I'm 52, explain me and my several friends of my age. I think the difference here is that Youtube is the preserve of the predominantly younger atheist. People of my age grew up without computers, and while some of us have embraced technology, many haven't, and bear in mind that lifestyles as a whole have changed, children these days are far less active outdoors, and less imaginative in play, having as they do, ready made toys at their disposal.
I'm assuming you are an atheist, in that case you and your friends give me hope for the older generation, also geographical location may have an influence on the atheists I meet in my area, most are younger. Are you implying that a less active outdoor childhood and technology promotes atheism? If so, great. The less we lie to ourselves with religion the better. I used to feel the same way about my Christian friends: that they had no choice about God as they had been "brainwashed" by their parents. Most of them stray from the faith at some point and eventually return to it as intelligent, thinking adults with the worldly experience to make their own decision. They come back to God because they can no longer deny His existance, as did I.
There were MANY times in my life when it would have been helpful to me to have known that there was a loving Father in Heaven to turn to for comfort and guidance. I am raising my children in the church (non-denominational Christian). When they grow up, they may no longer believe, but they know that they have that option and a firm foundation regarding how to live and how to treat others.

Thanks for pointing out the difference between Chritians and Muslims - can't imagine how I missed it in all my years of study. While I feel bad for having slept through that particular Theology lecture,I don't see why that slight omission in any way detracts from the point that indoctrination at birth may not always work out the way we want it to. Just felt it would be more productive to allow young minds to develop on their own.

Older atheists are generally less known because of their aversion to technology, although I find those that can find their way round the electric interweb are more likely to be atheists.
Quiet religion is fine, it's the fundamentalists (Including Christians.) who we need to keep an eye on.

I'm 52, explain me and my several friends of my age. I think the difference here is that Youtube is the preserve of the predominantly younger atheist. People of my age grew up without computers, and while some of us have embraced technology, many haven't, and bear in mind that lifestyles as a whole have changed, children these days are far less active outdoors, and less imaginative in play, having as they do, ready made toys at their disposal.

Christianity teaches the same as Islam, that the other faith is false, and as for Jihad, the Christian equivalent was, and is, crusade. The conquistadors practiced the same, convert or kill policy, and there are fundamentalist Christians who rant and call for the death of non-believers and Muslims.

Excesses are found in all of them.
Atheism for instance is taught by governments, schools and media as absolute truth in many countries, like China, North Korea, Cuba, etc., just to name nice counterexamples
Furthermore, generally speaking, atheist/agnostic parents are not automatically exempt from indoctrinating their children into their worldview because they view it as good, like many theists do as well for their kids.

I recently went to see Daniel Dennett talking on this virus among other things. He spoke of a possible inoculation in the form of religious education, saying that although parents had the right to teach their children whatever creed they wanted, they also had the responsibility to teach them all the alternatives. Afterall uninformed consent isn't worth a damn.
I think that when people have a full understanding of all the world religions, they feel pretty ridiculous choosing one.

I used to feel the same way about my Christian friends: that they had no choice about God as they had been "brainwashed" by their parents. Most of them stray from the faith at some point and eventually return to it as intelligent, thinking adults with the worldly experience to make their own decision. They come back to God because they can no longer deny His existance, as did I.

There were MANY times in my life when it would have been helpful to me to have known that there was a loving Father in Heaven to turn to for comfort and guidance. I am raising my children in the church (non-denominational Christian). When they grow up, they may no longer believe, but they know that they have that option and a firm foundation regarding how to live and how to treat others.

This video is very bitter. Having grown up in an extremely conservative chrstian and of course right wing family, I take offense to my childhood being summed up as being a "robotic replica".
I have managed to grow out of it and make my own decisions. There is much more depth to a lot of these people than are given credit in this video.

I believe that religious indoctrination of children is child abuse.
It breaks my heart to hear that children are being sent to religious schools.
Parents think that this is the best thing for their child.
They know no better, for they have been under the same effects.
Ive seen many, many people mentally damaged by religion.
Just watch the News and you will see the most extreme cases.
There are also subtle cases, yet, damaging effects of the young mind just the same.

I am an atheist but I am not a homosexual. Can you give me some proof/evidence of a hell, afterlife, heaven, god, christ, virgin mary, noah's flood, devil or any of the things that people often associate with religion. Why do christians express such hate for homosexuals? I know what the bible states but if we went 100% by the bible than Palin's daughter would have to be stoned to death. Do you believe in it blindly or do you justify it to yourself and how?

Christianity is the religion of an occupying force. An archaic relic of a foreign culture, kept alive and spread over the earth only by force of bloody conquest and institutional, traditional indoctrination. A religion of fear and shame, glorified suffering and death, that conveniently serves the ruling class to pacify its subjects and sanctify its actions.

Looks like we can agree that the vast majority of the earths people just wanna live in peace and focus on the little things in life - food, clothing, shelter, and the latest on Mylie Cyrus. It truly is a slice of humanity that causes all the touble. Early indoctrination sets a default status of sorts where the individual is tasked with throwing off early memories to forge some kind of indepenent personal ethic. Far better I figure to leave the slate clean and let folks think for themselves, no?

well it's a nice thought but keeping human nature in mind, if you were to let children go free and "navigate" their own lives without direction or some sort of code or creed to go by what would our world come to? i was raised in a Christian home and i went to church every sunday and alas, i'm not a brainwashed zombie. you should also keep in mind that christianity has a very wide spectrum of denominations ( so does islam, several different sects with different interpretations of the koran )

Thanks for pointing out the difference between Chritians and Muslims - can't imagine how I missed it in all my years of study. While I feel bad for having slept through that particular Theology lecture,I don't see why that slight omission in any way detracts from the point that indoctrination at birth may not always work out the way we want it to. Just felt it would be more productive to allow young minds to develop on their own.

Religion could be considered as abuse of children, instilling delusion and using indoctrination from a young age to entice belief throughout life only to pass this on to the next generation.
