@gelistheway123 hahahha, that was way funnier than it should have been. Definitely did a weird, PAH! sound in this quiet house. I'd be fucked had I been drinking milk.
@RicoPLoredo Yeah... Its a common chord structure is all... A lot of songs have the same chords. You can tell the ones which are blatant rip offs and the ones that just have the same chords.
@SuperMegabar Actually, I think Rico was referring to the fact that Dashboard Confessional covered this song and brought it further into the mainstream music fanbase. For a while, Dashboard fans were coming to Weezer's Jamie videos and saying that Weezer stole DC's song when that's simply not true.
This song was originally released in 1994 on DGC Rarities, Vol 1. The song was recorded in the Spring of 1993 by Loyola Marymount University student Dale Johnson for his final project in music engineering. He got a B+. Rivers was surprised by the grade and told him, "But it's gonna be on a CD, man....!"
Considering that this is a Blue Album song it would have been more appropriate to use a picture with Matt in it instead of Scott. Not that it really makes a difference.
@lazrpo Well it isn't that easy to find pictures of Jason with the band. I made the comment because I'm not fond of Scott, he represents the path Weezer decided to go down after Mikey left.
It's off of DGC Rarities Vol 1. Recorded by one of their friends as a project for his recording class. It was recorded live to two track. I think he only got a B on the project. Probably the only one in the class that got something officially released...
@OpIvyBlackOps Well it is thought this song was written for Rivers' brother Leaves, who changed his name to James (he's a lawyer), then it was converted to a love song. So I'm not so sure about that.
@OpIvyBlackOps The lawyer referred to in this song is a girl. Her name is/was Jamie Young, and inspired the songs titled (get this) "Jamie" and "Mrs. Young"
Rivers Cuomo, in addition to writing a song in which he describes sniffing and tasting an 18-year-old fan's fan letter before imagining said fan masturbating, has also written what basically amounts to a love song to his lawyer.
@goldfrag21 actually weezer originally made this... dashboard confessional covered this song... this song was never famous because it was on the blue album deluxe as a bonus song and they dont sell that one anymore...
so appreciate this song dude... this is a rly great song!
@goldfrag21 Dude, first of all, Jamie is an original B-Side by the band. Dashboard Confessional are a bunch of whiny bitches who wouldn't even BE around if they didn't have Weezer to listen to when they were growing up. This is my favorite Weezer song. Get your facts straight.
@chisels13 Yeah, Weezer is a great band but i personally like Dashboard Confessional much better. Even if i didnt like Dashboard Confessional, you should call others a bunch a whiny bitches.
Other than that, this song is great and i like this version better than Dashboard Confessionals.
@brutuscassius1 That Geffen rarities album was the cat's ass - The Beck song was awesome, this was awesome even the Counting Crows song was above acceptable!
I was 16 back then =P,I didnt even understood what the lyrics said, why I still like this : D ¿?¿?¿? maybe I hear it now from a diffrerent angle ?¿¿?¿?
Weezer makes me cry.. this band truly had great potential, they incorporated their influences really well plus they had their own unique sound .. can somebody tell me... what the F*CK HAPPENED!? i mean "New" Weezer sucks!!
@harshroger My theory is that Matt Sharp was the glue keeping it together. Paul Simon was obviously the main member of Simon and Garfunkel, and yet, when they split, Paul Simon couldn't write a song for shit. And similarly, when Matt Sharp left Weezer, it all went downhill. Pinkerton has my vote for best album of alltime.
@harshroger Pinkerton did't get as much success as the blue album and it freaked Rivers out so he basically sticks to soulless bubblegum pop instead of putting any feeling in his music.
It's a nice sonic bridge between Kitchen Tape Era and the Blue Album. It was recorded by a college student (from Loyola Marymount) for his senior year engineering project/thesis.
@gtbtone this also appeared as a b-side of buddy holly, at least on the uk release. excellent track, bring back sharpey, they've been shite since he left.
This is seriously my favorite song of all time and it didn't even make an album. It's super simple, but the melody is just amazing. It's the perfect mix of rock and pop, which is why Weezer used to be so sweet. @greaser1952 Actually, a college student recorded them for a class project in the early 90s before they signed with Geffen. This was also supposed to be their first single in 1993, but they managed to sign with Geffen before it was released.
@GitarHeroInNeverland its different. very sweet. i love the female vocalist in it, but it doesnt have the weezer feel, of course. still i think dashboard brings enough emotion to the table to justify a cover.
