Just a tip you could have done the yellow as your base coat then done clear polish in your design as a place holder then you would've seen the yellow through it
@RawwrrItsLaurie every polish dries at a different speed & those that dry fast just aren't very good for marbling - if you can't work any quicker then you have to find colors that dry slower =) Also make sure there's not a fan or anything creating a draft on the water as that can make the polish dry faster
how do you cut the tape off? and do you leave the tape that has the design on it on your nail? does it work w/o the tape ? i've never done this before!!
@chocochick5652 I cut just along the underside - the tape just goes around your cuticle, not on the nail - you can check out the taping tutorial under the Tips & Tricks playlist in the information box to see exactly how I apply & remove it =) you can skip the tape but it's much messier
@zannoli348 I've had a lot of practice. Are you using room temperature filtered water? Also keep in mind that not all polish works - the brand doesn't really matter but every color is different in the water & it just takes a lot of trial & error to find the ones that work well. You want one with good pigmentation, maybe a little on the thick side but thin enough to drip & above all slow-drying. HTH =)
Very pretty, I did my fist marbling las night and if it weren't for all the tutorials I wouldn't have got it. It's messy but love the results. Thanks for the tutorial.
@MarshmallowAwesome I've never been a nail biter - I keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I also take a biotin supplement – check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can check out my tutorial on silk wrap patching for how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog every month or so where I talk more about like all the specific products I'm currently using.
@SimpleLittlePleasues Well, I've tried a lot of methods. For example, covering my nails with scotch tape so I won't bite them, putting on a nail polish that helps nails grow, etc. But nothing seems to work?
@johnny23ful Are you using room temperature filtered water? Also keep in mind that not all polish works - the brand doesn't really matter but every color is different in the water & it just takes a lot of trial & error to find the ones that work well. I love your water marbling work! You inspired me, to try it and if my I ever need to show anyone water marbling tutorials, I definitley tell them yours are the best and they should look them up!
@herecomeseveningstar a base color helps the marble colors be more opaque & vibrant =) I experiment beforehand & usually use either white or one of the colors from the design.
i am trying my best to be honest, its month now and still struggling to get it perfect....i am so gutted cause seem very easy but it became impossible to achieve.....maybe its the water...don't know what to think anymore...i wont stop trying though...
@79nunzia while you can use any brand, not every color works - each one is different in the water & it just takes a lot of trial & error to find the ones that work well. You want one with good pigmentation, maybe a little on the thick side but thin enough to drip & above all slow-drying. HTH =)
Thanks for the tip I've been having the same problem and put it down to the water or down to me just not doing it right, will keep trying different combinations, thanks again, love your vids :o)
so pretty! I saw some of your other videos, and i had never heard of water marble, so thank you! do you think you waste a lot of nail polish with this method?
@xXAllyShadowXx it does use more than a normal manicure, but it's worth it =) & I have plenty to spare LOL - but if you are concerned, depending on the design you are going for you can dip 2 or 3 fingers at a time to save polish.
I may sound dumb for asking, but is the nail polish dry once you take your finger out of the water? Or do you have to wait for it to dry just like if you painted your nails normally?
@99i99i There really isn't a best brand, every color is different in the water & it just takes a lot of trial & error to find the ones that work well. You want one with good pigmentation, maybe a little on the thick side but thin enough to drip & above all slow-drying. HTH =)
@DoubleFrigginRainbow not all polish will work, it sounds like yours is drying too fast - it just takes a lot of trial & error to find the ones that work well. You want one with good pigmentation, maybe a little on the thick side but thin enough to drip & above all slow-drying. HTH =)
@Bahijeh234 the yellow was not dry when I dripped then 2nd color - it just wouldn't move =) It does use more polish than a normal manicure, but I have plenty to spare LOL
@Reesie0610 no - although you will probably never get all the polish off the glass, so don't choose a good one =) Just don't use styrofoam as polish will dissolve it!
@anaandrade96 if you are using filtered water, the only other solution is just to keep trying different polishes - every color is different in the water & some work better than others =)
@Jazzie21569 I've never been a nail biter, but I know there are some products you can put on your nails that make them taste bad - also if you start to keep them painted, I think you would not want to ruin all your hard work =)
Although again, I don't have any personal experience, I don't think most fake nails are bad for your natural nails at all - as long as they are applied well & removed properly.
@Jazzie21569 they sell at most cvs/ walgreens this nail paint that makes a bitter taste and it "trains" you to stop. I honestly dont see what's so bad about glueing on fake nails, especially if they wont grow anyway (like in my case) but im also not a professional nail artist
@HeavenlyAngel2009 do you mean in the water or on the nail? It is definitely brown, you can check out more pics on my blog, but sometimes brown polishes do look purple with the first coat.
@KiaraMarissa It's not absolutely necessary, but I do recommend sticking with one brand if possible. They usually seem to work better together, and spread the same amount in the water =)
@SimpleLittlePleasues I like hearing you say your details every time! You're right, it is a better use of the dead air, plus you have a very calming speaking voice :)
@Glitt3rBu9 Isn't that a quick drying polish? I've read or heard (possibly from Colette??) that it's best to try to stay away from quick drying polishes when doing water marbling...but I don't know if they cause smudging so I am not sure if that is the problem. Just wanted to mention it in case :)

@Glitt3rBu9 do you mean smudged kind of like the polish got smeared & messy? Usually that is from too much polish, you want it to be just a thin skin on the water - I'd recommend using fewer drops of polish =)
i have short nails and when i put the design on my nails it get smudged and drips is that because i have short nails? HELP!!!!

@Glitt3rBu9 do you mean smudged kind of like the polish got smeared & messy? Usually that is from too much polish, you want it to be just a thin skin on the water - I'd recommend using fewer drops of polish =)
