Sorry, but seems to me that Rage fans are fucking brainless.Funny to know that Rage are a leftist band, and left-wing guys are supposed to be more tolerant to different things, things like Crowded House. And why the fuck the asshole who uploaded this vid wrote in his comment that a true artist being hitted by a bottle is "absolutely hilarious"?
I'm not a fan of Rage Against The Machine, but that doesn't mean i'm going to go to their concert and throw a bottle at their lead singer just because i like softer music than the kind he sings. Can't people just agree to disagree?
Rage is a nostalgia act. Just reuniting to put on shows, can't even so much as put a new album together because they've got nothing left in them!
Yeah, they were great in their day - emphasis on WERE. Give me a band that can still produce great music over a band that can only relive past triumphs.
The problem is that the moron who threw the bottle was probably three years old when the song came out in 1987 and has never heard of Crowded House. What a shocking display of ignorance and bad manners.
Rage Against The Machine SUCKS and the piece of garbage that threw that bottle should have gotten the shit kicked out of them. That crowd did not deserve to have the opportunity to see Crowded House which is one of the most amazing bands on the planet. However, Neil Finn handled the situation like a pro and I give him much credit for continuing to play to those low-life scum suckers.
Im sure the dickhead RATM shit for brains jackass who threw that bottle at Neil knows that what goes around comes around!!!! RATM sucks major donkey dick & so does their lame ass whiney-ass fans---PISS OFF fuckers---NEIL you are the MAN!!!! WE LOVE YOU XOXOXOX
well i gota say im with crankin on this, and CH being more talented then ratm? whoa! tom morello is 1 of todays best guitarists, and harvard educated. CH knew what they were getting into.
i have to disagree. Rage have Talent sure, and Morello is a good guitarist, but it's not hard to recreat the 'rage sound' with drop D tuning and a boss GT-8. whereas it's very difficult to harmonise vocally the way that CH do and the amount of improvisation that goes into a CH show is amazing. Every member of CH is a multi-instrumentalist, which has gotta count for something :P.
I also think that Neil is a superior songwriter to Zach, it's not hard to be political and sound intelligent, you only have to walk around a university and listen to all the psuedo communist wankers misquoting Marx. This is not, however, to say that Rage aren't a good band, they're very good at what they do but i honestly think that CH are musically better.
rage sound. just look at tom's solos and some of the guitars he has in his arsenal, and the solos he does live sound better then the ones in the originals. And that day at coachella it was rage fans stakingout a place in the front, while crowded house fans were in the back. rage fans prefer a heavier type of music then CH.
hence, the bottle throwing and booing at the front near the stage where i was. manu chao came out of no where though and really pumped up the crowd rite before rage which was cool. good do0d.
It's a matter of taste. If you like big dumb three-chord agit-rawk, or are a 15 year old male who lives in the suburbs ( I was one myself), then yes, RATM are like the coolest band ever, and TM is the best guitarist, and ZDLR is the coolest che disciple, et all.
However, I've always believed it's much much harder to write a pop song that everyone loves, across social and ethnic class, across national and imaginary borders...that's why CH are the better band.
It's not hard to scream and 'rage' to big distorted power chords whilst quoting marx and engels badly in half-spoken 'raps'.
It is hard to make everyone in a crowded room smile.
RATM should have chastized their "fans" for that nonsense. that they didn't is a penultimate example of what douchebags they've become.
Still, it's awesome reading post-coachella interviews with NF and the band...they knew what they were in for, but went ahead anyway.
and, when the S**t hit the fan (so to speak) NF was a consumate pro and a gentleman. I wonder, if the situation were reversed, what morello or Zach would've done???
That was the worst bit of disrespect from any fan. Throwing a bottle up on stage with intention to hurt neil finn was immature and trust me...we know who you are. It wasn't right and the person who threw that should know that Rage against the machine have as much tallent as the fan who committed that attrocity. And just to prove that, RATM are as remembered as many one hit wonder bands.
so crankin125 thought it was hilarious huh?...riiiiight
as for RATH fams. As already stated, CH are fuckin gods compared to the shit you listen to and have more talent than you have ever seen in a lifetime.
I am a huge fan of RATM and CH. People don't see the common thread, which is sad but I guess understandable.
I don't think this was a very good gig from Crowded House either, which isn't going to help. Neil sounds nervous and like he's anxious to please, not quite backing himself.
I remember when I was in highschool, half of the kids who liked Nirvana liked them as a "heavy" band, along with Metallica etc. They didn't really get Nirvana. I reckon a lot of RATM fans don't get RATM either.
I felt sorry for Crowded house. After being in the pit for five hours, with no water in 105 degree weather and not even being to move your arms freely because of all the people crammed in there, fighting there way to the front for rage, the LAST thing we needed was this slow ass music.
It was just the wrong stage, at the wrong time for Crowded House.
"Most political band to ever come out." Hahahahahaaaa... right. My son is delusional. He has never spoken to Tom Morello, nor did he even go to Coachella because he's not allowed to use the car right now. Sorry.
hey mommy i haven't seen you since the social worker took me away from you after you fisted my asshole until blood shot allover the place. it is so good to hear from you. you will be happy to hear i now have a son and i too fuck the shit out of him...just like mommy taught!!!
guess what, i went backstage after the rage performance, and i talked to morello about the "bottle" incident. he said "what the fuck do you expect would happen, we are the most political band to ever come out; and you get those 1980's losers to try and stop the rage revolution, coachella was fucking stupid." swear to god that is what he said.
Zack must be so proud of his accomplishments: He helped to sell a million Che Guevera t-shirts and now sings for $ $ $ in front of a bunch of idiot jocks who prob don't even know who's running for president. Viva la revolution, indeed.
come on people, everyone knows that crowded house just got in the way of the revolution at coachella. rage was in prime form, and you think rage fans were bad, should have been at coachella last year when tool reunited. that was a mess.....i fuck my mom
I heard about this incident on an interview with Neil...someone showed him a youtube video, which I suspect is this one, and he's right, it was a pretty impressive shot :) major props to him and the band for handling it so well too. Still, shouldn't have happened...throwing stuff's not gonna make the band you want to see come on earlier. Get over it and grow up.
I dont like generalizing but RATM fans are ball cap wearing, jock frat boy, scumbags. There are so many bad ones that they give the good ones a bad name and always will.
I thought when Limp Bizkit broke up we were finally rid of this sickening behavior at Festivals.
Neil Finn has more talent in his pinky finger than the collective sum of all RATM fans put together.
Thing I don't like..as far as I know..Zak never said anything onstage like "That wasn't cool to throw something at Neil"...no mention of it,as far as I know...
Had it been the other way round..you can bet Neil would have said something!
But,what do Rage fans know?...they just lived up to their name...
What makes you think Zak knew anything about it? And I didn't hear anyone booing Willie. It seemed like he was one of the more well recieved performers of the day.
When I saw the lineup for this festival ,it seemed like an odd pairing. In addition to being one of the best songwriters around, Neil Finn also showed he is one of the classiest as well.
This made me extremely upset. I am a fan of RATM and CH, and it shows how immature people can be. I don't care if the band you love is hours later-show the bands before them the respect they deserve, especially CH. Whether or not you are a fan, it is some of the most intelligent music out there... and stands the test of time compared to "F*** you, I won't do what you tell me"... when really, you are doing exactly what Zack wants you to do in replying back. And crankin125, grow up. Honestly.
The problem was, Rage was playing 2 bands later. Their music is fine, but not when you are ready to go crazy at a Rage show. There was already extreme violence occuring in the crowd before they started, they should have expected things being thrown. I am suprised flags weren't being burned already. Manu Chao cleaned up Crowded Houses act very well, anti-Bush acoustic jam! I blame the organizers for putting Crowded House in this position, not the fans.
I completely agree that it was wrong to throw the bottle, in no way am I deeming it a proper act, but people will do stupid things as a crowd, and I don't want Rage fans to be summarized as bottle-throwing dicks. Fact: Things like this happen, especially with such an energy barrier between the performer and the crowd. Unfortunately, the organizers were asking for trouble putting a soft band with a violent crowd.
Neil Finn is a legend. Zack De La Wanka and his homies aren't worthy to lick the dirt off his shoe. Rage had a great debut album and have sucked balls since. [Some] RAGE fans are morons too, as indicated by the idiotic uploader's comments here.
After the solo, he improvised the lyrics "No the bottle never hurt me, no it never put me off". A nice burst of humor amidst an embarrassing situation. By the by, whoever decided to open Rage with House is an idiot, and did a great disservice to both bands, and their fans.
New Flash: Inspired Rage fans finally kick-off the revolution! um, by throwing a bottle at crowded house. well done, comrades. you really changed the world.
RATM finally kicked off another revolution to destroy the establishment. and to comemorate that event they signed up with a major record label... again.
That lead singer's name is Neil Finn and in my opinion he is one of the best and most respected songwriters on this planet.
RATM fans, you're not helping yourselves or your band by not only throwing the bottle, but thinking it was the right thing to do, and you must have known that there were gonna be other bands on the stage.
You don't have to like the music, just show some respect.
how is it funny that Neil got hit? I guess living in your parent's basement and hanging out at the kwicky mart gives you a little too much time on your hands to ruin a much more talented band's set (see Neil respond with classy, "fuck you, didn't phase me", and go on with the show!!!!

Yeah, it's areal shame that all the early promise of RATM has festered into this INSANE lapse of logic...a revolution for 400 bucks a ticket?
