personally i like silats' use of the karambit a little better because its so fluid and flowing that before you know what hit you, youve been cut and sliced like 20 times :)

@1fightforright23 Ed Parker was a student of Kempo. When he devleoped American Kenpo it changed so the "M" to an "N" thus Kenpo, yes a Japanese based system. The Karambit is Indosesian/Malasian in roots. Kenpo Karambit is the Karambit use utilizing the movements and principles of Ed parker Kenpo Karate. Nothing more... Karambit is not Japanese weapon, correct..
@1fightforright23 I do Wing Chun and the Karambit fits well with many arts. Most arts these days have mixed other things into their arts. He probably had other training as many martial artists have. I did some TKD before starting Wing Chun many I train with have Jujitsu or Karate training. We mix things up it's good training. It's not a traditional Japanese weapon they are just throwing in. I will mix anything I think is valid into my training using my own art as a base.

@cockeatter Your a bit off. Im former officer. Police do not 'Shoot to Kill" they are trained to "Stop" the threat. There is a diference. For example:
A bad guy is comming at me with a knife, this is a deadly force encounter. Officers are trained to shoot center mass. If I hit the bad guy in the chest/gut area he may drop dead or he may fall down still alive. Either way the threat was "Stopped" Officer dont necessarily shoot to kill. They shoot to "Stop" the threat. Bad guy may live may die.
Ah, sorry for posting the same thing so many times, haha, but the karambit is a traditional Indonesian knife used in the many forms of Silat - collected as a whole they are known as Pencak Silat.
He explained what "flipping" is. You don't flip the karambit, thats just spinning it a bunch of times. You use the momentum to reach and extend for fast cuts with a further reach.
Deffinitely turned me onto the uses of a Karambit. Wish you guys had a place somewhere in IL, i'd love to take some personal classes with you guys. I ordered that DVD btw and i'm just waiting for it to come in. Great job and can't wait to start learning

I saw some where on the net when I was looking for a hand gun trainer,on this cop supplier sight that had all kinds of plastic bade trainers from a plastic box cutter to a plastic Karambit trainer
actually he SHOULD included a Karambit trainer with his DVD

Stupidity is, that the bad guys always know where to get THEIR weapons, so they`re always armed!! System punishes "normal" citizens for defending themselves but isn`t albe to fully protect them!!

Okay - let`s say I find somebody who teaches this to me here in Germany!! I buy a knife after the training and carry it with me where ever I go!! Then there will be this stupid grunt who starts a fight with me into a bar!! I pull my knife and slaughter him - which brings me 15 years into jail at least (german law)!! I don`t want to know what the punishment would be in the states!! So again - why EXACTLY should anybody learn this????

who said you had to kill him? Just because the drills have killing blows, it's still up to you to apply them. You could just cut inner muscles of the forearm or main muscles in the thigh to disarm/immobilize the guy. You almost have an immediate disarm within 2 beats of engaging anybody.

If someone is putting your life in danger,at least here in the United States your legal allowed to defend yourself using up to and including deadly force in the justice system its called a justifiable homicide.

Because in America we have a right to defend ourselves. If someone intends to do me [serious] harm I have the right to kill them. And by serious I mean permanent.

That's where you get me. I understand the right to defend yourself, but the response you give should be ramped up or down depending on the threat.
If someone comes up me slightly drunk and swings a punch, I'm not just going to kill the guy for that. If he comes up to me ready to kill me?. Yes I will cause damage, but only enough to destroy the threat.

@Southern661 you certain about what you are saying? yes, you (we) have the right to defend ourselves, but you (we) dont hava the right to kill. even police arent allowed to (seriously) harm or kill an evil doer, even the guilty ones. probably if you are part of the army or marines, you can do serious harm, i guarantee it. but, as a civilian? i dont think so. which part of america are you from anyway? which state?

If you or someone else is in danger of serious harm, my CCW training says I have the right to use deadly force to remove that danger. End of story, and most likely the assailant.

@selfdefense05 actually police are trained to shot to kill never to harm or subdue. if a police officer fires their weapon that officers direct intent is to kill the suspect. the reson for this is that a living suspect can change his story in court and make the cop the badguy even when the cops actions might have saved innocent lives. also a dead man cant shoot back

@cockeatter Your a bit off. Im former officer. Police do not 'Shoot to Kill" they are trained to "Stop" the threat. There is a diference. For example:
A bad guy is comming at me with a knife, this is a deadly force encounter. Officers are trained to shoot center mass. If I hit the bad guy in the chest/gut area he may drop dead or he may fall down still alive. Either way the threat was "Stopped" Officer dont necessarily shoot to kill. They shoot to "Stop" the threat. Bad guy may live may die.

Ah, sorry for posting the same thing so many times, haha, but the karambit is a traditional Indonesian knife used in the many forms of Silat - collected as a whole they are known as Pencak Silat.

He explained what "flipping" is. You don't flip the karambit, thats just spinning it a bunch of times. You use the momentum to reach and extend for fast cuts with a further reach.
