I can't buy off on the whip stitch bud. I have seen silverfox's vids, as well as Dave Canterbury, and drew from both their experience when I made mine...but neither method was going to work for me completely. Capote eh? I'll check that out. I do much prefer something that fastens in front vs a pullover. I tend to warm up pretty quick and unbuttoning the front is my first line of defense for that kinda thing. Thanks for the thoughts bud!
Great project! You should check out a "longhunters" shirt. These were worn around the 17th century, made of wool, and are very easy to make, even for us larger fellows (6' 1" 350lbs). What you basically made was a modified capote, worn by the trappers during the early 1800's. I've made both and modified them to my personal needs but also kept a couple for reinactment. There's a great video on the shirts made by Silverfox here on youtube. Using a whip stitch is best. Keep yer powder dry!
Thanks bud. It was a LOT of sewing with the way I decided to go with it, but I am very please with how it turned out. I felt a little silly on Christmas morning when I saw my mother had bought me a sewing machine. HA! I come to visit once a year, but she saw the videos and wanted to help me out. Either way, I've not been happier with a christmas gift in a long time! ;)
Yep, pretty close to a capote, only with buttons, and a mullet! ;)
