@dallase1 Does it matter though? If this song has meaning for Christians then thats great imho. In the end the message of most religions are not mutually exclusive. The characters a different but they message is the same, sin is bad, sin hurts others and you will be rewarded for not being a sinner. So...be good...thats something all religions have in common and if this song is a reminder of that to any one of any religion or nationality...thats good in my book

There's a video of Yusuf Islam from UK TV in 1989. There he says he would like to see Salman Rushdie burned to death, and that if Rushdie came to his house, he would call the Ayatollah Khomeni so that Rushdie could be detained and killed.

@RealityCheckHero okay first of all i dnt kow were you got that hadith from but the prophet wouldnt kill the man who brutally stabbed his uncle and cut out his liver for his enslaver. the prophet also accepted the lady who ate his uncles liver into his religion and forgave her and her husband "ABU-SUFYAN AND HIND". the prophet after the battle of badr had captives.. he didnt kill them he offered each one his freedom by teaching a 10 muslims to read and write...... he was the most merciful man.

Alhamdulillah! When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s and I played all my father's Cat Stevens songs on my record player, I developed a kinship with him. Its like he is an anam cara. Yet now that he is playing his old stuff again and we have both converted to Islam---I see we were doing the same soul searching through his music. Thank you, brother Yusuf, masha'allah!

No one has commented that this song originally appeared on the album, Mona Bone Jakon, Yusuf/Cat's first album which reflected his transformation from pop star to significant singer-songwriter released in 1970. The song is remains meaningful, as do so many of his songs from that period. He remains a great performer, and we are blessed that he has returned.

there is actually no concrete proof of him playing any musical instrument. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and he would recite the Psalms and the animals and birds would gather and listen to them (he would work and earn his living like any other person but he was extremely hard-working) - may Allaah's peace be upon Prophet David.

Amazing raw young talent who I saw in the early 70's. He converted to Islam to get away from the "immoral world of pop music. Like many religious converts he was looking for a way out of the confusion he found in the materialistic society.
His drive and talent belong to his Greek Cypriot Christian roots with its onus on hard work and responsibility.
Just why he converted to Islam is puzzling to me. Were there less grey areas and more certainties for lost souls? Discuss

There's a lot more to Yusuf tan just an extremely talented artist He gave it all for his spiritual beliefs! Im not a Muslim, but I respect any truthful (but not fanatical) beliefs. If you put aside the rubbish of the tabloids and take a good look at the man youll have to understand and respect what he has done with his life and his career. From what we know now Yusuf was one of the very few 60s pop & rock stars that has really lived the spirit of his generation. Many talented stars like Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrixs, or Janice Joplin died in the attempt to live by their beliefs; most were absorbed by the system they tried to challenge. Yusuf transcended he really made it through the narrow path ¡AWESOME!
