instance. But now the essential is to remaster the original tapes and reissue all the material from the band. When ? Can the artists let us know who owns the rights and why they don't assume this reissue ? I suppose that they are still proud of their work ...
Thanks for posting - I haven't heard the 12" mix before. The single/album version is also awesome. There is a TV performance video out there - hopefully somebody can upload it sometime...
Savage Progress were from Britain (as opposed to Chicago, IL). Check out their best known song 'My Soul Unwraps Tonight'.
