I just got my OWC USB3 OTG BUNDLE w/1.0TB 5400RPM Sams. And I did the same exact steps in this video and when I booted up my mac, it gave me a blinking folder with a question mark. Please help me!!!
@ginosucks The blinking folder with the question mark is the MBP looking for the operating system. We suggest transferring your data before performing the installation. If you've done that, then the system should find the OS on your new drive and continue booting. To get rid of the folder on future boots, go to "System Preferences > Startup Disk" and choose your new drive as the startup disk. If you hadn't transferred, use your system disks to format the drive, install the OS, then migrate data.
@Highlander01 The maximum capacity of the drive at this point is going to be as large of a capacity that is available (and will be for quite some time) as the SATA bus can accept drives with petabytes of data. The only other aspect of the drive that needs consideration is the physical dimensions of the drive. The Unibody 2008/2009/2010 MacBook Pro models can accept a standard 2.5" form factor drive up to 12.5mm thick.
thanks for this useful video. I recently purchased a 240 gb OWC Mercury Extreme SSD for my MacBook Pro and was rather nervous about installing it myself so it was great to see a guided tour of the process.
I placed the SSD in the supplied SATA enclosure and cloned the hard drive with SuperDupa and then installed it as per your instructions.
@09mmpistol Yes, a new drive will have to be formatted and the operating system installed. We recommend transferring the data from your old drive to your new drive before installation.
@Dataline The plastic tab is simply used to aid in removal of the hard drive. Without it, it is more difficult to lift the drive out of it's location.
Installing the upgrades in and of themselves does not void Apple's warranty. HOWEVER, the warranty does not cover any damages that may result from doing so and physically damaging the computer will void the warranty.
What happen if you get a small SSD drive. Do you put in the bracket and then install it? (I never own any mac.. just wondering.) Learning new stuff =). Like a OCZ Vertex 2 drive. That is smaller than the SSD you just put in.
@1337sweden yes...realized that...thanks for pointing out...working through some production time issues...regardless of drive shown, installation is still the same.

When will we have a password app for the AES?
andreipetunin 1 year ago
@andreipetunin No password app for the AES is in development as no access to the low level BIOS is needed to enable the self-encryption.

Does anyone know what the max capacity of HDD this Macbook will take? I'm led to believe its 500GB?

@OWCmacsales Thank you for the info. So it's pretty safe to say I'd be ok with a 500GB-1TB 2.5" hard drive that's no more than 12.5mm thick?

@Highlander01 Absolutely.

The MacBook pro comes with operating system disk?
Maximo121091 1 year ago
Now if you don't transfer your data do you have to reinstall the 10.6.3 snow lep ? Or that's not needed ?
Maximo121091 1 year ago
@Maximo121091 Correct. If you are not copying over the previous hard drive as suggested, then you would have to install an operating system.

But what's up with this " plastic cap"?? is this to prefent harddisk noise? Looks like a simple piece of tape to me XD

@orioncheung OCZ Vertex 2 is the same physical size as the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD used in the filming of this video.
