  • If it isn't fool proof, then teams should be able to get around it.

  • NBC has a conflict of interest; they own the Flyers, and the Flyers were refusing to play the Lightning's game. They cannot be unbiased.

  • @AEMoreira81 Mike Millbury and Keith Jones dont own the Flyers, though. They say what they want. They do analysis for NBC, Vs, and the NHL Network, as well as local stations like NESN and FoxSports...

  • these guys are morons, if they knew anything about the game, they'd be in it. Guy Boucher is there because he knows how to coach a hockey team.

  • @compassfusions both Mike Millbury and Keith Jones WERE in the game.. and they know more about it than you ever will

  • Speed beats the trap... 93-94 Rangers were 6-0 vs the Devils and the trap.. during the season, then traded all their speed to get bums to win the cup. Took them 7 games to beat the devils then.. But when they had the speed, the trap could not keep up.. and it cost them goals.

  • ITS A TRAP!

  • How are you gonna tell a team they can't use a certain system! If you're stuck at 0-0 after 65 minutes, the NHL implemented the shootout to avoid ties, so I don't see what the problem is! If the NHL wants to use its precious shootout so much, they should be ENFORCING the use of this system. NHLfail.

  • i would never cheer for a team with a defensive system like that. never go to a fuckin boring game. save about $300. what are the attendance numbers in tampa?? lol umm chicago is 21,000 + on average. they try to score and score lots cuz its exciting. you want to excite the fans. they are the reason your on the ice.

  • Before NJ started using the trap the NHL was so exciting, talented players could excite the fans, now all hockey is about is standing around and making safe plays. I'm glad this issues is addressed because no one wants to watch boring hockey and who cares if Mike Milbury says this, some one has to, not many people want to watch this nonsense of sitting back.

  • I circled my screen on the pundit in the middle and said "And this guy up here is a charlatan."

  • Winners win, losers lose pediod

  • The 1-3-1 system is a cowardly system to employ 30 seconds into a hockey game, especially when you have some of the best offensive players in the game! Tampa plays for the extra point every night and would rather get close to playoffs by losing their way up the standings and taking advantage of a silly NHL point system. To me there is no difference between the 1-3-1 (all game) and that lazy overweight kid who had to slap the ball down the street while you go get it, because he couldn't keep up!!

  • @capemjs No Ohlund, no Hedman, no Malone...1-3-1 isn't used as a defensive system in Tampa. If it were, they'd have better GA numbers. It's used as a tool to create offense and that's it. To state otherwise is to show ignorance of the team. As someone that has watched every minute of Boucher's tenure in Tampa, they use the 1-3-1 <30% of the time. Your assessment of the 1-3-1 is so far off it demonstrates nothing but ignorance of the actual implementation of the system and the team that uses it.

  • @zeykshade Tampa has poor GA numbers because they have a weak defensive core and Roloson isn't getting any younger. Call it what you want, a "trap" or a "counter offensive system" (chuckles) they still clog up the neutral zone. Like I said, it's cowardly to play trap hockey in the opening 30 seconds of a period, really it's disgusting and shameful. This isn't a one off either or some saving grace as you put it. You think I'm ignorant? Then that must mean so is Lavs and a bulk of the NHL too.

  • @capemjs well, considering that Laviolette is 1-3-1 against the Boucher led Bolts, you could call him ignorant. Rather than find a way around it like other teams, he decided to whine about it. If anyone should be ashamed it's him. He'd rather make a point than devise a way around it. Pretty damn pathetic. Also, if you're siding with Milbury, you're implicitly wrong. The guy is never right. If he were, he'd still be leading the Islanders anywhere but into a flaming crater that they're still in.

  • @zeykshade Laviolette won the cup with an offensive system with the Canes, Tampa and the other teams15 of them are boring.

  • @semiautoriflelover1 Swept last season in the playoffs... 1-3-1 against Tampa since Boucher took over. Enough said. The one win was in a shootout, lol.

  • just shows how bad the sport of hockey is. It's like watching soccer on ice. Good luck getting a new TV deal. Unwatchable.

  • Fucking Americans! You/they are retarded.

This is SPORTS. Tactics is one of the main parts of the game ffs.

This is a very nice defense and the attacking team needs to find a way to get around this.

It's the same with Barcelona, should they be punished because they have the best teamplay in football?

Yes, they play football, you fucktards overseas play American Football.

  • @Got4borgar4n They did. Waiting out for the player to attack then moving the puck. Pre smart if you ask me :D

  • Fuck those who are embarrassed by this. I thought it was damn funny! Why so serious???

  • @thejimmylanz because no 1 wants to watch people stand on ice and that play is just cheap!!

  • @lolodo98

It's the Flyers and Lightning. They chose to play this way. If somebody doesn't like it then they'd have a better time routing for the Islanders or even the Panthers. I don't know why it's such a big deal. This doesn't happen all that often, so fuck all. I just thought it was hilarious.

  • Yeah, I wish my Bolts were exciting like the Canucks were in Games 3,4,6 and 7 of Finals! STFU whiners! See Friday's game vs. Hawks or comeback win Sun. vs. Panthers. I never felt bored Stamkos, St. Louis, or Lecavalier.

  • @stammerfan please. you know nothing about hockey and are clearly just a stupid bolts fan. just fuck off. gonna tell me keslers not exciting to watch? retard

  • From this day on, everyone will laugh at Tampa XD

  • So silly to complain about 1-3-1. L2p and break the system

  • @purpledodi except that the 1-3-1 defensive system has been proven, if implemented correctly, to be VERY effective. New Jersey won several cups largely due to this system, as well as Brodeur. The point is, no matter how entertaining, a system like this led to the "dead puck era" in the NHL in the late 90s, early 2000s, and is just BORING hockey! At the end of the day, it's a sport and has to be ENTERTAINING to make money...and this is NOT entertaining!

  • @Mattastic97 Up to the crowd to not buy tickets then to show their dislike. Not the other team

  • @purpledodi and tampa ticket sales are through the roof!

  • Alright, I am not at all a big hockey fan. I live in Sweden, so the only hockey I get to see is our own "elitserien" and when the crowns play national games. Though I must say, I am a HUGE sports fan. And I'd say, and this concerns any sport, that bottom line it's all about winning and getting those important points for the team. If you manage to do that, well hey there you have the entertainment. So if a team like tampa wants to play all defense, and the coach and team considers it good. Do it!

  • There will never be a rule that says a team can't play a certain way, and I don't agree that there should be. I am a Lightning fan, and I do pay my hard earned money to watch the game. HOWEVER, at the end of night all I truly care about is winning, even if that means we have something slow like it was the other night. If they make a rule it should be against staling and sitting with the puck, like in basketball, you only get a certain amount of time to move the ball up court, philly needed to

  • @tgshark1 attack

  • The trap is HORRIBLE. It almost RUINED the NHL when it became the prevalent style in the 90's. The most entertaining hockey to watch was was during the 80's when the emphasis was on scoring goals. Then in the mid 90's the emphasis switched to preventing goals, and out of that emphasis the BORING trap was born. The NHL should make a rule that encourages offense such as the trap CANNOT be employed in ANY form unless a team has at least a 3 goal lead. That would force teams to play offense.

  • press 4 for poo

  • Flyers likers always will find a way to excuse their losses. haha. Good teams beat this trap. But, honestly, if I was a in the stands with a lightning sweater on, i'd like seeing more action out there. Come on, with such a talented team out there you can play with more authority.

  • why the fuck should he be embarrassed, we is winning games, hockey is fun to watch, but the ultimate goal for the teams is to win. If they are winning doing this WHY THE FUCK CHANGE IT. Plus didn't they win the game.... what teams should do instead of bitching and complaining is find away around it

  • @33cowan95 Good luck getting any new fans by playing that way, sure winning is the goal but without fans the NHL is nothing.

  • @hockeyplaya0021 I completely agree, but if tampa is anything like toronto us fans stay loyal no matter what they are doing

  • I think the NHL should introduce the International ice rink size with a 4 on 4 gameplay, plus 5 periods of 12 minutes. Also they should introduce a bouncing puck and handball size nets.

  • Comcast owns the Flyers...Comcast and NBC Universal Merged...NBC Universal owns Versus now. What this broadcasting crew did was as bad as anything Faux News has ever done. Edzo calling, perennial Lady Byng nominee, Marty St. Louis a diver was 100% absurd.

The main thing they don't even acknowledge is that the Bolts don't play the 1-3-1 for defense. They play it to generate offense. Commenting about the system stifling skilled players? 99points for MSL, 90+ for Stamkos. MAB leading all D...

  • @zeykshade I thought so too... but tbh EVERYBODY is blaming Tampa for, not just the Comcast NBC syndicates. But I honestly agree as well, just no freaking way to make the offense move the puck in the rulebook. As the lightning have every right to play that trap, the flyers have every right to chill in the back ice and wait.

  • Teams consistently employ this system against the Red Wings. Sure it might not be 1-3-1 but it's 1-2-2. Still a trap. Yet every game that the Wings are in is interesting and somehow they deal with the trap and still win the game. C'mon Philly. Get some balls. Man up.

  • @poxer1212 A 1-2-2 leaves the center of the ice open for offense to generate. You can't move the puck against a 1-3-1 unless you're lucky enough to get it to center ice and send it down. That isn't a good strategy for an entire game.

  • It's like saying FC Barcelona should stop playing the way they do because it's "damaging soccer/football". Play the game FFS.

  • man to man doesn't work anymore, fucking IDIOTS.

always old rotten hockey players think man to man is what works. a lot of 1-2-2, 1-3-1, and 2-1-2 works, idiots idiots idiots. im a devils fan and the lightnings are smart.

  • VD never gives Tampa credit. They always root for the team against them. They say our 1-3-1 system doesn't work, who won? Who went to the semi finals?

  • "smarter guys n you and I"

More like more stupid guys n you and I. Like come on! This is a game. Not a entertainment. Sure it should be fun watching a hockey game but this is ridiculous. Changing the rules and shit? Because people doesn't get entertained?

This is why americans getting bashed for being stupid people.

  • Fuck Milbury... 1-3-1.... its a proven system...

only a tough, quick, strong hockey team can solve this and find a way to score.... obviously the Flyers were on the wrong page.

If Tampa wins with this style of play then the coach has earned his paycheck.

  • Freaking Mike Milbury stated his reason for "liking" hockey when he said "that's just not enertainment." If he's looking for "entertainment" all the time go to somewhere else. please

  • Stop asking for rule changes you moron Milbury. Let the teams play the game how they want. I love how he is stating that TB was 21st in defence last year as if that nugget is supporting his point. That stat shows right there that teams aren't gaining some enormously unfair advantage by playing this way. As far as Tampa is concerned, they are a better team by doing this compared to when they aren't doing this.

  • punish my effing ass!!! they are a genius

  • The team with the puck has to make an attempt on the goal no? Otherwise its passive play: so genius move by Tampa Bay and lame that Philadelphia weren´t punished for their passivity.

  • Their logic is flawed...TBL won did they not? Yeah, so shut the fuck up. We're here to win, not to loose, ANY good coach would do the same.

  • the lightning aren't there to entertain people they are there to win a hockey game
