love this cilla clip, she was fab and still is,she did hold her arms against her body though, she said herself -if i dont feel comfortable i wont do anything else, then shirley bassey and other singers around the time gave her advice, watch as cilla progressed through the 60s,around 66-onwards,she outstretched her arms and feels the songs, and shows so much emotion that you feel what she is singing, wonderful cilla, how much i love your voice, please come back-even to say goodbye x.
People forget how huge she was, in America as well as Britain. She was the biggest artist under Brian Epstein's management apart from The Beatles themselves.
She's a terrific, totally underrated singer. Fabulous voice and so charming. I like the way she moves. It's graceful and quirky in a way that suits her super-slim mod body.
Excellent vocals...even with her arms tied losely together behind her back at the elbows she still pulled it off perfectly....really swingin job! -a top of the line Slockfamed performance with a grand florureether ending
@MightySaturn5 "even with her arms tied loosely ... behind her back..."....that is HILARIOUS!!! LOL!! Rather peculiar indeed, but I think it works...kinda cute.
I actually like it on her better than on the beatles!! It has that sixties swing that can't come from a beat band; But like all Lennon-McCartney songs, it's a great piece :D
Her upper body movement and especially the way she moves her arms is based on a dance style popular in the clubs of the time. So it is style and not personal quirk.
@potaluca she's cool but why doesn't she move her upper arms? what I mean is does anyone notice this? I don't mean to make fun, what I'm worried about is nobody's mentioned it on the comments, something like that usually makes the comments. sincerly- THE PHANTOM OF THE DRIVE IN!!!!!!!!!!!!
@24liam24 - LOL -- I can just see the planning meeting, "What will we have her do during the music break? Hmmm., let's have her skip around the trees! "
Great to see these old tapes again, I thought they had either been taped over, thrown out with the rubbish or bought up by Dave Clark (of The Dave Clark 5)
The Beatles sang this song for their Decca audition. The Decca tapes have been available for years as a Bootleg along with Like Dreamers Do another early Lennon/McCartney song.
I used to have in my possession a 1960's Beatles magazine which had the sheet Music to one of these songs, which is unusual as neither were officially released.
Decca Records rejected The Beatles, saying that "guitar groups are on the way out" and "the Beatles have no future in show business."
I have the decca album. Strange enough it was in a local record store with all 15 decca recordings. i don't know how it passed for a legal album. i don't know why the beatles version of this song wasn't featured on Anthology. It was THE best McCartney song not officially released.
I acquired an "unofficial" album LP and later the Yellow Dog CD. I am surprized that Love of the Love and September Rain didn't make the Anthology either, some of their better performances from the Decca audition. This was Brian Epstein's choices, not the Beatles at their wildest.
However, like the abbreviated release of the Live at the BBC, a lot of good material was left out of the Anthologies.
Exactly, I have the additional songs as well but it would be nice if the world had an official releaase. There's much more that hasn't been officially available. It certainly wouldn't be a question as to whether or not it would sell. Probably the usual red tape.
@lakefloor yeah i just listened to the beatles version and i was wondering the same thing. why wasn't it on the anthology.....it's not like anyone would have complained if they had enough material to release an anthology 4 cd....
Ha Ha! It is just that she keeps her upper arms tight to her side all the way through the song. Cilla did this a lot in the early days. Obviously she does not have hairy armits! Just my joke which is not really that funny anyway!
the legendary brian matthews still on radio 2 saturday mornings doing his sounds of the sixties show, hard to imagine that here we are 46 years later and brian matthews is still employed by the bbc

Paul wrote this for his girlfriend at the time (ex-fiancee), Dot Rhone. Cilla's a very gear bird.

Cilla recorded mainly strong ballads which we all remember, but imo this was her best recording. Totally different to anything else she recorded.
