  • I am also a plus sized momma and my daughter had shoulder dystocia as well. She broke her collar bone on the way out. But unlike you, I have a low pain threshold and opted for the epidural. I had to have pitocin because my water broke before I really had any strong contractions and was only at 1 cm. But listening to your story brought back memories and a few tears.

  • @sboartfield77 this made me tear up! the more i know about shoulder dystocia the more i don't want to know :( very scary. I am going to be nervous for future deliveries

  • I have watched many birth stories on Youtube, and but yours is truly genuine and moving!!! Congratulations, you both are beautiful!

  • @nawmmbr thank you very much :)

  • I feel so badly for mothers who get upset about not being able to follow their birth plans to the letter. Here she was upset about not having skin to skin or breastfeeding right away. The bottom line is that you want a baby and a baby, makes a mother! THAT STILL HAPPENS, SO RELAX!

  • @nawmmbr almost nothing went according to my plan which is to be expected haha. I would not trade bfing and skin to skin right away for her safety though.. it was just something i reallllyyy wanted but oh well - it was better to hear my baby cry her first cry! :)

  • Everything looked good today! Will be induced Friday if she doesn't come on her own. Do you have any suggestions for a "gentle" induction? Really hoping to avoid pit so I can walk.

  • @morganshank you can try what I had - membrane sweep then nip stim and walking. then if that doesn't work I had cervidil overnight and that got me to 9.9. If you get really close (like 9-9.5+) don't be afraid of pit like I was.. remember you are already THERE and if that pit can get you over the edge you are so close you cant get the epi anyways. so exciting!!!

  • Thanks for sharing your story! I'll be 41 weeks tomorrow, going in for my ultrasound and NST. If the baby doesn't come by Friday I will be induced, hoping to go on my own. If you have any suggestions please let me know! :)

  • @morganshank sounds so much like my story! be STRONG and surround yourself with support and people who won't mention pain meds. Everyone kept building me up and telling me what a great job i was doing and it made me keep going. I would have caved if I had not had such a good support system to keep me going. It will be hard but try to change positions frequently. don't be afraid to switch nurses if you don't click with your nurse - my nurses were GREAT and they really helped. Keep me updated mama

  • @morganshank oh you are a nurse! I am a medical assistant and my hubby is a physician so we knew kind of the ins and outs of the system like i'm sure you do. I think the more comfy you are with a medial surrounding the better educated you are obviously. still - don't be afraid to question or request things (like i kept requesting to get in the tub until i was ready enough to get in).
