Im a mechanic and i do MOTs, most of the cars that i do the emissions test on that are 10 years old ie R, S, T, V reg have CO content of 0.01%. the same as a new car so your point is very good its a waste and causes more pollution than it saves!! thank good its now come to an end. good vid!

my work truck is a ford f-250 with a 460 gasoline powered engine its so bad on gas that i honestly cannot afford to drive it other than for work and work only. It gets anywhere from 8 to 10 miles per gallon of gas depending on if its city driving or highway driving. The USA says theyre going to fix this with new hybrid vehicles and new low consumption gasoline engines in all our upcoming vehicles!!!! what the hell am i supposed to do , i cannot afford to buy a new car and gas is 2.89 a gallon

I could not agree with you more! The scrappage scheme is an absolute joke, it is actually the opposite of geen - two things about the scrappage scheme which are BAD for the environment.....scrapping old cars, and building new cars! My year 2000 Rover 45 1.8 has now done 135k miles and it still drives nice, reliable etc. etc. by far better than any 107 or aygo or kia!

my now 14 year old car, gets 50MPG looks great no dents, cost me £750 new probably worth around the same now as there are so few of them about, drives great and costs about £300 a year to service a year.

my motorbike a cg125 gets 100MPG cost £300 and is serviced by me, its also 15 years old.

Diesel cars release sulpher dioxide which gives kids cancer and other lung problems and you have got diesel soot and other problems , petrol cars are 'greener'

Do you know what i think on this scrappage sheme is that if ie:someone scrapped their car and had £2000 off a new car, where do they think that they are going to get the extra £7000 or whatever it is to join this scheme when they can just about afford the old cars that already have.

answers on a post card please. Make that a stamp which is probaly the size of brain the person who thought up the idea has.

Scrap yards used to be great places, and what could be better than taking a needed part from a dis-used motor than buying a new part?

However, things have changed, too many rules these days, certainly here anyway, no longer are you allowed to get your hands dirty, instead the do it all themselves and charge too much cash, and then crush the rest of the motor reguardless of it being finished in dismantling.

i prefer older cars, especially the vauxhall astra and cavalier... nice cars, lovely comfy seats as well... these new cars are all crap and are all rounded to make it look "nicer" looks like ass
