  • I am an atheist, I love this music for the music.

  • @TheMarsVo1ta OH MY GOSH! My douce-o'-meters running wild, and I think it's because of you!!! Seriously, you're on the internet. If you can't play nice, then gtfo.

  • Da song isuh clear tuh me now da turtle is aboud Jesus Fucking Christ. i SEE da lite!!! DA LITE is clear tuh me now its all about dem Jebuses. WIDOUT GAWD WE BE NOWER!! PRAY I GED SUMODAT JEBUS ASS I LUV ME SOME JEBUSES.

That's how much sense you retarded Christians just made.

Literally, go fuck yourselves deluded psycopaths

  • @TheMarsVo1ta

Psychopaths are devoid of emotion or have very little emotion. I believe Psychotic is what you meant. Yeah, I know it's confusing. Anyway, there's no reason to be bashing Christians because of what some people think this song means.

  • @TheMarsVo1ta That wasn't very nice!

  • @TheMarsVo1ta If a religion keeps one within a set of morals that will make others existence higher in quality, then it makes more sense than whatever you're doing because you just aim at making other peoples lives worse. I'm not saying I follow any specific religion, but I definitely lack respect for someone who aims at making other people experiences of this life worse.

  • @TheMarsVo1ta Look I know it's hard to understand these songs. And they're not for everyone. keep listening to The Mars Volta [they rock!]

  • @TheMarsVo1ta Jesus still loves you and theres nothing you can do about it

  • Thanks for posting. I found my current favorite song. :-)

  • Does anyone think this song somewhat suggest Taoism? "knowing well that those that know don't talk and those that talk don't know" Also the water analogy speaking of going with nature. I really wish I could fully get what they were saying in some of their songs.

  • @Michaelgoround Aaron is very studied and open to various forms of 'enlightenment' almost the the point of being a universalist, not quite, but i wouldn't doubt for a second the reference to Taoism.

  • Also, my grandmother was in a wheelchair most of her life.

    :)

  • When my grandmother died, my niece was born that same week. Even though we were all sad about my grandmother dying, we were happy cause it was like we got a replacement. I remember hearing this song around that same time. The tortoise reminded me of my grandmother, old. And the hummingbird of the baby, new and full of possibilities. idk. That's just my interpretation.

  • 0 dislikes

    just how it should be

  • @grantingballer 1 dislike. I guess 1 person has REALLY bad aim or a glitchy mouse? cause this song is too beautiful to hate.

  • Come, Tortoise, standing still, go, Hummingbird, my will. Come, Tortoise, stumbling blind, go, Hummingbird, my eyes. Come, Tortoise, empty hand, go, Hummingbird, my plan. Come, Tortoise, undefined, go, Hummingbird, my mind. Come, Tortoise, letting go, go, Hummingbird, I know. Come, Tortoise, come and die, go, Hummingbird, my 'I'. Goodbye, I!

  • "Knowing well that those who know don't talk..." They don't talk; they sing.

  • So I started to listen to these guys and I got better at rhyming :)

  • When they talk about the farmer, it shows God taking things away in our lives, stuff we have come to love, but are in the way of His way. So he takes them, and even if we don't approve, we have to sing, because he is our God, and the ONLY God. And the stuff about the hummingbird is how he works so hard, yet he gets nothing. And the tortoise just sits there and does nothing as he doesn't want to offend anyone. Its apparent in the bridge.

  • @oregonmilitiaman No, I think the tortise is more of a letting go and letting God control rather than not doing anything.

  • oh my freakin crap those lyrics are amazing

  • I'm a godless heathen, love mewithoutyou

  • Never once have I considered myself religious in an form. Cant stand the thing, it has torn my family to pieces beacuse it allows for people to interpret it in anyway they'd like then use it as a some kind of reasoning for everything they do, good or bad. The entire idea of God, and all the different religions around the world still seems to fascinate me like nothing else. This band is fucking amazing though, and if its God that inspire them to make such good music, then so be it.

  • I worship the devil and I love this song

  • nothing makes as much sense as god.

  • Montreal, here.

Adore mewithoutYou and also love Faunts and Frames. All great bands which get little to know recognition.

Hey, anyone understand why it goes from the farmer to the hummingbird/tortoise?

My idea on "those that know don't talk, and those that talk don't know." I think they're talking about God, religion, AND of love in general. Any thoughts anyone? :)

    - Reeve

  • @Reeve9207 it's just common sense to me

  • I love the name of this song. The song is great too.

  • if ned flanders ever wrote a song, it would sound like this

  • come tortoise standing still

    go hummingbird, my will

  • Such great symbolism here! The Hummingbird strives so hard but doesn't go anywhere; the tortoise just sits and gets moved. We can strive all we want, but without God we aren't going to go anywhere. So beautiful...

  • likes this comment :P

  • @byergler06 i don't see how that is a metaphor for god helping us, maybe i haven't read the lyrics but i think ur symbolism is a little off

  • heh this song seems to have much more truth to it than what can be seen at first glance *shrugs*

  • there's a movement in our stillness and however much we move, we're bound to stand completely still!

  • My love for this song is becoming quite absurd. In the best way possible though (:

  • I love this.. kinda reminds me of Might be Giants but different

  • thanks so much man this is just what i was looking for
