That's not Artemus. That's the Hag in disguise. Given Garrett removed the power of the Hag to use Lauryl, she used Artemus. Plus, Artemus leaves early.
Myeah, Thief: The Dark Project starts with a briefing where Garrett says "I was a kid, no parents, no home. Running messages and picking pockets to keep my ribs from meeting my spine". So that pretty much proves he had to steal.
Well, I'd figure that since Garrett was living on the streets and picking pockets at that time already, he'd be familiar with the blackmarket already and how the underground things worked, so I'm supposing it could've been possible that he knew, or maybe he just went with Artemus, went through his training and decided "You know what? This isn't for me" and left to become a thief
Well, guess he was doing the things for the Keepers, and on the other hand helping Garrett on his quest to figure out what Gamall was up to. And he supposedly stayed because it was better than living on the streets, why else would he have gone with Artemus in the first place? Or maybe he already knew he wanted to become a master thief, and stayed because he thought the training he was given would come in handy. Guess we'll never know for sure
You're welcome ^^ Artemus is a Keeper, and he's the one keeping in touch with Garrett, since he doesn't listen to anyone else. And when other Keepers are against Garrett, Artemus is usually trying to defend him. And if you mean why Garrett left the Keepers, he just never liked their ways, so he left and became a master thief with the training they had given him.
Artemus is a badass too. He taught Garrett to be a Keeper after all.
