  • Awesome !!! Eu conheço pouco da Sérvia, talvez seja por isso que o início eu identifiquei mais com Arábia. Influência do Aladin? kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • I'm pretty sure that Tchaikovsky would be a rocker in our times

  • This march is about dichotomy of despair and hope that triumphs in joy in life despite whatever adversities; there is no madness in it. The madness comes from those who habitually or culturally misinterpret Russian character. Great orchestra!

  • Great conducing !

  • I love that this is an amature band and that these people are playing just for the love of music. It's great! Does anyone know where i could find this piece for the piano?

  • this is real Music !

  • Man, your conducting is awesome! The conductors are always the best thing to watch in an orchestra

  • I think his is very sweet., it's not so... so...perfect but its moving, I can listen the love of music.

That's really REALLY nice, I really like it. Of course its not my favourite, but I do like it

Yes, it's really sweet using non-music majors :3

  • quien vota que no le gusta, debería escucharla de nuevo :D

  • There are some tuning issues in this, common...

  • <3333

  • shock_06@live.com.mx

  • Intonation??? ....

  • I simply love this song. It's my favourite song to play on my viola. c:

  • I find this video hard to masturbate to.

  • @flourisherX That's because you shouldn't masturbate to this.

  • the conductor looks like he's on fast forward lol

oh and what is all this about whether or not its a song. i dont know if your getting picky about the line between a sing and music, but this is both.

  • Would they not be able to pull this off without the dude waving the stick ??

  • If it's not a song, than what is it? I like this music, because I play it in the Melrose Symphony Orchestra. It's my favorite piece. :D

  • Its not a Slave March. We are not Slaves for God sake. We are Slavs!

    Slav = ancient people

    Slave = slave. xD

  • @3SRBIJACCCC

    It's in French, bre

  • @fever388 Looks like i failed,but i almost looked smart. lol XD bre... :D

  • With this piece I can easily imagine a colossal monument being built for an emperor or some other important figure in ancient times

  • muito bom

    fantastico !!!!

  • esta muy bueno

  • @adolfojose12 And what if I decide to add my own lyrics to the music? Then it becomes a song.

  • This is a very good *SONG*. Song nazi's I call them.

  • @Xcelerate2

And yet your English grammar has no mistakes. It's very simple, if it has singing, it is a song. If it does not have singing, it isn't.

  • ESTA OBRA SE LA DEDICO A CATA, LA NIÑA MAS LINDA DEL MUNDO :)

  • Excellent rendition.... I guess its passion that creates skills

  • that's so bad!.. is a good opus!! it's sacrileggio!

  • Brb, making mix of that melody on 2:35

  • 52 ppl r communist bieber supporters

  • Bravo bravo bravo!!!! Du bon travail ! longue vie à ces non professionnelles

  • Speeding up... Speeding up... Lol :P Great for non-majors.

  • Buena interpretación, creo que es una de las mejores obras de Tchaikovsky, excelente obra.

  • I'm in 10th grade and my band teacher handed this to me because I wanted something more challenging, and I am currently working on this piece. I play trumpet.

  • magnifici

  • wish i could find a recording of this in c minor so i could play along for my orchestra!

  • Maybe it's where the microphones are positioned, but the strings sound out of tune. Actually the more I listen it just sounds very flat. Must be the recording

  • Im sorry but those trombones sounded horrible

  • Awesome!

  • It's decent except for the string section, OUCH!

  • My ancestors was this soldiers who fight against turkish, in the boarders of old austro-hungary and bosnia (turkish), thank you tchaikovsky, I'm proud of my ancestors and my serbo-slavic blood.

  • People are complaining so much about this. Can't you read annotations? Or do you have it off? :O

  • Pretty, pretty pretty goood.

  • Music is for everyone, not just the Yo-Yo Ma's of the world. Stop bashing.

  • @Raphael2573 oh..oh.... please do not fight for music that belongs to every one...Hvae a good time....jzpatelut....

  • maravilhoso, amo música clássica;

  • They play better than me, way better! Well done to the students involved.

  • it isnt play very well, not Tchaikovsky`s falte

  • what can i say

i just click at finger up (like)

  • I thought the original was WAY slower... Probably a little faster than "Grave"

  • Go Green!

  • how come this got almost 160,000 views?! this is a very very bad performance, the orchestra constantly goes off and out of tune

  • So much energy !!! Tchaikovski is rock and roll !!! 8:23 !!!

  • Sorry, RnR IS Tchaikovski !!!

  • i luv this song now. i'm in luv wiff it!!!!! sooooo good. my skools gonna play dis school @ our next concert!

  • Can you write plain English?

  • We played this at in our high school band. We didnt have strings, just winds. It was pretty cool.

  • @HannahLiz2010 same here :D I was the only trumpet player who could play this piece to its full potential xP What instrument did u play?

  • @yulakape I played the bassoon in this version. I had all the epic low bass solos!! XD

  • @HannahLiz2010 Thats awesome!! I wish we had a bassoon player for this piece :)

  • Original title Slavic march was "The Russian-Serbian march" (composed of parts of the Russian and Serbian songs). Tchaikovsky make this work after the war, Serbia and Turkey in which they participated and Russian volunteers (Glory to them!). The commander of the Serbian army at the Battle of Adrovac (Serbia) was a Chernyayev (Lion of Tashkent), then was killed Nikola Raevsky (alias Vronsky, Anna Karenina)

  • Never look at the brass, in only encourages them. Yeah, now I get what Strauss meant by that...

  • oh, I just wish I could play in an orchestra like this one. Unfortunately, at my high school the orchestra program is weak and us advanced students have been lumped with all the beginners. I've been playing for almost 8 years, yet I'm stuck playing music with names like "Enchanted Village", while my heart longs for music like Tchaikovsky's.

  • were playing this peice too, not the arranged version, the ORIGINAL. I'm in middle school 7th grade :) flutee baby! hahah we an arts school, top in the us:D

  • browneyedlovexo: i played this song my junior year in high school. it's my favorite piece i have ever played.

  • My high school band is playing this. I absolutely love this piece.

  • my orchestra is playing this song too... but were in 7th grade--- then again, it is a simplified version =D

  • @cjsuljic my onsemble is playing this i'm in 6th

  • 3:24 lol facial expresion.

  • My school orchestra is playing this.

  • Hey, even if you're not music majors, you sounded excellent!!

  • Quelle puissance !!!

  • for future reference for other students:

SC All-State 11-12 violin audition excerpt: starts around 1:30, ends around 2:20.

As best I can figure out, that's where it is.

This is the excerpt for the Jan 9 2010 audition date; inclement weather jan 16.

  • my lifelong dream is to direct this piece b4 i die 1 day, powerful song

  • Amazing, the criticisms are uncalled for. They are a completely volunteer orchestra. I agree there are intonation problems, but what do you expect. They enjoy playing together. They aren't professional but casual players. Give them a break! They had fun! Ligten up! If you don't like it, then don't listen!

  • we are playing this song in band.. and i have to do a project on the composer so i've been listening to it alot (: its really fun to play also!

  • you have much to learn, grasshopper

  • One, I think it is your best interest to learn how to spell. Other than that, all I can say is LEARN HOW TO READ! Not music majors. And comparing your highs chool.. Yet another bad move.

  • Een drumband klinkt nog beter

  • my God this sounds terrible, looks like an orchestra that has never rehearsed

  • or just one whose members didn't study their parts well enough, considering its comprised of non-music majors

  • Our marching band is doing this for our 2009 field show!

  • My Dad is gonna cry remenbering this peace of art.. amazing!!

  • very very goood!!

  • Some of the string sections sounds like if they wrong notes . Mostly flute , and string family sound bright . Wrong notes and brass , everywhere .

  • unparalleled expertise and skill, I can equate it to the best conductors in the world thanks to Internet by providing moments of great development cultuaral like this

  • The Undercover S.K.A. version of the song is better

  • It's not a song.

  • I notice that people who don't know the difference between a piece and song will usually call pieces with great melodies, "songs," as though its worthy of lyric to their taste, and I actually think its a complement. Because I know many songs these days without great melodies, and its rare to see such genius, a great melody writer. Tchaikovsky is one of the best at that, if not the best.

  • @Kuntipac What do you mean?

  • @acw02 there are no words being sung, the Marche Slav is a piece not a song.

  • @Kuntipac Ahhh, now I know the difference. thanx ;)

  • Watch how the hair of the dirigent goes with the music lol, I think that's actually what the musicians are looking at to keep the rythm...

  • Country band ???

  • well too bad

  • i played the quartet version of this song...it was pretty cool to play...=)

  • i love playing this song with my flute but im not as advanced as they are... tho bohoo :(

  • bonita cancion de Tchaikovsky..

  • já postei aqui, mas tenho que postar de novo:

i get shivers down my spine EVERY TIME I HEAR THIS SHIT!! and seeing matthies conducting just adds to the sensation... his expression is phenomenal

  • I love this song so much, but I can constantly hear someone playing sharp the whole time.

  • For non-majors, this really is pretty great. Congrats to these students, it takes a lot of discipline to participate in an ensemble of this caliber in addition to other course work. Excellent job!

  • I like the conductor's feel for the music!

  • hulax un tito para todos ...

creo q thedarknezx es una ignorante

me fascina esta musica toco en una orquesta y ya la he tocado

para la gente q no sabe de musica creo q no debe opinar

  • The best! Tchaikovsky composed and orchestrated what was first known as the "Serbo-Russian March" (later to be known as "Marche Slave") in only five days! Is composed of parts, themes from the two serbian folk songs and themes from the Russian anthem "God save the tsar"

  • great

  • love it

  • No apology necessary at the start of this piece! Played with such enthusiasm and zest. Great to hear!

  • buena musica para una peli de suspenso x)

  • i playin this song with my orchestra atm except its in a different key

  • Maetro cuidadoso apesar de estar em ambiente ao vivo cordenou a orquestra com destreza parabens!!

  • i love how this piece is so depressing

  • What?

  • very nice conducting

  • A superb perfermance! I never thought I would watch this to the end, but they made this old, thrice familiar warhorse sound like it was a new composition!

  • yeah, it's a gas

  • when was this? I go to MSU, there is no campus orchestra...

  • OAISHAIOHSAOIHSAOHI amei o maestro!

    very cool!

  • My badd.

I'm just suffering from Itchy Mangina.

I've rubbed a liberal amount of Clotrimazole cream on the region.

    Sowwy.

    Have a good day.

  • OK.

    WhatEVER.

I hope that, with yer knowledge, you are not working at Border's bookstore for barely above min wage, or at the Library for min wage. I hope you are pulling $80 like I do without knowing arcane worthlessness.

    Cheery-Oh.

    Fruit Loops.

    Koko Puffs.

    Good Day.

  • I wish I wasn't such a sweaty guy.

I envy a man who can basically perform an aerobic workout wearing a turtleneck sweater and NOT break a sweat.

If I was doing his yob, I'd be wearing a button-down shirt, with all the buttons unbuttoned. With sleeves rolled up. And a fan blowing on me full blast. That is why I don't dress up EVER.

  • Those unknowledgeable in the close Latin form -- DumbAsses All.

  • You know theres a russian joke regarding coffee and "Sheet"

  • cool! We are playing this in my high school band, top band of course! Oakton will probably play better than this college orchaestra

  • It's David Matthies. Just read the description: the conductor uploaded the video.

  • actually its sheet. im russian, i know.

  • This is what happens when strings play in flat keys!

  • i thought it was slav actually. We're playing this in orchestra and that's what it says on our music. This is an amazing song, and that's a pretty good orchestra seeing that they're not music majors. The original sounds way better than the one we're playing though, since we're a 9th and 10th grade orchestra

  • i love this song we played this in my all county this year!!! along with new world symphony and some other song but i forgot ..but it was really good lol and this SONG IS SO AMAZING :P

  • just a little constructive criticism.

First off, all of them being non-music majors, they sound very good!

Second. I'm very impressed with the winds, very tight and not too overbearing on the strings.

The only real problem is the intonation of the strings, they are fluctuating pitch at times, all in all the whole orchestra sounds great!

  • Were is the Piano?!?!?!?!!

  • thats pretty good considering its non music majors.

  • Felicidades Director!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • i suppose that you're a conductor and know exactly what you're talking about, that's why you left that comment right?

  • You don't know how hard it is to conduct...

  • This is not any Slave March!

It is Russo-Serbian March composed in the honor of Russo-Serbian battles for liberation from Ottoman occupation in XIX century!

  • the score/arrangement i got of it says "march slav", as in the slavic people?

don't know if "slave" was a mistranslation or not O.O

  • the piece is written to honor the russian and serbian struggle against the turks, and its original name was serbo russian march, but Tchaikovsky decided to go with march slave upon finishing the piece.

  • "Marche Slave" is French for "Slavic March". Tchaikovsky couldn't have cared less about what the word 'slave' meant in English when he chose the name.

  • you play this very well, we are playing the same song in our youth orchestra, it is a lot of fun because I play clarinet and this song actually has a pretty good part for us

  • dosent it sound a bit like the 1812 Overture at 4:45 ?

  • It uses the same theme...God Save The Czar

  • YES IT DOES! It was also written by the same composer.

  • Yeah we're playing this song and our conductor told us it was using that theme xD

  • que boniiiiiiiiiiiiito.... es mi favorita, Marcha Eslava, tiene de todoo... XD
