Both cars more than likely had manuals, the Z3M's were not offered with a SMG option. Purely car and driver. Not to mention SMG only covered 30% and some odd change of M3 sales.

This is good comparison; Z4M has e46 m3 engine but is lighter than e46 so e92 clearly better power/weight. Many would argue that Z4M is more exciting overall and imo with a few careful upgrades could be on par with e92 m3, therefore remains my choice (also ~20k cheaper in us)

i've driven the e92 M3 on the bmw driver training and i think it's a little overrated to be honest and not very exciting.

i could be bias as my brother has a z4m...but it's honestly very very exciting to drive and has the soul of a sports car. the e92 is perhaps over engineered and has little character IMHO.

had the Z4 m roadster... just bought an 09 M3 coupe... loved my m roadster... i'm starting to like my m3 now that i have 1200 miles;) 2 totally different cars... personally i think the z4M couldve used some more torque when i had it.. ironically, i think the same of my m3... maybe im just a speed freak..i constantly need MORE AND MORE!!! LOL.. both great cars~

and even though i have the EDC option in my M3, I personally feel like my Z4 M Roadster (2006) handled better with just hydraulic steering :P the M3 feels too heavy..maybe im still a bit hesitant to push it to its limits the way i did my m roadster??

N00b, with the M3 using launch control from 500 rpm in the M-DCT, it takes out the driver factor, there is no chance the IS-F comes close. M3 has been testing 0-60 in 4.1 secs.

There are no videos on youtube except one where the driver on m3post said he had not broken into the M3 properly and he was new to 6 speed manual.

Go look at the video of Top Gear drag race where the M3 killed the IS-F, Car and driver, Motor trend, Road and Track.

The M3 kills the IS-F hands down. Tons of tests have been done already and M3 kills it in a drag race (let alone a race track where the M3 completely dominates).

Check Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Driver Republic, Best Motoring, Top Gear and the list goes on. M3 comes out 0.2 - 0.3 seconds quicker in a 1/4 mile and pulls harder over 100 mph.

z4m has a 0-60 time of 4.9 according to bmwusa vs 4.7 on m3. so get the facts straight, but regardless the m3 is faster...especially at hwy speeds. "no replacement for displacement" but I prefer the driving feel of z4m...but different categories. thanks for posting!
