  • So I'm assuming phenolphthalein was the indicator, but I can't work out what the other chemicals could be other then possibly Hydrochloric acid.

Perhaps a more indepth write up on how this was done would be awesome!

  • Please show me how to do this.

    victalm@hotmail.com

  • Magic!

  • great video

can u post how to did this so that i can show my class it!

  • Skits like this with no students present is one of the reasons school costs so much!

  • @VirtualPicker That makes no sense.

  • @VirtualPicker Obviously there were students. Didn't you hear the clapping?

  • Can you please tell me as a result of what did this happen?

What did you use? the reason i want to know is because i have a presentation on colors and i would like to present this experiment too.. but i really need to know how did this happen...

    Thanks

  • Sir, i'm a chemistry teacher too...please tell me how you did this sir...

  • WOW! I'm super amazed :) Paano to?

  • wonderful, you even made the song track, very fun, ans so commited,

if you make the flame test let me know

  • fucking tell me how to do that

  • How do u do that. Could you tell me.

  • how do u do that. Could you tell me.

  • it is very beautiful!!!!! I love it!!!!

Could you tell how to do this??

    thank you very much :)

  • WOW that was impressive ....would love to show the students. Could you also email me the prep and procedure. My addy is donna_watson@hccy.nsw.edu.au....Thanks

  • that is really nice with the music and so... .good performance

  • @jtgodbout

I love this demonstration and I want to show it to my students in real life. I have universal indicator (and also al the other indicators) but I want to know what kind of other solutions you use. Can you send me an email how you do it.

  • I can't stand this song

  • awesome demo

  • Nice!

  • oh my god so unbelievable!! cool!

  • this video the shit!!!!!!!

  • hello! I'd really like to know which chemicals and reagents you used in this experiment, could you tell me how you did this? Thanks! :)

  • Hi, listen, I have a chemistry assignment and it has to be this one. Can you please tell me how you did it?

  • Nultralisation?

  • this is so cool i hope i do this kind of stuff in chemistry next year

  • I love how the soundtrack went with the experiment. GOOD JOB!

  • Hi, I'm currently doing a Chemistry project which requires us to do a chemistry demonstration. So I was wondering if you could let me know how exactly to carry this demonstration out. Thanks:)

  • We are trying to make a similar presentation at our school. Would you be so kind as to let me know which of those indicators turn which color? Also, if we were to mix the green and red mixtures, would they produce a clear mixture?

  • THAT WAS AMAZING!

I will buy your magic muppet miracle elixir sir!

You've sold me! But about that Rolex...

  • Love the goggles

  • I love you, Science Dude.

  • that is awesome

i love it when you pour everything together :)

  • Yeah.

There was a different indicator in each beaker prior to him adding the substance into each beaker. The indicators all turn dfferent colors based on their chemical makeup, which explains ther different colors. (i.e. phenolphthalein turns pink, while others may turn green, blue, etc.)

  • It's cool. I love this experiment.

  • I Loved It!! Make your own rainbow, Way to cool, Amazing. WTG! Your a Magical Scientist!! Not to many can brag about that.

  • Very cool vid!

    5*

    :3

  • hohohohohoho is he a magician?

    are those safe to drink?

  • He's not a magician, just a scientist. A very cool scientist! :D

He has used acids and alkalis, but to make them coloured he used a universal indicator.

And they are NOT safe to drink, you would probably die or be very ill if you drank them.

  • That was pHantastic!

  • good one...

  • LOL!

  • cool.

  • universal indicator rock! but i thought when the pH level was netral (7) it turned like green or something how did you make it transparent?

  • that was actually kinda cool, i dont like sience but the colors are petty

  • what song was that?

  • rainbow connection by kirmit the frog

  • what song was that?

    -_-

did you ever have a childhood?

  • just type in rainbow connection, there are write ups on how to do this

  • cool

  • im gonna be a chemist when i grow up

  • Wonderful!

Please teach me how to do!

  • Man i loved doin titration...i loved the different shaped apparatus we used in the lab...the muffet song is lovely too

    Chemistry ROCKS!!

  • That was great!!!!

  • I like the finish.

  • O-O.....wooooooohhhhh......

...i wish we did that in chem class.

  • nice

we did a similar thing in our A level class (without muppets soundtrack though lol)

    twas pretty cool

    :D

  • What?! Huh?! How?! But WHY?!

the color! Where did all the color go?!

Two words for you, sir... flippin' sweet!

  • Here's how it works: The jars in the front appear to be empty, but in reality they each have a dried substance in them, a refined mixture of chemical dyes. When he adds the first solution, it's just alcohol, does nothing. the second is acidic, which makes the dyes turn color depending how how acidic/how much solution. The second is basic, which reacts with the acid and makes it 'neutral', making the dyes not work.

  • good indicator magic..

do you Know where can I find a Natural indicator that get red in acidic solution?

  • I think he used Universal Indicator... It should range from red in acids to green in neutral pH to violet in alkalis. You can get Universal Indicator from most lab supply companies. He basically did it by adding a certain amount of conc acid first then adding approximate amts of a dil base till he got the colour he wanted. Don't really need a lab protocol. You can experiment till u get the amts u need

  • how....on earth....??

  • sweet!

  • I teach high school chem, I was wondering if I could get the lab procedure? Thanks for posting this!

  • THAT WAS REALLY COOL

  • wa...all chemistry teacher...i only student...

  • I always show this clip to my students prior to performing a neutralisation reaction. Brilliant clip, brilliant learning resource, brilliant sense of humour and timing. Thank you for posting this.

  • could I get the procedure also? I'd love to demonstrate it to an elementary school class! email is wpemberton@cox.net

  • can you send me info on how to do this to samuel.garcia@slcc.edu

  • Courtjasper,

If you give me an non-youtube email, I can send you a complete prep and procedure for this.

  • can u send it to me also?

  • I was just dinking around looking at the james gang and led zepplin videos on U tube and somehow stumbled onto you stuff.WOW how friggin cool is that! If I had a teacher like you when I was in school I probbly would have stayed in instead of dropping out (1972) hence looking at james gang and zep . I just wanted to say thanks and now I have to try to stumble on more special stuff like yours . In AWe

  • @jtgodbout I just watched this demonstration and wanted to know if you could send me the procedure by email. carla.goodine@mail.mcgill.ca . My students would loooove this :)

  • @jtgodbout

please teach me how to did this okay?....please~~~~~

  • that was very nice, i would like to show that to my classmates, how was it done?

  • that was a lot of reagents right there. haha. good job! i like the music too! :D

  • Neat. Stuff like that is why chemistry is my favorite subject.

  • lol nice glasses

  • O.O what I don't understand is he uses the same base liquid from the bottle, and the same reactant from the jug - both approximately in the same quantities. Was there something else at the bottom before you began? How did you manage the different colors if you're using everything from the same bottles/ jugs? O.O bravo!

  • ya there is a mixture of different indicators, ie substances that turn different colors whether they are in acids or bases

  • yea could you tell me too what chemicals were used and what exactly u did? im curious

  • hey that wa cool!

  • Hi there, i'm a chemistry teacher and i really like to demonstrate that to my students! What chemicals are you using again? Did you include buffers solutions? Thanks!

  • that was awesome i loved it when all the colours changed haha yeah i also love the backround music

  • what chemials are you using?
