true--im sure the planning would be expensive----i have a 40 acre lot in the mohave desert and have about 10 acres of hill side and that would be my dream home style---
@hermancando, Dear Hermy, The Stahl house is tiny but has big views. you could build a better place than this on your large site. . This house is only great because of the view and that Los Angeles doesn't have many houses with uninterupted panoramic views. . Compared with say, Sydney or Hong Kong. . You know this Stahl house is rentable by the week? You could stay and find out its downsides. . Cheers. from, del-boy.
I enjoy this home and modern design, but I also enjoy the warmth and comfort an antique exterior/interior brings. Much older styles (pre-victorian) such as Palladian, Georgian etc have a very modern esthetic and yet have a patina of comfort and invitation I feel a house of glass walls and concrete floors could never match. I hope there won't ever be just ONE architectural style anywhere, how horrid!
Yes.. that was how houses SHOULD have been built, MODERN..!! Alas.. the vast greedy capitalists in construction related industries saw no future in using concrete, glass & steel.. because they last.. and last and.. ah well.. Then too, the paint & wallpaper industry.. and on & on it goes..
"Greedy capitalists"? More like the market responding to consumer demand and popular taste. You can't force advanced design on a public that doesn't want it.
And, in fact, much of today's residential construction does use structural steel, reinforced concrete, and modern materials that weren't even dreamed of when the Case Study houses were built. It's just that most homes still have a traditional exterior appearance.
