I've benn to Samarkand and it was on a trip through the silk route ie Boukara , Samarkand with a thre week pit stop in Iran Rasht , teheran , Esphahan ( badly spelt , then persepolis etc. as Iam an artist I need at the time to blow my mind and God it got blown in Samakand; the colours , the clothes , the culture ! I've been lucky to be able to travel widly , reccently Brasil 26 times. as I live in sao paulo six months of the year since 1991 ..Not so reccently ! Culture is over there!

Oh by the way the other six months are spent in Paris. Eh oui. Just to say i found the Uzbeks really friendly , and the women have those eyes , like in Iran , due to the ancient persian Empire. The culture and intricate details , the clothes especially traditional ones , the dances etc changed me for life. Made me realise what an uncult background I came from. Travel people , find out these places and it will open your minds for good.

I was born there. Samarkand lies in the Valley of Zarafshan. It is surrounded by 4 mountain chains Urgut mountains, Ohalik mountain, Mironkul and Aman-kutan. River of Zarafshan passes though Samarkand. It is positioned 500miters above see level.

Tajikiston is not Turkic, But rest of Central Asia is Turkic and is called Turkistan, The land of Turks ( not the land of the Turkish but the land of Turkics). Why is it so difficult to face this fact? Turkmens Uyghurs Uzbeks Kazakhs and Kyrgyzes Tatars and Bashqorts are proud Turks. That's it. Turks ( in Turkey) and Azerbaijanis are also considered Turks because that have been long Turkified and Turkicized to some extent by people from Turkistan.

Wrong! First Sogdians, An Iranic people. Then Turks, Later Samanid rule ( during which remaining Sogdians who had not been Turkicized yet switched to Persian). There have been no Persians in Central Asia for almost 4000 years after they left for south. Persophiles in Bukhara and Samarqand are just some Farsi speaking Sogdians and Turks who switched to Persian because it is the main languages of those cities.

Panturkish? Not Panturkish but Panturkic, Because Turkish people are Turkic but Turkic peoples are not Turkish. Turkish refers to Rep. of Turkey n anything peculiar to it. Turkish is Turkic but Turkic isn't Turkish. It is a matter of nationality nothing more. Turkish or Turkic all are Turks. What's wrong with being Panturkic? We are a nation divided by invasions and occupations. It is very normal to want unification. It is our business not yours. If we Turks want it, we'll do it.
