Thanks for this video. I'm 5'9 and would blow away in a stiff wind, and put my 500+lb XJ750 on the center stand ... wel, it wasn't the 3rd try, but it was less than the 10th. =)
Something simple that could go wrong if you don't know these little tips. To all the haters, not all of us are born into/onto motorized two wheels. Thanks for the clear exposition.
@MrEquequ Agreed! I picked up an f650gs last night after spending 8 years heavily into motorsport in a car and I was immediately humbled. Little things like putting it on the center stand put me in my place immediately and made me feel like I was 16 with my first license all over again!
Yeah I put a center stand on my 2010 f650gs and struggled for 2 weeks putting it on the center stand (wrongly) putting weight on the wrong area of the center stand. I even dumped the bike once while doing it. I learned how to do it from a youtube video from one of the bike forums. Excellent.

LOL just tried your method. I just got a 'new' bike and embarrasingly could not get it on center stand. This video really helped, 3 easy things to remember (use legs, both feet of stand on ground, lift up not back) and it's now a piece of cake! Was all excited to come on and say Thanks, then saw 52 comments of others, same story. Anyway, thanks so much! For each comment, there are probably 8 others who you've helped who didn't respond.
thats the easy part its harder to smothly get it off, because u need to get both legs on the ground then pull in the front brake then let go and sit on the bike
@rakeau - I know how you feel. I own an FJR1300. Just got it last month. I tried for a week or two, trying to figure out how to do it. I finally managed to understand how it works. And get this. I weigh only 53 kg. That's less than 117 lbs. And I can do it with a 650lb bike. I know you can do it. Here's the tip. When you press your leg down, don't pull up with your right hand. Instead, pull the bike back. Do the same with your left hand on the handlebar, but not as strong. Try it!
I tried it, having a lot of trouble though .. I'm very light (55kg / 120lbs), i think my lack of strength AND lack of weight available to push down on the stand prevents me from being able to do it .. I can feel the bike try but not enough to step up. And pulling on the handlebar just turns the wheel/forks and throws everything off... I just end up thrashing the bike around. :(
WOW.... thank you so much.... i just bought a gpx250, and sadly i couldnt put it on the centerstand.... but now iv seen this, i can easily do it first go!! its all about technique!!!
Thank you soooo much for this video tutorial. It has shown me just how easy it is to use the centre stand. I have been struggling with my new bike but after watching your tutorial I can now pop it up like a pro! 5*!!
I have an aftermarket stand on my bike... barely lifts the bike at all, real easy. My favorite thing to do is get the FJR1300 riders (hard to put on center stand) to give it a shot... the look on their faces when they do it is just priceless.
THANK YOU! I just got my scooter and was a little exasperated because I was doing it wrong. Thanks a lot for this tip. It was EFFORTLESS ..w ell almost hehe.
thank you thank you i was pissed because i was having trouble putting my gs on its center stand. after watching your video. i got it on the first try.
you don't need to use the left arm to role the bike back; just press with the right foot and lift with the right hand; hardly any upper strength required.
Great video! My wife is only 5'0" tall, and rides an F650GS (factory lowered). She has trouble getting on the centerstand...maybe this video will explain it better than I can!
