  • Hello from a new YL ham (hamlette?), getting my license next month. I'm looking to do HF portable using an Icom 706 MKIIG, so your video is much welcomed. Is that a 9ah battery? How many watts were you running here? Tnx and 73 for the inspiration.

  • Brilliant video, I am amateur too, good to see another YL flying the flag. I will definately have a go at this now.

  • That was neat. Sometimes other stuff comes up that you have to do so there isn't always time to pursue such a great hobby but I still have my ticket and will need to renew next spring and when you watch videos like this it really makes you remember why you got into the hobby in the first place. Also very cool to see a gal having a good time with a radio because it is presumed that the hobby is pretty much a guys thing and its not so very cool to see girls enjoy it too. Nice job Diana! • Hi Diana, very nice job, but need to ask about the battery pack. I really like to be outdoors when possible but not at this power level, just QRP. Please let me know more about. About the antenna, yes it can be use without ground, but an RF burn may be very bad and painful at this Power level. Best 73, Milton NP4KT.

  • Reminds me of our many biannual W2MX club outings in the Pine Barrens of NJ. We hung many wire antennas in trees using fishing weights. And we set up our boat-anchors in a small block building with our only accommodations a garden hose, AC mains, and a one seat outhouse. Still, we had a lot of fun, food and 807s culminating with a steak dinner Sunday before we broke camp. Those was some good memories enjoying no pressure contacts, mentoring newbies, and the fellowship of other hams. 73.

  • Excellent! Very nice QSO in HF Band!

  • Lucky Pierre !!!

    Nice job, Diana.

Sweet form putting up your antenna !!!

  • She has a par end- fedz antenna.

  • Diana has got some cool videos.

  • This is really concerning! Why would you take a radio to the woods and put up an antenna? Who are those people on the radio and why are you trying to contact them? What are all the code numbers for? this kilo charlie two uniform hotel bravo business, what does that mean? What purpose does all of this serve and why is it even legal? Why would you contact a complete stranger in Italy and give him your name? Doesn't that strike you as a bit worrisome?

  • @videovaultault It's nothing to be concerned about! This hobby has been going on for over 100 years now, it has a long and respected history. It's all in good fun!

  • @videovaultault The "code numbers" Were her call sign and name spelled out in the NATO phonetic alphabet. Delta India Alpha November Alpha = Diana. As far as talking to strangers in other countries, people do it on the Internet all the time. I would be more worried about strangers on the net than on HAM. I have picked up HAM on my scanner. Hams seem like nice people. I plan on getting my ham license at some point.

  • matt is wack

  • Are you using a Par End Fedz antenna? Awesome video!

  • wow yeah shes hot

  • Great video Diana. We hope to have the W7-Washington SOTA up and running this year so we can start activating the thousands of summits we have here. I will listen for your call. 73 NZ7B

  • this girl is so cute, me like

  • LOVED the video! But can you tell me what the make and model of the end-fed antenna is? It doesn't look home-brewed, but one never can tell.

  • Talking to some italians via radio in english is always a lol.

  • Hot and Smart! What are the odds.

  • Great video, thanks 73

  • Diana: You should have told Peter you were KC2UHB/QRP and your elevation! I guess you will if you qsl him. Let people know in your videos next time where hams such as IZ5MMB are located, in this case: Carrara Italy. (brag and inform your viewers a bit) Nice contact and signal report. Have fun QRPing.

  • Diana - who makes that battery pack? Do you have a link? I have been using a motorcycle battery. Thanks

  • how frequently??

  • Very nice 73 and dx

  • That's pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

  • Nice video. I was planning on getting the FT-817ND for this kind of work myself so any external battery packs were optional plus the challenge of QRP. Maybe one day we'll work each other.

  • Aloha

I use the Par End Fed antenna for 20 and 40 at my QTH. They work quite well. No RF in the shack if you have a good ground on your rig. No tuner needed if you tune the antenna out of the box. I think Diana was showing the ease of portable use while out hiking. 73 Cheers

  • Nice job Diana. I am starting to get motivated to get my general so I can get into the HF fun. How many watts were you operating?

  • BTW - this is so cool. Love the retro technology. It has something the internet lacks.

  • Why is this girl so adorable? I don't why, but she is.

  • great

  • That is so cool

  • Can someone tell me where can i buy a NiMH battery like the one in this video.

  • Great video! Did you see the smile on Diana's face when she got the 59 signal report. Keep the videos coming!

  • I just realized that the first sentence of my comment was unclear. by "it", I meant the video.

  • this is an awesome hobby. As mentioned before, it goes into the perfect depth of detail to get people interested.

This is really a great hobby. At first I was hesitant to get licensed but I'm glad I did. There's just so much to do; Satellites, HF, Digital modes, contesting, and just plain old talking about whatever.

You never know who you'll get to talk to when you switch on that radio.

  • Nice video Diana
