I think you should always be cautious when it comes to them, but white supremists look at blacks (and others) as less just based on skin color. I can't help but think that we of of a higher standard than them!
Most charities take most of the money form themselves which is why there are so many charities always asking for money. However, an attack Clef is just to discredit him so that he won't get most of the donations, but whites would. Why do you think they say the best thing you can do is to give money? OK. On this one I agree with MOST of what you said. what I mean is I understand when you talk about Haiti on a Grand Scale (government, resources...etc) But if it weren't for some of the white doctors in Doctors without Borders, Haiti would have a higher death toll. If it weren't for some of the white NYPD and NYFD volunteers, there would still be some Haitian kids in the rubble questioning whether or not they will survive. That's why I take the stance I do.
I've always been proud to be a black person because first and foremost...I am aware of their strength and tenacity. As soon as I heard the accusations I donated another $50 through Yele, to help Haiti and to reassert my confidence in the integrity of this good organization and its tireless founder.

I have donated and sacrificed my funds to three different charities, including Yele (before I found out about Yele's sketchy finances) I have broadcasted to my network of friends and family the various charities and organizations they can donate to in order to help in Haiti. Even if I wanted to donate a $0.99 can of soup, I'd have to buy it, meaning for the PURCHASE COST ONLY, I'd pay more for my can of soup than the farmer who can provide bushels upon bushels for free. Apply this to Wyclefs situation. He's not providing a service. He's providing FUND RAISING. Just because he's made HIS donation doesn't mean that his co-workers don't get paid for services.
Now...in regards to the areas where it looks like he paid himself (this should've been easy for you). Every musical artist you can think of when they gain a certain amount of prosperity, build a studio for themselves. If they can actually afford it, everything gets produced internally. It's no wonder that a major international success like Wyclef has done just that. So when it comes time to produce fund raisers, would you go to other sources or your own production services?

I was just giving you an example. I understand their are some expenses involved. I was simply making the point that Wyclef is in a position to cut a lot of the expenses. When your expenses far outweigh the donations that actually go to the people then I've got a problem with that. When you pay yourself $100,000 for concert, I have a problem with that.

Of course Jay-Z being who he is will make the money back, but apply that to Wyclef. Suddenly 100,000 for the costs of one FULL concert dosen't seem like that much.
Why spend money on music production and all of that bull crap. People need food, adequate housing, healthcare, etc things that really matter. Hundreds of thousands on concerts and studio production, give me a break.
Hundreds of thousands seems like a lot to us more common folk, but to these guys it's not very much. We have movies being produced for $100,000,000.00's It seems like an awful lot to me, but I'm not a movie producer. Do you really think that this last slew of records that were made for Haitian relief didn't need production. When the disks get made who produces them, who does the burning, photography, other artwork, packaing etc? Think what you want. There are many costs involved.
As a web developer you are offering YOUR OWN SERVICES. NOT ANYONE ELSES! If you have permanent or temp employees, you can't just sa y to them " I 'm not going to pay you this month because see....this work is for charity." I work for a company, and it doesn't matter what cause they want to donate to. My pay IS NOT affected by that decision.
You can do whatever you want with your own efforts and your own time. Making that decision for anyone else is not smart, good business or for that matter...legal.
When you use your own services, especially for FUND RAISERS, who gets the write offs. Is this starting to make sense to you. Yo know...you YouTube Bullies are a queer bunch. Even if they were just covering costs, its a red-flag, and if Wyclef is donating his own money to this cause, these would be good areas for him to focus his donations and remove any possible perception of self-interest.

This is the smartest things Wyclef could have done, come direct to the people.I don't believe any of the allegations against him. Every dollar that goes to Wyclef's charity does not end up in the coffers of older charities, and that is why he has been targeted. Wyclef's NGO is ideal in the sense that there is no bureaucracy. If he sees something that needs to be done, he can do it and he doesn't have the overhead of larger charities, large scale mobilization, salaries etc. Yele is the truth!!!

Oh...ok a question meant to trap me... I'll bite anyway. Program expenses are any amount of resources or programs put in place to help run you org. In the case of Doctors WB, that would be meds, equip., supplies,...etc. Now...when you look at the FACT that these very same doctors have been complaining about nort having enough equipment to the point of performing amputations without anesthetic, but with HACKSAWS, one must wonder ...why?

If you want your money the BEST chance in getting to the Haitians, donate to Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières or MSF).
They have transparency in their finances, world recognized and are on ground zero of the tragedy.
They are efficient with money, 1% to for managing the program, 12% to fund raising, 87% straight to their programs.

Most charities take most of the money form themselves which is why there are so many charities always asking for money. However, an attack Clef is just to discredit him so that he won't get most of the donations, but whites would. Why do you think they say the best thing you can do is to give money? Haitians need food etc., outsiders need the money.

Well...i partially agree with you on that. I do agree that it more than likely is a ploy to re-route the donations from Wyclef to their "organizations". However...I don't think we should look at it whites doing this because their have been so many of them that have helped in various ways. I just read a story on the Yele Haiti website about a 7 year old white boy in Engalnd who raised $200,000 by cycling 8 kilometers around a local park!!

This thinking - not wanting to give total blame to the white man is the reason why blacks were able to enslaved in the first place. No whites did any good for Haiti. If they had, the blacks would not be there to begin with! When the French had it, it was the richest. Once the slaves took it over, it became the poorest -while other African were still enslaved in other nations. Any whites in black nations are their for intel info and sabotage.

OK. On this one I agree with MOST of what you said. what I mean is I understand when you talk about Haiti on a Grand Scale (government, resources...etc) But if it weren't for some of the white doctors in Doctors without Borders, Haiti would have a higher death toll. If it weren't for some of the white NYPD and NYFD volunteers, there would still be some Haitian kids in the rubble questioning whether or not they will survive. That's why I take the stance I do.

I've always been proud to be a black person because first and foremost...I am aware of their strength and tenacity. We do have a long history of that but this has to be the first time that I've experienced that same pride to be both Haitian rooted and African American because of the beautiful nature of the "common folk" as opposed to the lofty historical figures we usually defend.

It seems that this time a few words here and there cannot do the damage intended. Most people familiar with him through hiphop culture know how he feels about his country and would never believe him to any disservice to them. Most Haitian people that are familiar with him through his pre-quake efforts look at any condemming of him as ridiculous. His motives have ALWAYS been apparent. I've seen more black people (as well as others) stand up like "No way could he have done something like that"

Kind of pissy the news sites I was on were pushing this story about him stealing money from his own charity fund but didn't bother to post links to THIS video refuting the claims and explaining the expenditures.
I guess I'm biased but when I heard about this I thought there had to be a legitimate reason, it's Wyclef and HAITI, ffs. Don't have to be African American or Haitian to know his heart is and has always been WITH and FOR HAITI.

I can speak personally on the first time I heard the allegations. i said to myself "What...! There must be a mistake!!!" And I did see that "Clef did have some work to do in keeping his records in order...but it looks as if he has already taken steps to do just that.

It really seems that 'Clef has the people where it counts the most...their hearts. It doesn't matter what spin is going to be put on the recent attacks concerning his record keeping. Most of our people have been like "Wyclef stealing from Haitians, what the hell are you smoking?"
Because 'Clef has a connection with the Caribbean community through herritage and the hiphop community through profession, most people are very familiar with who he is and NOTHING can sway them.

You know...this is the first time in a very long time that I've seen my [black] people in this light. While I'm definitely not discounting peoples of other races/nationalities that have helped tremendously in this relief effort, I'm very surprised at how many of our people have stood up for Wyclef throughout this dilema in accordance with his efforts. Our people in recent history have not stuck together in times of strife, but this time the greater majority have really banded together.

I have no problem trusting Mr Wyclef Jean. I have read extensively about Yele, and looked into these accusations. I can't speculate about the motives of the accusers, but even Gandhi and Martin Luther King suffered the ugly comments of detractors, yet they continued their humanitarian efforts, as does 'Clef. As soon as I heard the accusations I donated another $50 through Yele, to help Haiti and to reassert my confidence in the integrity of this good organization and its tireless founder.

If a farmer wanted to help the cause, he/she could donate food from the farm for free. Even if I wanted to donate a $0.99 can of soup, I'd have to buy it, meaning for the PURCHASE COST ONLY, I'd pay more for my can of soup than the farmer who can provide bushels upon bushels for free. Apply this to Wyclefs situation. He's not providing a service. He's providing FUND RAISING. Just because he's made HIS donation doesn't mean that his co-workers don't get paid for services.

Every musical artist you can think of when they gain a certain amount of prosperity, build a studio for themselves. If they can actually afford it, everything gets produced internally. I was just giving you an example. I understand their are some expenses involved. I was simply making the point that Wyclef is in a position to cut a lot of the expenses. When your expenses far outweigh the donations that actually go to the people then I've got a problem with that. When you pay yourself $100,000 for concert, I have a problem with that.

A couple of years ago...Jay-Z made an album where the producer Timbaland created some music for him. That music, for one song ran Jay- Z $200,000!!! Of course Jay-Z being who he is will make the money back, but apply that to Wyclef. Suddenly 100,000 for the costs of one FULL concert dosen't seem like that much.

We have movies being produced for $100,000,000.00's It seems like an awful lot to me, but I'm not a movie producer. Do you really think that this last slew of records that were made for Haitian relief didn't need production. When the disks get made who produces them, who does the burning, photography, other artwork, packaing etc? Think what you want. There are many costs involved.

You can try to defend Wyclef all you want but numbers don't LIE. Where did all of the donations go? According to official tax documents most of it was spent on his own business. There is no way to get around that. I'm not saying that he won't make good with the donations he recently received, I just don't trust him.

I don't have to defend Wyclef. Wyclef is a grown man that's capable of defending himself. As I've stated before...if you have a business, charitable events you want to donate to don't make YOUR NORMAL EXPENSES magically disappear. Numbers don't lie but people make mistakes based on OPINIONS. His org has existed long before the quakes. He has a prove track record if you look it up, and Who says you have to donate with him? Just donate to the cause somewhere else if you are able.
