well i gota say im with crankin on this, and CH being more talented then ratm? whoa! tom morello is 1 of todays best guitarists, and harvard educated. CH knew what they were getting into.

i have to disagree. Rage have Talent sure, and Morello is a good guitarist, but it's not hard to recreat the 'rage sound' with drop D tuning and a boss GT-8. whereas it's very difficult to harmonise vocally the way that CH do and the amount of improvisation that goes into a CH show is amazing. Every member of CH is a multi-instrumentalist, which has gotta count for something :P.

I also think that Neil is a superior songwriter to Zach, it's not hard to be political and sound intelligent, you only have to walk around a university and listen to all the psuedo communist wankers misquoting Marx. This is not, however, to say that Rage aren't a good band, they're very good at what they do but i honestly think that CH are musically better.

And that day at coachella it was rage fans stakingout a place in the front, while crowded house fans were in the back. rage fans prefer a heavier type of music then CH.

However, I've always believed it's much much harder to write a pop song that everyone loves, across social and ethnic class, across national and imaginary borders...that's why CH are the better band.

It's not hard to scream and 'rage' to big distorted power chords whilst quoting marx and engels badly in half-spoken 'raps'.

I am a huge fan of RATM and CH. People don't see the common thread, which is sad but I guess understandable.

I don't think this was a very good gig from Crowded House either, which isn't going to help. Neil sounds nervous and like he's anxious to please, not quite backing himself.

I remember when I was in highschool, half of the kids who liked Nirvana liked them as a "heavy" band, along with Metallica etc. They didn't really get Nirvana. I reckon a lot of RATM fans don't get RATM either.

I felt sorry for Crowded house. After being in the pit for five hours, with no water in 105 degree weather and not even being to move your arms freely because of all the people crammed in there, fighting there way to the front for rage, the LAST thing we needed was this slow ass music.

It was just the wrong stage, at the wrong time for Crowded House.

I heard about this incident on an interview with Neil...someone showed him a youtube video, which I suspect is this one, and he's right, it was a pretty impressive shot :) major props to him and the band for handling it so well too. When I saw the lineup for this festival ,it seemed like an odd pairing. In addition to being one of the best songwriters around, Neil Finn also showed he is one of the classiest as well.

This made me extremely upset. I am a fan of RATM and CH, and it shows how immature people can be. I don't care if the band you love is hours later-show the bands before them the respect they deserve, especially CH. The problem was, Rage was playing 2 bands later. Their music is fine, but not when you are ready to go crazy at a Rage show. There was already extreme violence occuring in the crowd before they started, they should have expected things being thrown. I am suprised flags weren't being burned already. Manu Chao cleaned up Crowded Houses act very well, anti-Bush acoustic jam! I blame the organizers for putting Crowded House in this position, not the fans.

Fact: Things like this happen, especially with such an energy barrier between the performer and the crowd. Unfortunately, the organizers were asking for trouble putting a soft band with a violent crowd.
