there were 500-600 competitors at the BJJ British Open this year, +300 at this No Gi event, 500+ at the Kent Open last year, with the Kent Open being held over 2 days this year, it will have possibly 600-800 competitors. I've not seen any judo competitions for many years, are they getting these sort of numbers?
You're right bjj can be boring to watch for people who don't understand but I don't think popularity has that much of an impact on which sports are in the olympics, walking is in the olympics! haha
@goldfinger123 the only people who watch many olympic sports are those that either do them or their friends and family.Its not like soccer,basketball,baseball ,tennis where many non players follow and enjoy it.

Can anyone explain the scoring system of BJJ tournaments like this? Like what a reversal is worth, what a takedown is worth, etc
Saforge 1 year ago
@Saforge
4 points – mount, back grab
3 points – passing the guard
2 points – take downs, sweeps and knee on the belly
-1, -2... - penalties
1, 2, 3... – advantages
^^ thats international scoring but other tournaments use various other methods of scoring
--------points only matter if a match goes to decision and does not end in a submission

@dumplord51 Just to clarify for anyone reading: You don't get 2 points forever for placing your knee on someones belly over and over again :P

Judo is an olympic stop; so it's obviously is more popular and people would preffer Judo for watch.
And one more thing : BJJ can look boring for people who dont understand, it look like is just 2 mans rubbing in the ground.
After met BJJ people naturally preffer BJJ :)
