  • How can one speak with a whistle?

  • I love Lead Belly and appreciate the space he occupied during his lifetime . Why say anything else?

  • I didnt post this. Someone hacked my account. Wtf! I dont talk like that and am a better writer too.

  • ...btw, leadbelly is awesome. LEGENDS NEVER DIE.

  • YOU ALL FUCKING SUCK...first page of comments is bullshit. OBVIOUSLY you all are fucking assholes. suck a dick

  • One day, I will be prime minister, and there WILL be a law meaning adverts for 'Poptastic', some shitty trashy girl band album, will NOT be played before anything good... Leadbelly is good.

  • nic

  • the kkk dont even like the whites

  • quit with the racist **** but i will say most niggers are big mouthed (cocky, false cofidence that stuff)

  • @TheBufftanner

You can't bring yourself to post the word shit, so you post **** but you are happy to post the word nigger ?

    Twat.

  • @boojum420 ******< happy now?

  • @TheBufftanner That's the biggest BULLSHIT I've ever heard!!! Man is your brain down your ass?? Or do you just don't know what you're talking about. Seems like YOU are big mouthed, cocky false and confident. Man you're a hypocrit!

  • @wernerkonings for the record my brain is not down my ass(however that works)

but honestly i think someone who lives around blacks his whole life would know at tleaste a small bit about blacks dont you think

  • @TheBufftanner Well, there live 8 blacks next to my house and they all are good guys! What you're saying makes no point, there are also white guys who misbehave, maybe even more.. There are Turkish ppl who misbehave, ppl from Morocco who misbehave, Dutch ppl who misbehave, German ppl who misbehave and so on... So you living around negro's who misbehave doesn't say anything about the black race... Be reasonable man...

  • Just great, trust Huddie to show us how.

  • You best be gettin' back to them cotton fields, boy! Your 5 minutes for lunch time is over! Don't make me give you no lashin's now, boy! You keep up that attitude, I ain't givin' you no chitlins tonight!

  • @sweet96635 yep your sorry white ass is sour from sucking all that baptist dick. Switch over to some nice methodist. Ya dumb white trash. dis honky puts trash like you in piney woods right regularly.

  • @GrigoriZhukov You callin' me a honky, monkey-boy? You best watch that mouth of yours, boy, before I whip the disobedience outta ya's! And ya best be pickin' that cotton at double speed tomorra for punishment! Boy howdy I put you right back in yo place, boy, which is right under the white man!

  • @sweet96635 yeah whity I'm calling you a little queer ass little boy screwin' faggot. White trash belongs in one place...a dumbster. 'cause little fruits like you aren't good enough to compost. 8^) Haven't met a single person like you that face to face that will stand, y'all back your spineless pedarast selves down. Only stomach you got is that 400# of lard hanging over your belt.

  • @GrigoriZhukov The reason us righteous whites don't confront you negroes in person and say stuff like that is because all of you people like to commit heinous crimes like robbery and murder without provocation. You people are not fucking civilized. That's the reason us White people don't confront you like that. That's about as smart as a White person walking up to some African village to try and educate the people. Some spear chucker's gonna kill 'em. That's a guarantee.

  • @sweet96635 You know something nigger...you assume a shit load and presume even more. You poor poor ill bred nigger. You just don't get it do you nigger? A nigger is anyone who thinks they deserve to have everything given to them and they don't have to do a thing. That's why you and others like you are the NIGGERS. Me I'm just some white dude in oklahoma kicking klan members into the icu and dissappering nazi's. Piss off nigger...you're giving those politicians a bad name.

  • @GrigoriZhukov So you're a white guy in Oklahoma and you are against White people who are against negroes? You're a disgrace to your race, trashboy. The modern Klu Klux Klan practice law-abiding behavior and their freedom of speech. Go ahead and compare Christianity to the KKK. Who's got the bloodiest, most intolerant past of the two?

  • @sweet96635 anything kkk is not law abiding. and freedom of speech my ass, kkk is racist towards black with their threats and shit. and also KKK is worse than christianity.

  • @Cewldude93 How is the KKK worse than Christianity? The KKK does not lynch anyone anymore or do any illegal acts. They are all about politics. There are KKK politicians. They are about preserving our White Christian Nation and advancing White people in society. Pretty much everything you said is false, and is made from common assumptions. Do your research.

  • @sweet96635 thats the most racist stereotyping shit ive ever heard. maybe a black guy should go to one of your kkk meetings and educate your dumbass on how to be a fucking human.

  • @sweet96635 hey honky white racist boy, im a non racist white man and you get your ass back into place in the non racist 21st century you dumbass. and white boys are useless against black "boys" so watch your ass, literaly. those "boys" are more of a man than you'll ever be. so go back to your gay ass kkk meetings. AND SERIOUSLY: doesnt anyone else notice that the KKK is full of guys? im sorry but id much rather have a group with girls. js.

  • @Cewldude93 Once again I see assumptions being made. There are female KKK members. In fact, one of them co-hosts a weekly television series for the Ku Klux Klan streaming on the internet.

  • @sweet96635

Just shows that women can be as painfully stupid and completely worthless as human beings as any man.

  • @boojum420 I'm a guy wtf

  • man why cant ppl make music like this any more what happend where did it go this shit has a beggining middle end with a moral too we just dont have story tellers like we use to

  • Lead Belly is a murderer. He murderer a man in 1918 because of his jealousy over a woman, and he got 7 years in prison. He's been in prison for at least three long stretches. This man is what we refer to as a "nigger", boys and girls.

  • @sweet96635 looks like you know how to read wikipedia. We get it, you're mad at your dad not at the internet. Keep the racism to yourself and find something productive to take part in.

  • @sweet96635 Sounds like you gots some issues boy....I can tell by your tone.

  • @GrigoriZhukov Don't call me boy, boy. I am your master and you are my slave. You best be gettin' back to them cotton fields, boy! Your 5 minutes for lunch time is over! Don't make me give you no lashin's now, boy! You keep up that attitude, I ain't givin' you no chitlins tonight!

  • Old blues..Great stuff! With a bit o blue grass! They were all being true in dem daze!

  • Ive just eaten a Pot Noodle, and i cant for the life of me figure out why.

  • Lead Belly was an undercover FBI agent for many yrs who poised as an ex-con rom the chain gang. He was actually a grad of New York U where he went on a football scholarship in the 1920s. He produced many pages of info on Red spies.

  • @BrokenneckYgor No. Huddie Leadbetter was one of the first to experiment with nuclear fission, working in collaboration with the Curies. When he ingested an ounce of radium and didn't even belch, they started calling him Leadbelly.

He was also a Mormon, and had one of those Mormon vids on YouTube where you're an ex-football player with ten wives and trying to convert everyone & be an annoying Mormon video asshole.

  • @BrokenneckYgor I heard Leadbelly saved Private Ryan. All of them.

  • This man is legend.

  • Lead Belly was an American Folk Singer not a Blues artist

  • @EddieClouds You do know it's possible to be both, don't you?

  • @EddieClouds i believe he was the birth of blues but he is a little more folkish

  • im 5 years old and all i play on my guitar is these old blues songs

  • is pig iron slaves?

  • @zodiac09 from what i understand its just iron ore, which would weigh more than just livestock, so he beat the toll man!

  • @zodiac09 Slot machines

  • 4 people is some Yellow Bellies

  • the blues is like The Rock Island line, a mighty good road ,you gotta ride it like you find it

  • TV was showing the Omen 2, and there's a bit where the damien kid kills someone by crashing a train with "Rock Island" written on the side

    ...no one cares sorry

  • Did Lead Belly write every song that doesn't suck?

  • @veryhonestman as it happens, I know of one that's usually attributed to a certain convict by the name of Kelly Pace...

  • Johnny cash had the best version of this song, but they are ALL good.

  • @road6customs no lead did himself... it's jus not on youtube, it's probably the first blues piece i ever heard

  • I GOT PIG IRON I GOT PIG IRON I FOOLED YOU

  • DAVES FAVES :: I got all live stock!

  • Leadbelly is an underrated folk/blues guitarist. Its the proper old style, it has a certain feel to it which lets you know its being played by a human being, not some damn machine

  • Classic Song! Leadbelly is a Beast!

  • @lamuir28

fucking you are a fucking idiot

  • Ahem... actually "Rock, and roll", was invented by a Norwegian immigrant by the name of Pete 'Hamfly' Thompson. He was best known for his song, "My one leg'll kick yer two legged ass" in which he described how just because he lost a leg to Scandanavian swine herpes in his teens, don't mean he cant beat the hell outta ya with the wooden leg he's got. He died in prison in 1921 where he was jailed for killing a man with said leg.

:) Who cares who 'invented' rock. Lead Belly lived Metal. Kick ass

  • @memantiga I agree with you.50's rock n roll was just a hybrid fusion music that belonged to Americans

  • Rock and Roll was invented by Ching Kai-cheq about 2000 yrs ago in Hunan, China. It was in tended as "Earthquake music", hence the popular name, R and R. Other scholars contend that a Black slave called "Heavenly Hymie" sang R and R while cleaning stables in the Mississippi Delta. Still another aurthority, the celebrated Lou Negre, half-brother of Malcolm X, said Guy Lombardo deserves credit for his history-making (th noeargely forgotten) number "Hey Mamm,a, the Ice Hole's Closin') 1949.

  • Up the road from where i live theres a chip shop run by some greeks, quarter chicken and large cod with chips for 6 quid and i tell you what - it was bloody lovely

  • You will never hear music this good on MTV CMT or VH1. Music has went to shit .

  • probably because everyone just sits around complaining how music has gone to shit

  • clearly you're the expert

  • @trunks961 i checked your channel out, obviously your the expert. Its just that we have different tastes in music, and your a fucking queer. Yoko ono?

  • @trunks961 I checked out your channel. We just have different tastes in music, and your a fucking queer. Yoko ono?

  • youre a smart genius observer

  • @JacYodac you queers always wanna argue. i dont get into the whole pillow fight thing, sorry

  • Absolutely fantastic! How lucky are we to have the privilege of listening to this masterpiece all these years later?

  • only 30 seconds into this. But i likes it already c:

  • Great song made better with Leadbelly's style, and accurate with how the switchboards and whistle signaling worked; something that Cash's version overlooked.

  • The beauty of folk music is the knowledge it contains

  • A fantastic version of a fantastic song. ;)

  • marvellous

  • I meant to type...."didn't quite make it"......

  • Lonnie Donegan tried to immitate Lead Belly's style, but did quite make it in my opinion....He was good, but just not Lead Belly.....

  • "Lonnie Donegan tried to immitate Lead Belly's style" ... ??? er, No. Just because he admired Lead Belly and sang his songs doesnt mean he was imitating Lead Belly.

Donegan very much had his own style.

Just as Johnnie Cash had his own style.

    And Lead Belly had his.

You'd have to be a total dill to try to "imitate" Lead Belly.

  • well lonnie pretty much invented rock and roll with his version and made leadbelly more listened to.

if lonnie had not done a cover of this, i doubt anyone would be watching this on youtube today

  • 26highstreet,

Lonnie Donegan didn't invent rock 'n' roll. It's almost impossible to say who "invented" rock 'n' roll because it didn't just magically appear out of nowhere all of a sudden in some finished, perfected form. It's something that gradually came to be that was created by a number of different musicians working independently. If anything, Lonnie Donegan turned the English people on to folk and skiffle music and inspired people like John Lennon and Jimmy Page to form bands.

  • i didnt read it all....ur comment.....but music is magic.

  • i like the all acoustic version better, this piano makes the song sound Vaudeville-esque.

  • i just like me some leadbelly, can we agree on that?

  • Chris Thomas King does a really good version of this song. Closest I ever heard to capturing the spirit of the original

  • Good God. What a performance. Just like that. Makes you think much more about roots of rock 'n' roll.

  • Good song. The Weavers do a good version too.

  • Wow, Johnny Cash's version is terrible compared to this... do not reccomend!

  • They are both good. I love them both...two different interpretations and styles. There is an authenticity here that Johnny's lacks though. I am definitely going to have to hear more Leadbelly music...excellent

  • this is fukin awsome his voice is amazin the way he sings the word ride in the first line, rahide genious

  • you know i am 18 and just learing to play guitar..i dont see how the blues is fadeing..i love this style and prefer it to the the other styles with the guitar and rock..this playing has feeling like soul cant wait to start working on my blues playing..

  • smart kid, keep it up

  • bro, blues and other true arts are fadeing because people have a "naked ear" for music, and are "blind" to real art. they're awake, but oh so asleep my friend.

  • Well obviously whatever you consider to be real art automatically is, and that excludes anything else from being real art. What is "real" art anyway?

Funny but I always thought artistic value was a completely subjective measure derived from interaction between the audience and/or artist's interpretation of the subject. No?

  • hey guy, do you understand what i'm saying? Art comes from the heart. not some guy in a suit that works at a big record label"paying" someone to "sing&dance"that last person sing from there soul not singing soul music is damn near alicia keys

  • and listen to angel baby by rosie and the originals. that girl sang her little heart out. or Work me lord(at woodstock live)by janis joplin. try blind lemon jefferson or texas alexander. ever heard of mac dre(he was dubbed the hardest artist, like picasso the painter)true art you will know. whether it's a painting, play, sculpture, music tune. you'll know it. cuz people that know it around you, will show it. anyways i'm going to hit these purps, and be creative.

  • I listen to every artist you mentioned. Your post is entirely irrelevant. "True Art" is whatever the audience defines it as. To me, maybe Opera is true art, while to you it's a movie. The point is that you can't define a universal criterion for art, because art doesn't exist on a universal level, being entirely subjective.

It's more likely to be considered good art by lots of people if it's from the heart, but even if it isn't, it's art regardless.

  • Never truer word spoken matey!!!

  • @jreese66 there is no blues playing ;)

  • @jreese66 Your young so yo will do well. Jut stick with it. Im a little older than you and just began guitar a year ago, but will be solely focusing on Blues soon. Good luck and help keep the Blues alive!

  • @jreese66 Keep on playin boy! You headed in the right direction.

  • @jreese66 the blues/bluegrass needs to stay alive, its up to young people like me n you to keep it alive, good comment bro

  • @jreese66 George Harrison first song he liked at the age of 13 . ck out Lonnie Donegan music

Best to you May your strings allways be tight

  • @JEMCO2008 May you have a strong foundation, when the winds of changes shift.

  • @jreese66 Cuz there ain't no big money in it for the money boys! I'm 61, play bass and play this because I love it. It's where we got the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. Listen to Howlin' Wolf's "How Many More Years". Elmore James "I Done Somebody Wrong". Sonny Boy Williamson "Ain't Fattenin' No Mo' Frogs for Snakes". Listen to Doyle Bramhall II on here at the Crossroads playing "Outside Woman Blues".

  • @jreese66 um, this isnt really blues. most of leadbelly's music wasn't blues. this one definitely isnt.

  • the grand father of folk&blues,,,,yeh baby, feel good

  • Ah that makes me feel good inside.

  • Great post. Thanks

  • this is such a tuuuuuune!

  • Leadbelly singing Rock Island Line is a classic. It doesn"t get any better than this.

  • He is in heaven.........or soon will be.

  • thanks for posting amigo

  • the man was in prison, ever hear"midnight special"

  • could be only exists in your mind?

  • If someone could post up Mother's blues "Little Children Blues" I'd be forever grateful. I can't seem to find that song anywhere.

  • how can some1 say thats not Lead Belly stupid idiots .......... Lead Belly, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain RIP

  • I like his earlier version better

  • I find this songs funny :D

    good!

  • His earlier recording of this song is much more impressive, to be honest.

  • Agreed, he's much better by himself, or with sonny terry and brownie mcghee with him.

  • that would be pete seeger on the banjo with him

  • that would be pete seeger on the banjo with him

  • haha are you idiots? that sounds EXACTLY Like leadbelly did

JUST the same as on every album and cd i have ever heard

  • They are definatly morons. There is only ONE LEADBELLY and this is him at his best. People should be greatful that such good qualities of his songs are availible !!!!!

  • This doesn't sound like Lead Belly to me either. Accent and phrasing are not what I remember.

  • It sounds like an impersinator to me. The voice lacks resonance and power. The guitar sound is pitiful.

  • You're a fuckin idiot. If you've ever heard a freight train go by you'll recognise the myriad clanking sounds it makes. Leadbelly's genius was in representing that musically.

  • dude i know exactly what you're talking about that is the EXACT reason i'm listening to it now

  • this song has been in my head for weeks and no one ever knows what it is. I adore this song.

  • His earlier recording of this song is much more impressive, to be honest.

  • It's a mighty fine road

and it's a mighty fine song too !

  • Awesome song no matter who's doin' it!

  • GO HUDDIE!!!

  • triple murderer screwed up guy but awesome lyricist

  • He was arested for manslaughter, atemted murder and assalt, not tripple murder
