  • Cat is vital for almost anything on the internet.

  • My DM is lucky. He gets to play with a bunch of cute girls.

  • Cool maps!!

  • I hate 4th edition... WOTC has went to hell. Now it's a miniature based board game...

  • give me some of music exampels you used for game???

  • i wish my friends werent such dumbasses or i'd start this up in a second.

  • cat epic gamepeice

  • 9:26, i like it how your moving and gesturing your hands and no one can see... i noticed from your shadow. :D

  • boss cat explained after i posted:C

  • my gosh i saw a boss cat!

  • @pottermorestarkid Yes, 1 inch

  • Dogs are also good for colossal hell-hounds.

  • The cat is the best :D

  • How the hell did you get your vinyl mat to lie flat? I left mine flat under a pile of heavy books for TWO MONTHS and it still had waves in it.

  • i got the 3.5 grid(yup, never upgraded to 4th...to poor) that i just cover with magic cards to make walls and stuff, and catan no# tokens for enemies. It all looks petty dime store shotty but we get buy somehow. All I gotta say is, we really need some of this stuff. Thnx for the tips good sir, you are truly an angel among men.

  • man...making those maps looks like fun.

  • Release the cat! Lol

  • well is it ok to do what i do being that i have a small graph paper tablet that is covered by cards in unexplored areas then i have large sheet of graph paper with rooms on it

  • my friend and i got raped by a stone golum three times in a row.....DM changed it to an earth elemental :p

  • i still prefur the tile sets i cant draw a stright line, and make it look good also i have an encounter with a solo minitor and a solo necromancer when the minitor dieds he respawns as and undead and when he died again the necromancer solo jumps down from his balcony to fight the players any ideas how to tie all this together

  • I like the cat :)

  • @repsesper fantasy video game sond tracks like zelda r also useful in dnd games. just a little tip: )

  • Nice tips, very helpful ty. =)

  • Uh, where can you get one of those cats? I can't seem to find one at my local hobby store. :(

  • @everyone All problems solved by abandoning the pos excuse for an rpg stealing the dnd name. :) fuck 4th edition and its cookie-cutter gaming. i never imagined there would be a tabletop version of WoW. fucking sad.

  • I think my cats would be too OP

  • hey love your vids there so helpfull , i was wondering tho if u could help me out with somthing im making an npc party to try and kill my players a team rocket if you will :P ,my players party is made up of a fighter, cleric, rouge, warlock & a ranger, do you have any ideas as to what would be a good team to take this out? and how i might go about making them run away B4 they get kill we play by the 4E rules any help at all would be nice

  • @FloBotsInc Well, an enemy defender to engage the fighter (busy him), a striker to take down their cleric, a controller to mess up their warlock and ranger, and a leader to keep the enemy party going strong. Now, the part about the players running away is trickier...

  • what maker do you prefer to use on your matt cause im looking for a alternate marker then what i use but i dont want to experiment with my matt cause i have the really big one where the square goto the edge and i already ruined a matt once by useing the wrong maker and didnt notice it till i went to erase it now there is this huge dungeon on and wont go away

  • @tauntdragoon I actually just use washable markers, nothing fancy.

  • @repsesper ok thanks cause i use the staedtler lumocolor non perm. markers and if they leave a faint line be hind that i have to really scrub hard to get rid of but works pretty good

  • Pretty cool, i'm making a DnD-type game but post-apocalypse/medieval based. A weird combination, I know.

  • @lolguy212 I would play that, really I would:) I love post apocalyptic genre.

  • Where EXACTLY can you find those battle mats?

I'm just about to start playing DnD, and am planning on being a DM. and one of those battle mats would be very helpful.

  • @mastrchf11 I got mine at an office supplies store, but I'm sure you could also order one online.

  • @repsesper thx:)!

  • @mastrchf11 go for Chessex's wet erase battlemaps. They're amazing. You can get em on Amazon.

  • @mastrchf11 Actually, the Chessex map is exactly what Respesper uses. They're fantastic.

  • damn dude, clip your fingernails!

  • @nullbyte00 Then I would have a much harder time plucking my guitar strings.

  • @repsesper Try a pick?

  • @repsesper Lute? lol :p

  • D&D enspired me to create my own game!

  • In our games, we use Mage Knight figures instead!.

  • 2 people got pwned by the dire tiger

  • Using maps is complicated and costs some money ($20). That's why I prefer going mapless. But a con to that is if for example, a player goes to get a glass of water. When he gets back, a bunch of new stuff is happening and you have to explain the events. When using a map, the player gets back and sees the character's positions and immediately knows what's going on.

  • I found the video useful and i agree that drawing on the wet erase mat can only be done on the fly but what i found useful was cutting up the different rooms in the dungeon (when its done on paper of course) and laying the rooms ouy in front of people one at a time it allows you to put a lot of detail into rooms and still hav that element of surprise/

  • @RPGamer33 I have definitely tried that before. The downsides are that it increases preparation time and the cut edges can be kinda funky. My best success were these labyrinth pieces I made that could be configured in various ways (still took awhile to make).

  • i like your cat!

  • how about posting some of those playlists you mention toward the end? I think having cool atmospheric music would be amazing O:

  • I love the PVC idea!

  • How do you get minis?

  • can you give some of that music?

  • Thanks for the tips and helping out the newer amung us. ^_^

  • thanks for the tips

  • This was a great video. I was amazed at the amount of detail you put into your maps, especially the marshland map. Thank you for giving me some new ideas.

  • Some excellent ideas here. Thanks!

  • I'm trying to order one of those pads on Amazon. Is yours 27x34? Help me out here . . .

  • @dafeltre mine is 26" x 32", so that sounds good.

  • @repsesper That mat is only 26'' x 32''??? Looks giant!

  • @PaulishMH Um...the one you are referring to might be two sheets placed together. I do that every once in awhile for something really huge.

  • i have those same speakers :D

  • I need a cat. I dont have an end boss yet :P

  • I wish my friends were In to this stuff

  • is this for real?

  • nice video thanks :D

  • amazing vid

  • How much was that big gridpad? I think I need one of those bad boys.

  • @jilloplo Um...around $20-30 if I remember correctly.

  • can you send me some of this stuff or tell me the site plz i would like some of the mate that you draw on plz or maybe some caricters or just some tiles plz soo me and my friends can play we are only 11 and 13 so can you give us some i will tell you my address!

  • can you give me the website where you bought the vinal battle sheet

  • This video gave me alot of ideas that I can use, my group has never really been big with miniatures and dungeon tiles so I was trying to figure out a fun way to get them into using them a little more often. Thanks alot!

  • Love the clear plastic Circle sheets. I think im going to use those for torch light diameter. Ive been looking for a way to make it easy for the rogue to know where the shadows are.

  • How big is your battlegrid? I was wondering of buying one online, just don't know which size I should get. Your seems big enough.

  • @MassacreOfSouls Oh, it's probably about 30" x 50"

  • have you thought about using autocad to make line work plan? Then collage it with photoshop? i know this could take awhile but im sure you could make some awesome looking maps.

  • haha i find that using my cat as a explosion works too all u need to do is put him on the dungeon tiles and he seems to mess it all around :D

  • I always hear jokes about this game i run a gym well work in there but im a important part of the gym itself. and i decided to look it up today and see what it was about. it looks confusing but sumthin id try on a rainy day

  • @Daktav0007 D&D isn't confusing, but it is involved and complex. It's not the type of game you play after reading a page of rules to everyone, like Monopoly or kickball. It's a bit like improvosational acting (usually bad acting, if I'm around) mixed with the strategy of chess and the joy of collaborational storytelling. Though mostly it's played like a hack-and-slash adventure romp through dungeons. I've found that working out for three hours really gets your creativity going, so give it a try!

  • Great video man, glad I stumbled upon it. I would like to see some videos on game mechanics. Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • aw good way to use a cat...

  • I like that you really think ahead for ways to make each individual encounter the best it can possibly be. Must be a great experience to play the game with you. :)

  • collosal dire tiger XD

  • This is epic, thank you so much for the tips!

  • Hey guys, I made quite a few miniatures a few weeks ago for my campaign. You cut them out and fold them in a triangle shape, then tape them to a coin for weight. You can download a rar of them here - h t t p :// bit (dot) ly/d o X Y c 1 (Sorry for the link... Damn youtube)

  • lol its so funny when you say "standing before you is two horryfing beasts" haha :D

  • I'm kinda generally lacking in information as to how D&D combat works.

  • I"m sort of new to D&D, and I was using the internet to look for an answer to one particular question that I had when I came across this video.

I know that, when making an attack roll, a PC has to roll a d20 to determine whether or not their attack hits, but I also see that, in the PH1, each weapon, depending on its size, weight, and type, has one of the 5 other dice associated with it.

Is one of these dice (to determine the damage dealt by the attack) rolled as well, after the d20 is rolled?

  • @nightspawn13 It actually depends what your fighting for bigger monsters roll a d12 for damage for smaller roll a d8 or d6 it depends on what your dm thinks

  • lol we have the exact same dice xD same box and every thing mine is just blue

  • my cat loves baning my dice about :D

  • Lots of help thank you i idident even know they had those large vinal pads

  • OOOOOOOORRRR you can use Dungeon Tiles. =/

  • if the cat is the enemy, all characters should run the hell away from it. lol. where did you bought the tiles?

  • You're a kickass DM.

  • cat.... for comic relief. lol

  • colossal dire tiger!!!!!! that was one of the coolest ideas ever!!!!!! your an awesome DM keep doin what you do.

  • @davidc2468 You can wear those armor types without penalty, otherwise you would suffer a -2 penalty to attacks and Reflex.

  • @repsesper having a proficiency in an armor type or an armor gives you the ability to wear them .

if you dont have the feat for an armor type then you cant use the armor !

ALL the penalties apply normal !

My Herald RPGA number is 1212916949 and the name is Kanakis Konstantinos .

  • where do you find battlegrids?

  • @Turok9702 Hobby stores, online, office supplies stores

  • your cat was hunting for die before it got spotted

  • My friend has made us face the colossal dire tiger before, it killed all of our characters in one hit and then walked away to go jump on top of the fridge.

  • @runescape951230 Haha...why does that sound familiar to me...?

  • @repsesper Because a cat IS a familiar ;)

  • annother way to do zones is with pipecleaners

  • Thank you for the video! I just started DM'ing (and playing D&D for the first time) last month, and your tips have been super helpful. I managed to macguyver my own battlegrid out of shower board and plastic book covering, if you have the time and feel like a bit of construction.

In response to the question about power cards: If you download the official character builder from WotC, you can print a character sheet complete with the cards.

  • @glrebirth9 They're especially handy for newer players, since all the math, all the stat bonuses are calculated automatically for you. All you need to worry about is the die roll.

  • i bought almost everything i need to be a dm, but were do i get the cards players use for magic attacks and things like that? all i have got them from was the players handbook heroes boxes. And those 2 gave me 6 of those cards. do i even need more of them?

  • @donpatch42 You definitely do not need power cards, they might be helpful for newer players, but I don't know anyone who uses them.

  • damn i need to try this game out sumday or join a dungeons and dragons club

  • great video! i use dungeon tiles but i love the ideas for outdoor places thx!

  • Really good video. Just a tip since you use a laptop, you should think of using some monster sounds from d&d games (NWN1/2, baldurs gate etc.) they really help set the mood and are great for moments like "You hear a echo in the cave" or "As you listen through the door you hear..".

  • @jewishninja13 I actually have done that before, and it was a neat element. For one of the main villains of my current campaign, I even recorded some evil monologues he delivered, and they were quite wicked sounding.

  • cute cat lol. and awesome tips

  • I love your videos. You have helped me a lot since I am new to D&D, and learning all by myself. I was wondering if you could help me with a question I have. I don't understand how to deal 1d2 or 1d3 damage. (my gf's character is a half-elf monk, and has shurikens in her arsenal that do 1d2 damage) Do I flip a coin for 1d2? I am really confused. I know the minimum is 1 point of damage if a penalty exceeds 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • @AccretiveProduct Do it however you want to, really. Flip a coin or just have odd numbers be 1 and evens be 2. For a d3, just use a d6: 4=1, 5=2, 6=3. Or order a d3 off the internet. In 4e, there are no d2s or d3s (shuriken is d4, for example).

  • @AccretiveProduct

    1d2(flip a coin or use 1d4 and 1,3=1 // 2,4=2) for a 1d3 use the 1d4 4 is a reroll.

thats what I tell my players.

  • Where do you get your roleplaying music? I think it could really enhance the game. :D

  • @mrkonor Check out my Examiner articles (links in vid descriptions), I have two articles about gaming music/tips to enhance your game. I also make some of my own music.

  • where you from repsesper lmao I always am forced to DM cause people around here like playing but I wanna play :c

  • Here's another cool tool that you can use. If you are missing a few dice, and if you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you can get an app called dynamicdice, which has all seven dice programed into it. It uses 3d graphics and a cool physiscs engine that makes the dice roll seem authentic.

  • @samscuba1104 My good friend has that app, and I must say it is really cool.

  • Also another thing to try is gridless battles; whenever my friends and I get together we use our grids only sparingly, since not using them provides quite a bit more of a creative range of what we'd like to do. Usually the players end up deciding what the environment's like as much as the DM!

  • dude ur videos are awsome and help full im first time dming i got my friends to gether but ive been haveing a hell of a time geting stuff ready for play u help alot now i just have to buy that grid papper

  • @swordplay4 Many thanks, and I'm glad the videos are helping. I do recommend some sort of grid paper, I use it all the time, both for reusable random encounter maps and for specific campaign encounter areas.

  • The "Cat," (C. Dire Tiger) rubbed the Mini's with Scent.....Love the office Depot Giant outdoor map.... Love the Music Idea.... Use Itune of Final Fantasy & Star Wars Hype the players up

  • i like the music idea, i haven't thought about that yet; thanks!

  • nice videos they're alot of help cuz i havent got 4e D&D yet ive got pretty much the first ever D&D so yeah thanks

  • These are some amazing tips, due to lack of people to do it I am stepping into DM. These are great tips, I already have the re-drawable mat. But those paper ones are an awesome idea. I predraw on graph paper now, but I know people will enjoy a premade awesome drawing.

  • @zaduma Thanks for the great comment. And yes, it is great when the party gets into an encounter and I don't have to spend 5-15 minutes drawing the encounter map. Plus, they get to enjoy something that has more artistic quality.

By the way, have you subscribed?

  • Is the cat included in the PHB?

  • @oghmaosiris No, he comes from the miniatures set "Feline Fiends and Sleeping Beasties".

  • Is it fine to have pre drawn dungeons? or is it against the rules.

  • @peterchamp Oh I "pre-draw" dungeons all the time. In other words, draw them before the actual game session.

  • Thanks that was realy helpful for me to starting out.

  • one of the teachers at my school could draw a real good map in like 1-5 mins

  • I rarely suscribe to anything, but you just earned it. =)!

  • I have the same calculator. haha.

  • The cat is very important!

  • Ok! Thanks! Then i know exactly the plase to go...

  • So... You can buy the mat i some game stores... Does game stop and game work well? (from Sweden) and by the way your "Island of horns" is great! Cant Wait until the next 1 comes! Keep it up!

  • I've never seen a GameStop that sells tabletop products. Just go to a hobby store or order one online.

  • Very well explained. Keep it up =)

  • You've just earned yourself a sub. I've been trying to get into DnD for a while, but I'm just now getting serious about it. Your videos help alot.

  • I'm glad, I enjoy the game immensely, so I try to share that with others.

  • One quick question.

How do I find people in my area that play? I've got one friend that's interested but has never played. I've been to the game shops, but everyone there is playing other pen and paper/board games.

  • Games shops are among the best places. Good games shops will have a forum (usually some sort of pin-board) for advertising either games or a search for a gamer group.

However, check for local games groups (like D&D Meet-up), that might be found through Google or other social sites, such as Facebook. Look-out for local events for your fave game, as well, where you can meet peeps or just get your gaming addiction satiated for a couple weeks =)

Best of luck, and mind the Reavers!

  • Thanks, I'll look for the nearest shop.

    Keelah Sa'lai.

  • Hey great tips i really like them. I also like the giant 1 inch grid sheet.. Speaking of that you should totally make a video on different types things you can draw on there like trees rocks things like that would help..

  • I actually have plans to do such a video.

  • all your vids are realy good =) the cat thing was funny!

  • sexy maps

  • lol kool the cat the big boss lol

  • So im making a fighter who dual wields in 4e. Without the martial characters guide, how can i do this?

  • Some good ideas would be to take the Two Weapon Fighting feat and Two Weapon Defense Feat. I would also recommend getting Weapon Proficiency (bastard sword), and consider multi-classing Ranger. Dragonborn, Human, and Elf would be good race choices. Focus on keeping your Strength and Dexterity as high as possible, Wisdom and Constitution will help to a lesser extent. Take powers that focus on mobility, such as Passing Attack, and those geared for multiple blade attacks, such as Rain of Blows.

  • looking for people in san anto

  • My players are going to face the colossal dire tiger next time!

  • That will be an epic fight. I heard that monster can knock you out of the world, into the plane of Dusty Carpet.

  • If your a dm who cant really draw does it matter or is it better to be a good drawing but no matter how bad or good it is as long as we have something to visualize? Is what im trying to say is, is it beter to be a better drawer or not because in your island of horn videos you have good drawing.

  • A steady hand to draw dungeons or basic maps definitely helps. However, if you can't draw well it's not a big deal.

  • Thanks for these great videos. They're educational.

Basic question: what should I look for (or avoid) when shopping for dice? Are some materials or manufacturers better than others? I don't want any dice that are weighted unevenly, or anything. And the easier to read the better.

    Thanks in advance.

  • You are very welcome. I doubt you will get weighted dice (unless you specifically search for them). So, just get whichever ones you like the best (color, designs, readability, etc.)

  • id love to play D&D with you, you seem like an awesome dungeon master XD shame that will never happen lol. im a great roleplayer yet iv never actully played D&D, im wasting my talents! D:

  • Thank you, that means a lot to me. You should find a group!

  • if i could XD as far as i know the only group even close to D&D would be a warhammer club lol

  • Where there's a will, there's a way.

  • @mullins96 You're looking for a group?

You can use the OpenRPG program to find a group. I'll be starting a group soon. Join if your want.

  • @ mtgPitare id like that, depends on where you live XD im in uk bristol and not really in the mood to travel just to play D&D
