The Minecraft forums actually had a contest held that challenged users to make the Kinect work within minecraft. It apparently wasn't too difficult to reprogram it since all the Kinect really is is a repackaged webcam with motion sensing (gee, just like the PS Eye Toy...).

People hacking it is encouraging because there's still a lot that can be done with it beyond the casual shit that MS has been churning out for it. Wonder how long it'll be before the Move has something similar done to it.

people can play minecraft however they want to, it's highly versatile, and all the haax do is make it even more so. In a single player game, sometimes you just want to make a 100 foot tall Statue of David, and sometimes you want to kill 20 creepers with your fist. If you add to the code a bit to do it, so be it.

The great thing about Minecraft is that it doesn't corner you into one style of play. It's a game that simply requires you explore your imagination and creativity. If that means hacking (with a kinect or not) to bring your ideas to fruition then more power to you! I dont feel that the Mc community should be elitist about it. At least with no internet you know what to expect, but with limited internet, it gets your hopes up just to kick you right in the nuts after working for 2 seconds. Really! It'll get you to the page you want then freeze up, and then you have to Ctrl:Alt:Delete

eehhhh QTEs on boss battles do sound like a terrible idea in Silent Hill.

HOWEVER, I wanted to mention that being able to run away from the other enemies is nothing new- that's pretty much how I mostly played the SH series, as much as I love it, because I am a wuss. But running away from the monsters totally keeps you in the atmosphere! It's creepy and awesome!

QTEs? ...not so much, probably. I guess I should wait and see how it works. Glad to see so much interest in Downpour, though.

I think minecraft hacks are apropriate when making things like cool scupltures just for show and not for getting ahead in the game. Sure working hard to get all the materials can be cool but sometimes just making the sculpture right away is fun too.

Having said that, hax in a game like this isn't a big deal.

It's sort of like those "tool assisted Street Fighter combo" videos.

I think you should play minecraft however you want, just because they're "cheating" doesn't mean that they didn't put some work into it. it's still creative. I very much agree with your thoughts on Silent Hill, and QTEs seem like they'll destroy the mood entirely.

I haven't played Minecraft, but so far it seems that it's pretty apparent when someone uses a hack as opposed to actually using effort to create. Since their lack of in game effort shows, it doesn't feel like they're "getting away with anything."

Hacks in general are cheating when they do the main point of the game for you. Minecraft is about creating you're own little world, even if thats just a little mine and a house, or a recreation of the flippin planet. Or just blowing gigantic holes into the ground. Besides, if you play Multiplayer, you have infinite supplies anyways, so hacking just makes you extra lazy.

Resident Evil 4 had a ton of quicktime events and it's on of the best titles in the series. The knife fight against Krauser was pretty difficult actually, but you can annihilate some bosses when you can use your equipment.

Quicktime events = awesome.

As for "Hacking" in minecraft. A good portion of those awsome creation were created by people using hack programs, such as auto clickers or flying. I personally used them alot, and feel that in the free-form style of minecraft, it adds alot to the game. I couldn't imagine creating some of these creation without it, unless you literally had a team of like 50 people. It would take forever.

I you consider the creation process as part of the final product, then yes, don't use the kinnect. but if you consider the final build to be the final product, why not use tools?

Minecraft hacks sound fine to me. The whole game is about creatively using the environment to build things, and using the Kinect to do it is an added layer of creativity.

Minecraft's hacks or cheats are the only cheats I fully approve across any game.

Inventory editors simply give access to big creativity by skipping the BS.

I've never used one but still like to build big buildings and stuff. Even though it would take several hours to dig/mine/chop the material.

Saying that it is cheating is kind of ridiculous. It is just another form of Minecraft art. It would be like saying that photography is cheating as opposed to painting. Minecraft hacks have been around for a long time, and many of the major servers have used them to establish some initial infrastructure for instance. Also, why should you be the one to judge what is the proper way to do Minecraft art?

Yeah.... Quick Time events, really never belong in Video game's. its a cop-out in the same fashen as CG (or not ) cutscenes. Its been shown time and time again that there are better (more interactive) way's to successfully tell a story.

minecraft was modded from the begging, making it super easy to "Hack". It's pretty obvious when someone used mods to build something, and most of the satisfaction from playing minecraft comes from building your own creations. Mods don't burn your minecraft castle down or degrade your experience, and can provide useful / fun texture packs or scenarios. Mods are neato in my book!
