  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • I think you should take off your keyboard cover, considering thats where most of the fans suck in air to cool the components from...

  • @Super69Johnny

Isn't that because of what you're doing on it tho? Not to assume nething but with a 13(what I'm stuck between (13 2.4ghz or 15 2.2)) I don't think you're gonna be doing hardcore rendering, compiling, etc.

  • Orded This Today!

  • @planerhys121 It's awesome! I love mine

  • What kind of programming do you do?

  • is it to heavy to carry around

  • @JY5270 It's quite light actually.

  • Hey, NEVER cover your macbook pro keyboard: The gaps between the buttons are part of the cooling system (air circulation) so it's no wonder your machine becomes that warm!!!

  • I'm going to buy the macbookpro 15", i will also use it for video editing and stuff like that, do you think the 2,2 ghz processor was worth the money?

  • @STR4P4Zi3 Definetly.

  • I use Premier and After Effects occasionally. Im no professional so I'm usually just playing around, But It gets hot enough that you don't want it on your lap but not hot enough to burn you. But it gets pretty hot hottest mine ever been is 189 degrees ferinhiet.

  • HI i bought a macbok pro 2011 SSD drive, just had it for 3 days now... Just wondering where do you get that temperature icon/info from on the top right???

  • If I buy this will it be really hot if I start using adobe cs5 on it?

  • @Fredrikomovies Not sure, I don't use Adobe stuff.

  • @mkngrm dude, got a 17" 2.3ghz running CS5.5, no problems! its a beast!

  • @Fredrikomovies Depends...

  • @Fredrikomovies No. However, if I were you, I'd update to CS5.5 and I'd highly recommend a SSD.

  • I really want one but its way too expensive so i am getting a dell instead.

  • i keep on almost buying this 15.4" antireflective pro model

but the fan issue versus the air is stopping me

YET i want to use bootcamp to run full license of windows7 and xp if i can!

bdodds1985 feel free not to comment ya weirdo!

  • is the 15.4 inch screen too small>?

  • @planerhys121 its a normal size laptop screen its 15.4" the regular.....

  • @planerhys121 For what?

  • ballsy move bring it to school if i got 1 i would bring it school and there would b a 200% chance of me getting it stolen ya i hate my school and the pp; in it exept for like 20 ppl (nonblack).

  • Yes your supposed to take off the hard shell case and wipe down the laptop once a month. The hard shell case + keyboard protector will make the laptop run warmer.

  • uh... um... uh umm.. i um. this video turned me off to the case i was going to buy and annoying youtube videos alike. if you can edit videos you should do just that to this one, and pause when you ummm, when uh, yea i cant remember off the top of my head. edit your videos to contrast your speech impediment and short term memory loss. take it easy, peace. uh.

  • @bdodds1985 u mad.

  • @mkngrm not at all i have a 17" 2.3 8gb 1600mhz with a 256gb ssd anti glare

  • @bdodds1985 Its awesome isn't it!

  • @TheGolferyegs72 best computer ive owned, most expensive also. next is a 13" air just the 128gb one. for whatever and where ever.

  • @mkngrm dude the vid was good, he's just a nerdy little fag

  • @mkngrm yeah he mad

  • @mkngrm original, and your video still sucks

  • @bdodds1985 Come back when your videos get more than 100 views, fobbit.

  • @bdodds1985 While your writing is atrocious.

  • please be honest, has the speck case EVER scratched nicked or whatever ur macbook?

  • @randomrazr Never.

  • @mkngrm good to know!

do you take it off very often to clean though?

  • @randomrazr Haven't taken it off once.

  • @mkngrm arent you suppose to to clean out the dust and debris that collects underneath it? lol

  • @randomrazr Yes, he's supposed to clean it out

  • @mkngrm you will get dust scratches on the laptop in the future

  • speck easy to take off?

    @Billmister

  • @randomrazr No, BUT, there is a method. I believe speck or incase has a youtube video on removing their hard shell case. Pretty much if you stand it up on it's side its easiest. And it should be cleaned. Tiny dusts will scratch your laptop

  • This is an amazing machine, unlike the previous gen ones which get upto 90deg while running flash on the web. the new 2011 ones are still cold

  • nuff protector crap?

  • @lfshannu No, I actually just got a glass case to keep the dust off of it while I'm not using it.

  • maybe its getting worm because of the cover...

  • @spacecy Maybe you're getting worm because of the dirt.

  • Speaking of 'useful utilities', I don't see Cocktail in your arsenal. Suggest you download it right away. Thumbs up if you find it useful.

  • People have already said it: the keyboard skin is one thing (for Christ sakes, it's a BLACK keyboard, not white), but you've also go a skin covering the entire macbook. Look, I'm just like you -- my first iPod never left its case, my current iPhone gets a new skin every month. But when it comes to macbooks -- use it as it is, don't cover it. After a while anyways (maybe 3 years later) you'll wonder why you had all that stuff covering it in the first place.

  • The clear keyboard cover is blocking the air flow though the board to the fans... take it off and it wont get so hot...

  • Apple charges you $150 for matee screen and all it is, is the glossy screen with the glass on top removed. So let me get this straight. Apple basically charged you $150 to remove a piece of glass. WOW! Apple totally ripped you off man.

  • @jpcwa74 its a completely different display and it displays colors more accuracy, so if your doing photography or anything like that its worth it.

  • @lfshannu macbook pro's display var depending on where they are made. Different displays are put on same spec macbook pro's.

  • Same one I'm going to get without all the options, stock after July 4. It's going to be a good 6 year investment throughout college so I'm just going get the upgrade to 2.2 ghz paying extra $300.

  • Are you using a keyboard cover? Because that is why it's running so hot. The Macbook Pros intake is through the keyboard and out the back. You shouldn't use one if you are.

  • I have to say about the temperature, my dad's iMac gets hot, I mean VERY hot, you could fry and egg there. The temperature problem on macs is probably due to the enclosing used on the machines, it is a pretty heavy aluminium, and has very little breathing holes. The iMac for example only has a small cut-out bar on the back....

  • @mkngrm .. i do slot of moving making and editing and live partly in the caribbean and uk?

  • Wow , I seriously dont know if to get anti glare or glossy?!?! HELPP!:)

  • @planerhys121 Depends on where you're going to be using it most of the time. Go to an Apple store, if you can, and check it out for yourself.

  • thanks for the video looking at changing to Mac from HP. very helpful

  • Great video.. very helpful!

  • I 've been thinking about getting a macbook pro, but I'm not sure wether I would take the 13 inch or the 15 inch.

    What would you suggest?

  • Quick question, I have heard alot of people having problems with the Speck case because of it scratching the inside...have you had any of that?

  • i'm right there with you bro! Life long PC user love it for gaming. But recently switched over because I am an semi-pro photographer. I also have started to play with videography. So the mac pro is awesome running aperture, final cut, and lightroom and photoshop.

  • should i get the high res or the high res anti glare

  • this or a 27inch imac i7...decisions decisions

  • Could you do a test of a game? :)

  • 87C is too hot thats like 200F. I think.

  • @Element7530 Macbooks don't shut down until 100 degrees C. It's fine.

  • @Element7530 its only 188F

  • Mine just got here today with my 8GB crucial memory upgrade kit!

  • hey how do u view the temp of ur macbook pro?

  • I just recently got mine, a macbook pro 15" 2.2 8GB glossy HD 750 SATA. I think the non-antiGlare is aesthetically pleasing, the anti-glare looks a little bit more boring. And sk8king05 if you can afford it get the highest model your wallet can afford, even though your not going to be using it to its fullest demand its always good to know that you have that extra ghz and ram there. Also you probably won't have to upgrade in the next six months, haha!

  • hey bud i ordered the 15" 2.0GHz model antiglare. Do you think this is a great machine worth the money?

  • Comment removed

  • 8:04

    why is it not charging?

mine does that too sometimes... is it because of the gpu..?

  • ANSWER QUESTION PLEASE !!! ANSWER QUESTION PLEASE !!! ANSWER QUESTION PLEASE !!! ANSWER QUESTION PLEASE !!! when ur battery is finished charging while plugged in to the magsafe do it still use the battery or direct power from the wall???

  • hey i can't decide wether to purchase the 13" baseline, 13" i7, or the 15" baseline. I'm not sure if I will need the quad core in the 15". I'm going to be doing things like web browsing, movies, iTunes, frostwire, and school work. please respond quickly :)

  • @sk8king05 I'd say go try one out in a store if you can, if performance isn't a huge issue then it really comes down to size and weight. The 13" would be nice if you had to carry it everywhere with you and wanted to save weight and space. I carry the 15" with me to class everyday and don't mind the extra weight at all.

  • @sk8king05

    Normal Stuff: 13".

    Heavy Video-Editing and/or Gaming: 15" 2.2 Ghz with the Ati 6750M.

It's a lot of money, but I for myself look at it as an investment into the future :)

  • don't purchase any ot these now cause Apple is releasing new design for i5 and i7 in december. nowadays MBP aren't designed for these CPU ! personnaly I stick to my old MBP 2009 core 2 duo and I don't get overheating problems as i5 or i7 has .

  • @MrEatmy really? where did you hear that?

  • do you think it will over heat playing sims 3 and expansions???

  • @TableChip94 Guarantee it won't.

  • @mkngrm thanks :)

  • I thought all the Macbook pros had the black border around the screen.. but yours is a silver border, did you order a custom or different type?

    Great video btw :)

  • @Genic452 The antiglare has the silver edge.

  • @Genic452 All glossy screens come with the black border, I got the anti-glare option and those come with the silver border.

  • i have the 13inch model for 1 week now its the best computer i have ever used never switching back to windows !!!!!!

  • put some tape on it xDDD

  • Hi I am debating on whether or not to buy the glossy version or the anti-glare version of the 15' macbook pro. since you have an anti-glare version, maybe you can help me...

Is the silver border around the screen plastic, or aluminum like the body?

Also does it seem like dust and dirt would get under that border easily?

And one more, does the actual screen seem durable? is there anything like a layer of glass or plastic over the LCD, or is it just the LCD under the border? thanks for helping. :)

  • So i have a choice....I could purchase a $2200 macbook pro at best buy with many gift cards i've saved over the years or i could purchase an upgraded version off the apple website including a high res display. I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not its worth the extra money. I will on occasion do photo and video editing. It will mostly be intended for music editing. I don't care for the anti-glare since I rarely use it outside my apartment. what are your thoughts?

  • @ttsuter87 apple online

  • What are those keyboard covers called?

  • what keyboard layout do you have? mine doesnt have the hole word tiped, like comand: its sais cmd, options is alt, delete is a left arrow, its wierd

  • Its so lame how It will cost me £2,249 for the MacBook Pro 15'' without Apple Protection plan... Which comes out to $3714 USD

So I have to buy MBP 13'' i7

    #FAIL

  • Man ! i have a doubt !

my father offers me a 13" MacBook Pro with a Apple LED Cinema Display with keyboard and magic trackpad or a 15" MacBook Pro with keyboard and trackpad-?

  • @rodanayal go with the 15" dude. you'll get quad core i7, dedicated graphics up to 1GB, and the option of high res display of 1680x1050. you will regret 13"

if you feel the need of larger display, go with the new samsung external displays so you don't pay the price of the apple logo. hope that helped you. good luck

  • @ibanez0830 thank you ! :)

i'm getting the $2199 Macbook next week !

  • @rodanayal the second

  • does ur hinge make a clicking sound when u open and close it?

mine makes a couple clicking sounds when u opena dn close it :S

    should i be worried?

  • @randomrazr It doesn't, no. I'd suggest taking it to an Apple store and having them take a look at it if you're really worried about it.

  • cant wait for mine, should be in my hands next week

  • @BAGLERS1

i was reading the comment and i saw your it helped a lot i was thinking about getting one of those covers but maybe not because u make a really good point

  • I was going to suggest that If you're programming and you don't want to use spaces to switch between work and browsing desktop. Then try an Application called Coda. Its brilliant and allows a programming side and compiler all in one.

Its not much money and its definitely worth it in my opinion as a heavy javascript programmer. I'm sure you could find the p-list for it somewhere on the internet though.... Nice video! Take it easy dude!

  • @Joeliustothemaximus Thanks for the tip ;). I actually just found Coda a couple weeks ago as I have to do quite a bit of PHP development for school, as well, and was looking for an all-in-one program. I came across it and haven't looked back. I'm still on the trial but I'm having a hard time justifying the $99 price tag. We'll see, I'll probably end up buying it.

Glad you liked the video :)

  • Hey Can u help me a bit ? I am a 13 years old kid so i dont have much money for i7 quad core xD but i want to do come cinema 4d and photoshop but only some times..

For the most time i will be using after effects to edit montages and all that ...

Is it going to be a huge diference if i get a 13 inc i5 or i7 ? Is it worth it ? Thank you ! Great Review

  • @GamerCrazyHD I can't really say whether it would be a huge difference between the i5 and i7, your best bet would be to try an Apple forum where people have some test results from both machines. I do know that the difference between the 2.2ghz and 2.3ghz i7 in the 15" doesn't make a huge difference, but you're talking about a 400mhz difference. If I had to bet, you would be better off with the i7. Just my opinion though, I don't have any facts to back that up. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

  • yeah its hot because of ur plastic cover it blocks the exhausts.

  • @tven99 The temps are the same as any other 2011 and they stay the same whether the cover is on or not. Thanks for your input, though.

  • @BAGLERS1 Gosh, some people don't know what they're talking about...

I'm pretty sure that the 2011s have double the cores of your 2010. Of course a quad core is going to run hotter than a dual, I don't understand your point that yours runs cooler. If you look it up, the temps are normal for what pretty much every 2011 is running at under load.

With or without the case and keyboard cover, my temps stay the same under load.

  • i am a lifetime windows user just like yourself and this video was exactly what ive been looking for to finally make my choice in a macbook pro. one question, i do video editing and photo editing and also play high end games, is this the right macbook for me?

    thanks

  • @shuttershockvlog First off, I have to say that I've never used video editing software before in my life. iMovie was so incredibly simple to learn and produces some really nice stuff. So I can say that video editing with the built-in software is a breeze. Photo editing, I'm not so sure of.

If you want to run high-end games, your best bet is to install Windows via Boot Camp. You will lose the graphics switching, though, and will decrease battery life.

That said, it's an awesome machine.

  • @mkngrm thank you so much for replying so fast! Looks like ill be picking one up this week :)

  • @shuttershockvlog No problem at all. Good luck with your new Macbook!

  • @shuttershockvlog You're not going to get much more performance out of the 17", but if you're going to be doing photo/video editing, the extra screen real estate will probably be benificial. The 15" is plenty for what I use it for (minor gaming, software development, YouTube videos, etc.). You're pretty much limited to the 2.2ghz 15" and above; the base model 15's graphics card is not suitable for gaming.

If you have any other specific questions let me know.

  • Have you tried installing Linux on that thing?

  • @jrc2k Why would I want to do that?

  • @mkngrm You said in the video that we should ask you questions about the macbook pro, so this is something that would quite interest me. But I can't give you a really convincing reason why you would want to do it. :-) Anyway, since you have mentioned in the video linux, and that you do software development, could you maybe at least elaborate about how is the productivity under these two systems?

  • @jrc2k To give you a little bit more background to my previous question, I am a developer under linux, and I have no experience with Mac OS X. I am currently considering switching to Mac, but from the videos I can't help but the environment seems very nice and polished, but I feel like it's design over functionality in many areas. I was wondering if you have some thoughts on that.

  • @jrc2k The only development I currently do on the Macbook is C++. I don't use Xcode (Apple's free IDE) so I'm not sure how well that would work for you, and I can't speak for any other languages but C++. Mac OS X is Unix-based, so I've found the transition from Linux (I've used 5-6 distros) to be very easy. I don't think I could work without a terminal, so that was definitely a big factor in my decision to go Mac.

  • @mkngrm +1 for the terminal. I tried to get cygwin to work under Windows 7 at my previous employer, but I couldn't get it well integrated. It felt like an external app. So the fact that Mac OS X is UNIX is definitely a key reason why I even consider it. So we are on the same page here. :-)

  • @jrc2k I don't remember if I mentioned this in the video or not, but I mainly went with a Mac because I'm going into IT and wanted to familiarize myself with the OS. Like you said before, you can buy a similarly-spec'd Windows laptop for half the price and throw Linux on it to get the functionality you need. If you have no desire to learn Mac OS and only want to use the machine for coding, I wouldn't recommend a MBP $. That said, I do love this machine and don't regret the purchase one bit.

  • @mkngrm Well, adding knowledge of another OS to your resume certainly doesn't hurt. Besides, judging from what I see at developer conferences, a lot of top developers are using Mac, so you are definitely in a good company. :-) So I'm really glad that you are happy with your purchase and wish you many productive and entertaining hours with it!

  • @jrc2k Thanks for your all your comments and I hope I was able to be a little bit of help for you. Good luck with whatever decision you make!

  • @mkngrm Thank you for making this video and for taking the time to answer my questions. I really appreciate it!

  • @jrc2k I think most Linux software will work on a Mac, I'm currently using gedit along with the terminal to write code.

If you're reluctant about switching from Linux, I can honestly say that you won't notice a difference. It is a very simple and clean OS and I've had zero problems since I got the machine. Just out of curiosity, what language(s) do you use and what distro of Linux?

  • @mkngrm I 100% agree, the UI is beautiful, and you have the 'just works' effect. :-) Getting a Linux distro running is always pain. In 2011, Linux desktop is still not there yet.

From this perspective, Mac is fine. My only concern is productivity. E.g. when I work, I have multiple windows open, many browser windows, terminals, IDE, etc. What I need is a one-click access to them. Does Mac OS X offer that, or do I have to always use expose or multiple mouse clicks to get to the window I need?

  • @jrc2k The one thing that I don't like is switching between windows of the same application. I don't know if I just haven't figured it out yet or what, but you have to right-click on the application's icon and select which window you want to use. Spaces is the best way, I've found, to stay organized and have everything easily accessible. Expose is very nice, though, because all you need to do is swipe with 4 fingers on the trackpad to bring up all your windows.

  • @mkngrm Thanks for this insight. That is the kind of thing I was referring to. The UI on the Mac simply looks too good to not suffer from such little usability issues. :-) Nevermind, I'm sure one can get used to a different workflow/features that Mac OS X offers.

  • @mkngrm And I've been using Ubuntu for more than 5 years. I'm considering switching, because I don't like where Gnome desktop is going. Both Gnome 3 and Unity are for morons-with-netbooks, not for power users. So I will be making some switch in the near future for sure, either to KDE (Kubuntu or SUSE) or to Mac OS X.

As for the languages, I am a Java developer, but that is not an issue. Java on the Mac seems to have bright future. My concern is productivity, as I mentioned in the other post.

  • @jrc2k I totally agree about the direction that Gnome is going. I couldn't stand the last Ubuntu release so I decided to start trying some other options. I tried a few other distros (on my netbook) and finally ended up with Fedora. It wasn't bad, but I needed something larger than 10" to really be able to work efficiently on.

I will say that I've been able to be very productive on my Macbook. Like I said before, keeping everything on a separate desktop really helps me stay on track.

  • @jrc2k I didn't mean to sound rude, sorry if it came off that way, I had just never thought of putting Linux on this machine. I was wondering if you had any particular reason why you would want to put Linux on a Macbook.

  • @mkngrm No problem. If I switch to the Mac from Linux, I sure hope I will not have a reason to put Linux on it. :-) I would buy a Dell or Lenovo with the same specs for half the price if I would plan to run Linux from the start. :-) I just want to have a backup plan, just in case I don't like Mac OS X. Anyway, I know it's possible, I was just wondering if you don't have any first-hand experience with it, since you mentioned Linux couple of times. But never mind, thanks for answering my question.

  • I am a life long user of Windows as well. I do want the exact Macbook that you have here though. So what are some pros and cons if i were to change over to apple? Also. how much did it cost and where did you purchase it? =] thanks!

  • @sumofnessa30 The pros/cons are up to you to decide, I did it because I do a lot of C++ development as part of my college coursework. I was tired of writing code on a little 11" EEEpc but still wanted access to the terminal. So instead of buying a laptop and paying for Windows (which I would have taken off anyway), I bought a Macbook and still had my terminal access.

I used the student discount from the online store and it came out to about $2300-ish after taxes and everything.

  • dont use the keyboard cover! macbooks vent through the keyboard.... thats why you're running hot!

  • @hauptma2

    this is true

  • what program are you using to monitor temps in your menu bar?

  • @thetypicaldotcom smcFanControl

  • @mkngrm ah must have missed that section in my skimming of the video. Thanks!

  • @mkngrm ah must have missed that section in my skimming of the video. Thanks!

  • what progrm are you using to monitor temps on the menu bar?

  • dont use the guard! that interfere the cooling system! air flows in under the keys and out under the screen!

  • @mujarik I've had it on 24/7 and haven't gotten temperatures any higher than when I didn't have it on.

  • How is the battery life with the 7200rpm drive?

  • @maximsouter7 I don't have one with a 5400rpm drive to compare it to, but on a full charge the battery meter tells me about 8 hours with the screen below half-brightness and wifi on. I haven't taken it all the way down in one sitting, but it tends to be VERY accurate; much more accurate than any laptop I've ever had.

  • I noticed in the beginning you were have the same glitch as I was having on my 2010 mac- if you look carefully the power cable is plugged in and it not glowing green and says not charging. This only happened to me once though and resolved itself, are you still experiencing it?

  • @MrC00ps It seems to only happen when I first plug it in while it's under heavy load. I'm assuming that it's because the machine is using much more power (in that instance it was processing a video). It doesn't happen with normal usage, but I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Does that mean there's a problem with the computer or is it just something that's a known glitch?

  • Just about to buy the same model. But was questioning the 2.2 and 2.3 difference. Going to purchase 2.3GHZ 15" 8RAM anti-glare screen, 750GB. Would there be a difference if I bought the 2.2 over the 2.3?

    Suggestions? Thanks!

  • @MrPanzerDragoon You're not going to be able to notice the difference with the extra 100mhz in daily tasks. From what I've read, you should only buy the 2.3 if you REALLY need all the processing power you can get. As far as the RAM, I'd suggest just keeping the 4gb that comes standard and upgrading yourself. You'll save a lot of money that way.

  • is this the 5400rpm drive or the 7200? cheers.

  • @EDDN20 7200rpm

  • @EDDN20

oh nice, we have the exact same model then haha. hope your enjoying it :)

  • @EDDN20 I'm loving it. It's a shame that it took me this long to try out a Mac, but I'm glad I did.

  • @mkngrm

same here, this is my first mac too. yeah seems to be much more efficient than windows and its a hell of a lot faster than my previous laptop :)

  • you are going to school and you have a wife too? :|

  • @whitemsk Crazy right?

  • do you prefer the 15 inch size over the 13 ?

  • @deadpulse901 I haven't used a 13" but I can say that the 15" isn't too heavy to carry around to/from school. The 15" definitely has more processing power and better graphics; two things which are pretty important if you're going to be doing anything more than just browsing the web and sending emails.

  • @mkngrm yea im tossing up between the two right now, as im planing on buying my first MBP tomorrow for uni (information technology course). i guess in the long run id need the faster processor better gpu etc, do you think its worth the money? and whats your opinion on the design compare to say a dell laptop?

  • @deadpulse901 It's worth the money for me, at least. The faster processor and better graphics are why I bought this machine. If I was only going to be using it to browse the web, I would have gotten the Air.

The design is one of the reasons why I really like the MBP. It's definitely the best looking laptop I know of. The aluminum can be dented but as long as you're careful with it, it should last a long time. Macbooks really hold their value, you can think of it as an investment.

  • @deadpulse901 get it. i just bought the low end 15 inch and its amazing, but im returning it for the hight end 2.2ghz 15 inch. if you have the extra couple hundred its worth it.

  • Great can't wait to test it out
