  • I want to understand to use your suica for green class you had to pass it in another machine before boarding which machine is that? Is it for reserving a seat? Plz explain

    Thanks

  • @armanga

You have to pass your suica card in the machine on the platform (near the position where the green cars stop), buy a green-car "ticket" (as a data in your card) with the machine, and you can use the green car.

You can sit on any seats you like in the green car. As soon as you get to your seat, you have to touch the card reader on the ceiling, which makes the attendant notice that the person on your seat has valid "ticket", then the attendant will not come to check your ticket.

  • TIP: Your Suica card doesn't have to be used on just trains and subways. You can use them at grocery stores and at ending machines. I know from experience :D Check on the site or something if you want to know what else to use it for. Or google it.

  • going to tokyo tomorrow and still don't understand this? what are they swiping it for... there's no door to go through? argh...

  • what happens if yours get stolen or lost? looks like anybody who gets their hands on it can use it just like that with no verifications whatsoever. is there is limit on how much you can put on it each day?

  • @idkyoo

    it's doposit system

    you can charge only 20,000yen=180$(1$=80yen)

if you lost Suica, you can stop using your Suica

if you paid 500 yen, you can reissue new Suica with same balance

ofcource, when you find lost Suica, you can regain this 500 yen

my pasmo (like Suica) is second cord…so this system is very useful

  • "except with the oyster card you have to take it out the wallet"

You must have a thick wallet!, i have my oyster card, suica and mango IC cards all in my wallet and never have to remove them - apart from when i'm topping my suica up.

  • First time in Shinjuku i was lost.. But finally was very funny!! :P

  • Does it work with Den O Belt too? ^_^

  • I just got my pasmo card today. Hopefully I don't get too confused exploring the stations. ;p

  • what a nice example of how convenient travel can be! i was just comparing this with my daily work travel: let's see, would i rather walk 15 minutes, put cash or my debit card into a machine, chose which ticket, take my ticket and swipe it , then sit down (or stand if it's not my lucky day), sleep on the way to work (everyone sleeps in the subways in tokyo, even standing), OR open the car door, stick in key, turn on, stop for gas, remember to rotate tires, pay attention or crash, renew insurance

  • wish some places could be that simple, but sadly it isnt, here in usa, i have to take a bus, and still after then hour bus trip i have to walk for a hour, wish they could make things easier

  • well its easy in NY :D

But keep in mind that the landmass in japan vs. america is extremely different. Its a lot easier to get awesome transportation when you have a lot less land to cover.

  • @ Z0mgROFLcopterz: Don't feel to bad... even here in the Netherlands, a tiny country compared to the US, you can't get everywehere with the public transport : there are enough places here that don't have bus-and railconnections, and when they do have, very limited ( 4 times a day, only in rush-hours taht kind of stuff)

  • i know the feeling how ever some parts of the country or doing the tram system (think of a monorail but alot damn safer in my opinion) For example colorado. Last i heard beside ihaving a tram for the major parts, denver parker DTC etc etc there making them connect from that point to go to like fort collins some ski resorts even Grand junction (4-5 car trip going about 75-80 MPH)

  • thats a cool system, i heard about that from TokyoCooney. Nice video

  • DAMN! I wish we had this over in the Netherlands... we have the fucked up PT-chipcard system over here very unfriendly gates and other stuff... but the people over there are different: everybody pays for their ticket (it's probably cheaper over there to than here in Holland)

  • like an oyster card which we use in london... wooow. :|

  • except with the oyster card you have to take it out the wallet. with suica you can keep the card in - the sensors will still detect. and you can also buy stuff with it, like drinks and food in and around the station.

  • What happened to the credit card?

They don't accept credit card any more?

  • of course they accept credit cards...you can use it for expensive fares such as tickets for express trains or the bullet trains...

  • Los japoneses están muy adelantados, cosas asombrosas.

  • what will happen if you walk through the gate without a card?

  • YOU WILL LOOSE UR BALLS..LOL

  • nah, those gate aren't that powerful. I have seen a man without a card pulled open the gate and just walked through .

  • maybe he's a forigner, not japanese. very rare case

  • neat!! the card works in many fashions heheheheeh

  • wait let me translate wat that says if i can...

sugoi desne. konnani suica, pasmo nokoto__betan desune.

i think that means: isnt that cool. ______________. haha i need to improve my japanese.

  • すごいですね。こんなにsuica,pasmoのこと調べたんですね。

  • yeah!!
