  • when looking at the light meter scale what do the larger tick marks indicate?

  • I don't have that camera anymore, But on that screen, I can almost be sure it represents one stop, meaning that it shows that one click down on your aperture will bring it (the meter level) down a notch.

  • @jonvideo Thank you!

  • can you do a video explaining whats a shutter speed and loads of other things ?

  • My suggestion is to get the D90 made easy available at elite video dot com . We made these two 90 minute dvds that take you through all the features and functions that you need to know. Well worth getting, This section came from that video so you can imagine how much it covers.

  • Great video. I have just recently purchased a D90. I have a lot to learn I think..!

Thanks for taking the time to do these. Been reading some of the comments below...wow, lots of agro out their amongst those keyboard warriors...

    Chill people!

  • Maraming salamat po.

  • hmmm why in my screen, the exposure (+) and (-) are in opposite place ?

  • hi there! love all your videos--just a quick question, and sorry if it has already been answered, but how do you get the shooting menu to come up on the back of the camera? :) I just cannot figure it out! ;p

  • @bobbijojo1 I hope your being facetious because it's the first thing he says and the easiest operation on the whole camera but whatever...with a functioning battery and the D90 switched to ON just press the INFO button which is located at the bottom right corner of the 3" LCD screen...

  • terrific video...............a great way to learn the basic settings for this camera, and what the readings are set up............great way to learn...........thanks

  • Great information! I use to get your mailer many years ago. I'm sorry you have to put up with all the yahoos out there. Keep up the good work! I just bought the D90 to expand my video business and wanted to learn what I could before it arrives.

Thanks again for taking the time to produce these videos!

  • Thanks so much, Enjoy the D90, it is a fun camera. It's nice to run into someone from the days of catalogs too!- John

  • very informative... thank you for sharing.

  • Hey there! Is there a way to turn on highlight clipping display on a D90? Thanks

  • how can i connet my cam to the tv? ive used the cables that it came with bt nothing

  • @wingkayko haha.. maybe he's just a kid trying to explore his dslr, yeah you asked jon first befire commenting on this video.. you should learn your lesson from jon.. haha

  • Dear wingkayko, Did you know that you can go into the menu of the d90 and change the look and colors of the screen? One of the cool tips you get in our DVDs. You could have asked me how instead of commenting like that, but I understand not everyone is brought up the same way.

  • which combination would produce better looking pictures nikon d90 with 15-55 mm VR nikkor lens or nikon d3100 with nikkor VR 15-105mm lens

  • how come my screen is different???

  • You can set up the D90 to display with the color screen of your choice in the menus

  • I must have missed what you are refering to, Care to be more specific?

  • question, that shooting screen? is there an option to have it on at all times? i just got switched to a nikon d90 from a canon rebel xs and i'm used to showing me on the screen all the info on it, aperture, shutter speed, iso, wb, etc

  • okays thanks for all the info ^_^

  • I would like to ask a question maybe is out of the subject if I may,

I want to learn how to mix videos and tunes together like you did at the first of this video. like making a short movie or something?

I really want to learn how to do it and you will be appreciated if you teach me how.

    Nice video by the way,,

    thanks :)

  • Glad you liked the video. The way to edit videos and music is with a video edit program. We use Sony Vegas, But the version called Sony Vegas home studio is just about as good and under $100 on ebay. You can watch some tips on youtube or get videos on Sony vegas or home studio version. You can download a free version of either program from download dot com

  • i really want this camera but i need your help.. as u see my channel is about makeup && ect and i wanted to get a dslr camera cause the great pictures it gives&then i found out the nikon d90 has hd recording but the only thin stopping me from getting it is that i heard that when the camera is sitting on a tripod&ur sittin back recording and then bring objects close up to the lense it wil not auto focus.. please help me i need to know this before i buy it && not even bestbuy cld tel me!

  • @MisssLadyRose The movie setting unfortunately does not auto focus so items coming closer to the lens may pose a challenge.

  • Jonvideo.... you have now become my best friend. After a long time away from photography I've just been given a D90 as a birthday present. I am so glad I found you. What on earth happened since I took photos on my trusty old Olympus OM-1?!!

Thanks for this video. I'm going to watch all the others now!

  • how to do you set

    the matrix to 3D.

mines say Auto? idk is that wrong.

i was a canon owner, but now D90

so i dont really know about Nikon.

  • is the d90 camera and battery made from Japan?

  • one of the crappy things about the d/7/8/90 series is that the exposure meter is not on the status lcd. you have to look through the viewfinder, or press info...

  • yes thoose are still included

  • what kind of screen protector is that in front of the lcd screen @ 0:08? thanks in advanced.

  • It's one that came with the camera from Nikon. I don't know if they include them on versions they sell this year. They did at the time because it was easy to smudget that screen, They still may include them, I don't know.

  • Yes they do, I got it with the D90 kit

  • Hi there, I think that Nikon people added this plastic over the screen, because the casing of the camera doesn't have rims made of metal (like the more expensive models) and if they made the protective rims out of plastic they would easily crack. That's my opinion I might be wrong. Ether way thank you for this useful video best regards

  • helpful thank you very much!

  • 好有用....謝謝!!!!

  • @normanhui translation = this was very useful, thank you!

  • Nice job.

  • Great infos, thanks for posting.

  • Nice video, very helpful

  • you guys, why dont you get some guns and go into a concrete room and shoot it out. You all sound like a bunch of frustrated uncreative people.

  • Yes, We are very frustrated & I will say, we do take the cake for being uncreative, that is why do these videos. Hoping someday to get to that zone of inspiration and originality. About the shooting, We tried that one time but the bullets ricochet around the room, our spouses get mad at the marks in the wall,. We switched to jousting and martial arts with bow staffs and such, now everyone is happier and it helps bring out our budding creativity. It's lots of fun too, you should try it.

  • hey, Im perfectly ok with your videos and instruction. Its some of the other comments in the thread that are a bit ridiculous.

  • hahaha, Great way to shut the fool up.

  • @jonvideo ... i really don't get this comment...

  • It's very usefull, thanks for this video.

  • I'm not understanding what "rtg" means, can you help me, I guess I am dumb. - John

  • well D5000 has the tilt-screen that's it O_o D90 is much more superior. CLS for the win!

  • nice to see someone on this page who's not only made an intelligent comment but who's also correct

  • I had 2 D5000 and they both stopped working. Nokia knows the problem. I bought a D90 and it works good.

rtg84729 you are crazy saying what you say. Just compare the 2 cameras coz u didnt do it yet. READ before u write.

  • WELL IF YOU HAD A BRAIN YOU WOULD TAKE IT TO NIKON, NOT NOKIA. I THINK YOU ARE A DUMB IDIOT. OH SO WHAT I TAKE MY CANON CAMERA TO LG????? READ BEFORE YOU thats right YOU write.

  • you really need to be a socially loser in order to spend time with all these settings for a simple shooting...

  • It's an art...

    you'd never understand.

  • i think ur just jealous. why dont u think before u write a comment cuse i think it could really help u eh.

  • No seriously - i thought about buying it but then when the best buy guy showed me all these feature I said I will be bored of it in a week. I am another kind of a loser. I spent $1000 for an upgraded Glock 19 instead of a camera.. Now I am bored of it ....

  • Well, only you can make it difficult to understand. The camera world can be confusing but understand the basic three elements and you should be fine.

If you can dish out the extra money - I highly highly recommend the D90 over the D5000.

    Both take 720P video.

  • those three are shutter speed, flash type, and ...... ahhh i tried what are they

  • the main three are - shutter speed, aperture and iso (i.e. sensitivity)

  • u tried eh, dont give up

  • lol yea i just like a casio exlim and still kno how to take better pics with adjusting the diff modes with shutter speed and iso

  • yah

  • What the hell are you talking about, are you an idiot. The D90 has 4.5frames p/s, 3inch 920,000 dot screen, better build quality, the ability to use AF, AF-I, AF-D and AF-S lenses, instead of just af-s lenses and it has more function buttons. The D90 is so much more superior, you would have to be a mentally handicapped not to know that it blows the crummy cheap d5000 out of the water....

  • sounds like someone could only afford the d5000 :P

Notice how you always say... I think

well... I KNOW that you are stupid.

  • well i think ur the stupid 1 cuse if u had half a brain i could afford a d90. think next time elvis. think.

  • i decided to buy the d5000 but now since they have to call it back, meaning that there is no stock, i dont know what to do. i called the nikon service her in hk and they said i will hv to wait ill mid-aug before its out again. yet im going on a trip soon and am therefore wondering if i should buy this instead. but the thing is, it seems to be hard for a beginner to use?

  • I like the D90 better you can use older AF lens with auto focus, the D90 has build in AF motor... It seems also better built (a little more rugged) and it has a larger feel then the D5000.

  • Comment removed

  • yah

  • I´m gonna buy a Nikon D90. Is that a good choice?? :)

  • I like the Nikon d5000 for the info screen and the movie mode

  • Yes. If you want to use every lens possible, or like the video mode, it is a great camera. The next buying option would be the D300, but that is a bit pricey, and it is considered a semi-pro camera, so no auto modes are available on it.

  • he sounds like Dave Mustaine :D

  • wheres the aperture set up?

  • canon50D or nikonD90?

    nikonD500 or nikonD90?

  • I prefer Nikon for their ergonomic design on their houses. The D5000 feels to small for me, so the D90 is a safe win

  • d90 all the way!

  • I like the nikon d5000

  • Hmmm... I thought that voice was familiar. Bob Nagy.... you go, guy! You might even be able to teach a slowpoke like me.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH...

  • I don't understand what the shutter speed is showing. Does 5o mean 1/50 of a second??? Please could someone tell me the answer to this.

  • Hi, you can change it moving the primary dial, the one close to you, on the upper right corner, with the viewfinder facing to you...

  • Yes, but what speed are the numbers actually showing? 5o means what???

  • yes, it is as you say 50 = 1/50

  • That is correct. Shutter speed 50 means 1/50th of a second.

  • i just bought my new D90 with 18-105 objective. Thanks for the video.

  • Very Helpful...How do you change that Fstop number if its in Manual?

  • sweet porn intro music man

  • lol :D

  • HAHAHA

  • HAHA

  • @bradtwo LOL, FXXKING SPOT ON BRAD !!!! hahaha
